Brazilian trialist won't be signing for Sky Blues

ANDY Thorn is looking for fresh options up front after deciding not to offer a deal to Bruno Cazarine.
The globe-trotting Brazilian, who has played for a dozen clubs in eight countries since 2002, was given a final chance to impress during Saturday's 4-1 victory at Accrington Stanley.

But he was replaced by on-loan Callum Ball for the second half and Thorn later confirmed that he will be pursuing other options.

“We've had a good look at Bruno and he did some great things in training,“ said the Sky Blues boss, “but it didn't really work out in the matches he played and we've got to be convinced before we start handing out contracts.

“I've got another boy coming in on Monday who looks promising so we'll see where that takes us.“

Thorn is hopeful that midfielder Adam Barton will be a fully signed-up Sky Blue sooner rather than later, City having agreed a nominal fee with Preston after freeing up some cash with Gary Deegan's transfer to Hibernian. “I don't really want to talk about it until it's over the line,“ he said, “but Adam's a player I really like. He's tall, he's athletic and he can play and I'm sure he would be a great asset.“

Deegan's departure wa confirmed on Saturday morning and although the 24-yearold Dubliner couldn't face Dundee United yesterday he is in line for a high-profile debut in Sunday's Edinburgh derby against Hearts. Accrington Stanley

We've got a number of players who have done great things in training but don't really work out in matches haven't we?

At least we are being choosy and not just throwing contracts at the first person that comes along. The one thing we know is that Thorn has a decent eye for a player and for that reason I'm sure he's called it right.

Think most of us were a bit concerned with this Cazarine to be honest after hearing about him and checking him out.

Let's hope this new trialist is more to our liking.

The dawning of a new era. Players have to turn up on matchdays now.

Thorn has not got a good a eye for a player why do people think that?he has been the reason for the likes of kevin kyle, freddie eastwood, clingan, mcindoe, deegan, mcpake, murphy, bell(end),mcdonald, baker the list goes on of players who have been bought in and been gash for city.he is a poor judge of a player i think and wasted alot of citys money on players and paying for his wasted trips around the globe.and remember he said hed done his homework on cazarine and he was what we were looking for.guess what hes obviously not as no contract.what homework does he do by the way.

To be fair to Thorn, Eastwood is a very talented footballer, albeit with a problem upstairs in his head. Clingan had very good pedigree, but he was just very average for us. McIndoe had been a good player elsewhere. Deegan was a gamble but didn't cost us much at all, McPake is a good player just injury prone and McDonald hasn't really had much of a chance to prove himself yet.

Baker has done okay for me, though he does blow a little hot and cold.

The one I will I will agree with you on is David Bell, who manager after manager keep saying what a great player he is, yet in 3 and a half years we have probably only got about a dozen decent performances out of him.

Think one of Thorn's strengths is his eye for players.

Keiron Westwood, Aron Gunnarsson, Scott Dann, Danny Fox etc..

To be fair we dont really know who he brought in and who he didnt do we?

Or is it that he brought the good players in but the bad ones the manager did?

To be fair I think most the ones quoted would have been managers choices as they were championship players. The lesser known players like Deegan, Gunnar, Mifsud are more likely to have been scout recommendations.

To be fair, we have had hardly ANY players who set the world alight in the past few years.

Westwood was excellent, Norwood was decent, Gunnar was good for a while, after that I'm struggling to think of anyone who remained fit & consistent for any period of time.

However remember we are now looking for division three players who can perform in division two. So not exactly top notch...

He wasn't even here when we signed Dann & Fox. Gunnarsson was not scouted by Thorn either.

I am sure he was the main reason we signed up Dion Dublin & Darren Huckerby though.

Kevin Kyle was signed by Adams way before thorn came to the club.

Emile Heskey is rumored to be the mystery trialist after not agreeing a deal with Blackpool and Finishing training with them.

Interesting he didn't mention Jennings. Maybe it's to keep it under wraps while he recovers ( not realise he was spotted at the game )

No way we will sign Heskey. These rumours are just silly now.
It's been a running joke about him joining for weeks. He won't play for £3k a week!!!

It doesnt help with who the player is, but it may rule out who it isnt. A friend of mine (taxi driver) has just told me that a friend of his is collecting a football player from Birmingham Airport today for a trial at City. So unless hesky has been on holiday and is going straight from holiday to a trial then its not him.

Yeah yeah, cos we all tell taxi drivers what we're doing when booking them to pick us up.

"oh hi, is that Allens? Yes I'd like a cab into town please. Got to get my nephews birthday present and pick up some more contact lenses"

Thorn came here in the Summer of 2008. Dann and Fox came to the club 6 months earlier when Dowie and Flowers were here. Some of the straw clutching on here is hilarious.

Am waiting for someone to suggest he scouted Robbie Keane.
