He's right there are still three weeks till the beginning of the season, so no need to panic yet.

We need 2 really. Freddy, despite looking sharp so far in pre-season, has always flattered to deceive and Platt/O'Donovan are not the required standard.
I'd like to see us sign a pacey striker and a strong target-man, not so we can just hoof it (we are all tired of that), but so we can use it if needed and we always have someone who can hold the ball and bring people into play (ala Dion Dublin).

be good to see what AT can do with o'donovan though, maybe a goal poacher is what we need. If juke keeps rattling the woodwork we need someone on hand to slide em in.

I am not with all of the Eastwood is shite stuff.

I think if he gets mega fit in pre season and Thorn gives him a mega kick up the arse he might do well. After all in the last couple of seasons when he has had a 3 or 4 game run he has always scored for us so if Thorn can get the effort back and stop him from being lazy and use his talent he might be an asset.

I reckon this time next season we will be cursing the clubs decision not to extend FE's contract now. I really believe he will come good under Thorny.

For the record, I don't think Freddy is shite either. I just don't think he will ever be a consistent goalscorer at this level. There is no doubting that he does have some ability, it's just getting that out of him. Hopefully Thorny will finally be the one to make Freddy believe in his ability and show us what he's all about.

It's four weeks actually, but hey, it's still not a lot of time! :thinking about:

The whole Eastwood thing is virtually the same as morrel. when he is played as an out and out striker he scores goals, but for whatever reason he is played out wide more often than not.
We always seem to be asking players to play in roles that are not there favoured postion.

We need a striker? Really?

On Eastwood he has talent but he's been here for over 100 games now and his goals return is piss poor, so you wonder when exactly he is going to actually start scoring goals. He will have spells here and there where he scores 4-5 together and then will not score for several, drop out of the team, come in on a few sub and starting appearances, that could be 25-30 games later with Freddy.

If he can't do it in our team this season under Thorn then his time is up.

Eastwood is shite. If we're stuck with him he will score no more than 8 league goals by Christmas and will be gone in January.

I'll wager with any of you for as much as you like that he won't get more than that and I'll even throw in the option for free that I'll double your investment if he goes on to score 20 or more in the seaon (at Championship level)

Rob, if any of our strikers have 8 goals by christmas will that be such a bad thing as long as other players are scoring too?? 8 by Christmas (approx half a season) should result in that player gettin to double figures for the season and its not often we get to see that!!! Especially from Eastwood!!

I don't think he'll score 5 mate, it was just a challenge to all those who suddenly believe he will find form at this level that he has never shown previously to put their money where their mouth is.

Tbh I would love him to score 16 in a season and prove me wrong but that aint gonna happen.

My thoughts on this... We currently have

Platt
O Donovan
Eastwood
Juke
MacSheffrey

I doubt any of these will leave before start of the season, does anyone else think we are not going to add anyone? I dont think we will and I think Thorn knows it.

If I was Manager and I am an excellent one (4 x Premier league winner, 2 Champions league plus countless domestic trophies on Football Manager :D) I would be coming out and saying that the boys we have will step up and doe the business,

If you are Freddy your not going to be motivated by the boss constantly saying we need a new frontman...

to be fair to freddy when he does go on these scoring runs he gets dropped for no reason

i remember coleman did it, and i think booth did too early last year

im firmly in the "yes he can" camp regarding freddy

p.s 8 goals by xmass? any of our strikers do that and ill be happy

Eastwood has talent - of that there is no doubt - what he lacks is aptitude and attitude. He is lazy, disappears for whole games and whilst his record at Southend was brilliant he has done nothing at Wolves in 2 seasons and nothing here in 3. A succession of managers have tried to light a fire under his arse but nothing has worked. He did have one good spell here but that was 6 weeks out of 100. I hope AT can be the one who unlocks the enigma but I fear Eastwood will go the way of a lot of talented yet lazy players and disappear slowly into obscurity with nothing to show for a career except a healthy bank balance. He is in danger of being another Lee Trundle.

Couldn't agree more. He started last season with the juke and did very well

Last season Eastwood and Juke started the season off really well before Marlon King turned up. He is a talented footballer, the question is can he do it over a season and not just in the first few games - my other concern is that while other players improved under Thorn last season I thought Eastwood probably got slightly worse if I'm honest.

Still it's his last season with CCFC and that normally means they will start bursting the net with goals and then leave (Leon Best)

New season, new manager (again :p), new start for everyone as far as I'm concerned.
