signed for them on a perm deal...

I liked the lad & got potential but had to laugh at this in the press release "Not only is Thomas adept at finishing..." err , he worried defences with his runs but the one thing he was not, was adept at finishing!

Good luck to him, was always a threat, even if he was having a bad game his pace caused teams all sorts of problems. When he sorts out his finishing I think he will score a hatful of goals!

Surprised Derby let him go on a permanent.

If he sorts out his finishing will be a top player

Still believe if he was played on the left to shoot across keepers he would have scored more, good player though

His best finish of the season was against Barnsley so they're probably basing it on that!

If Derby think that much of him, they wouldn't have sold him to one of their competitors for next season, unless there is a clause in there that says he has to be loaned out. So maybe they don't rate him!

£1.2M for a forward who couldn't finish his dinner. Good luck to him but he's nowhere near good enough to play in the Championship.

Not having that. With his work rate and on the pitch attitude he will do just fine in the Championship, and Barnsley who are likely to have to scrap for points will be glad (and lucky) to have him.

Why are you 'not having that'? His finishing and overall final product was appalling last season - he arguably cost us points against Burton, Portsmouth and others due to his lack of ability in the final third. If he's struggling with his final product in League One how do you think he'll fare in the Championship against better defenders and better goalkeepers?

I'd agree he has a solid work rate and attitude but sometimes that isn't enough I'm afraid

Come on then Grendal give me your words of wisdom or do you not have an intellectual response? I know you usually struggle in that department.

For a start he is 19 and this was his first season of full time professional football

In the first half of the season he was by some distance the most effective forward in the squad

He has a high work rate for a player of his type which is an essential requirement the higher up the leagues you go.

His pace is a major attribute - it allows him to take defenders with him and free up space for other forwards

In short he’s a fine attribute with significant potential which is why someone paid over a million pounds for him

    For starters he's 20.

I've not said he's a bad player. I've said he's nowhere near Championship material. That doesn't mean he won't be in the future as he's still young. I know Derby are struggling on the financial front but surely if they rated him so highly or he such significant potential they wouldn't have accepted a bid off a Championship rival. So the question remains why sell him?

You haven't touched on his final product at all so I reiterate what basis do you have on calling me clueless? All you've pointed out is his physical attributes. Does that mean he'll become established in the Championship next season or even the season after? No it doesn't because he still has a lot to learn technically. Given Barnsley's investment it's clear he'll play a significant part of their campaign next season. If you don't think he'll struggle that's fine, I'm not five so it doesn't bother me if people have a different opinion to me, but given he struggled significantly during the second half of the season at League One I'd hedge my bets he won't be setting the world alight in a higher division next year.

He's definitely young, but I think that's the only bit I agree with.

£1.2M for a Championship club is peanuts in today's market, it's probably worth the risk.

Perhaps for a top 6 club but for the likes of Barnsley. That's still a pretty significant sum for a team in the bottom half of the table. Look at last summers spend from the likes of Sheff W, Wigan, QPR, Millwall etc. It's a pretty sizeable investment considering.

The fact that we've heard NOTHING about a winger coming in makes me believe we'll replace Thomas with another loan - which means waiting and seeing who's available.

Lively got into guilt edge chance positions and spooned 90% of them.
We love a player who runs a round but if he improves great but you can only go on what we have seen.
I would be gutted if he signed on his performances last year. We can’t afford to create chances for another year for him to make the wrong decision.

Some people seem to forget how early and mid season he carried our attacking threat almost singlehandedly at times.

I'd like to have seen him with us for another season to see if he came on a bit more. He might struggle in the championship.

1.2 million. That might put into perspective what we can hope to get for Bayliss. Thomas looked a much better player than our Tom last season. (Apart from his finishing)

he was learning his trade here and you can see the potential. 1.2 mill for Thomas is a bargain.
