Thomas Asante was poor last night.
He's like a box of frogs when the ball is played into him. Sometimes it confuses the opposition but not often enough. Saka back Sat' if fit.

Asnte has earned his right to start Saturday in games that matter. Last night was just a sideshow, as proven by our team selection and other team selections up and down the country.

He's earned his place by performing in the games that mattered. He's still BTA, he'll do BTA things but you have to respect his improved output in this early part of the season.

That's fair and you have to admire the effort he puts in.

He has to play at the moment because we are threadbare (a) at RW with Tats injured and Rapha not yet ready to be a starter and (b) CF with neither Bassette nor (sadly) Simms worthy of a starting place.

I was beginning to think that BTA was improving until his horrendous performance last night. His reading of the game and situations within a game are usually poor . Unfortunately needs must currently with him starting on the right which is ok against the sides we have faced to date but is going to be a problem moving forwards. We do need a starting replacement on the side to compete with Saka. BTA is a bench option and nothing better realistically. Can't fault his effort but effort isn't enough .

I think he, as well as Saka, play much better with MVE playing.

You seem overly critical of him compared to other inconsistent performers in the team.

He should be praised based on how hes played so far.
And if you look at my comments after the QPR game you will see that what you've just stated is incorrect. Keep up Sparks !

Got to keep in mind we played with 8 changes and he was in a different role. He's had a good start to the season, I wouldn't look too deep into last night and judge him over the next 2-3 games to see if he can replicate Derby & QPR performances.
If so, Saka might not walk straight back in, which I never thought I'd say.

He looked better once the others came on. He was poor prior to that but in his defence he just didn't have the options a lot of the time, Andrews wasn't near him and KKH wasn't as supportive in attack as MVE.

Yep Rudoni consistently gave him a short pass option so he could move the ball on, which is what he needs. Beforehand he had nobody to pass to and kept losing it

Plus i dont think Sakamoto is fit anyway

I think that, all being well, we will see him on the bench after the international break. In the meantime BTA will play on the right. If nothing else, BTA drags defenders out of position with his pace which creates opportunities for others.

Ngl, I hope we sign a winger before deadline day. BTA has played well in the last 2 league games, but at RW it’s a square peg in a round hole.

Looked a pretty round peg in the last 2 league games to me.

Having said that, I'd love another LW option so there's no risk of Haji going wider if EMC misses games

Not really, he's not been playing conventional right wing. It's worked because both Derby and QPR were defensively all over the place. Last night Millwall were tighter and more defensively sound. He has had two decent games, but they are just two games, taking it up to about 3-4 decent games in 45 appearances for us. Let's see what he can do against a decent side.

Regardless of if Sakamoto is fit or not BTA has earned his place for the next few games at least.
Sakamoto flatters to deceive too often, and disappears up his own arse in too many games, especially away from home.

BTA can be bloody frustrating to watch, but offers far more of a goal threat, last Season Sakamoto managed 4 goals in 42 games, Assate has 2 in the first three games!

Can he be consistent? Who knows?
But I'd be in no rush to drop him at the moment.

To be fair Thomas-Asante only scored 4 league goals last season himself. I don't know for sure but if we are comparing like for like I presume Saka provided many more assists too. Sakamoto also operates well with MVE and provides us more of a defensive shield.

I thought BTA was poor last night, but so were many others, but I do agree that he deserve to keep his place at the moment, particularly when we are playing against the likes of Oxford. Once we start playing tougher teams though I suspect Sakamoto will make us a stronger unit than we are with BTA playing instead.

To be fair to Sakamoto, he was recovering from 3 broken vertebrae.
