The guy is more effective than Simms IMO. Gives 110% every game and was chasing the ball down in the 95th minute. Unless we have a better alternative he starts.

Personally I’d rather start with Simms and then bring BTA on around 60 mins when players are starting to tire and he can then run round like he does and chase down loose balls and stuff

Or you can have BTA on from the beginning, running and disrupting them, not letting them settle or find their rhythm.
It can work both ways. Probably depends on the opposition.

I think once teams tend to tire they sit further back! So I can’t see BTA being effective trying to break open a defence when they have 11 men behind the ball

BTA brings the energy but has a limited football brain. Simms has a better football brain but often looks like he isn't putting a shift in both can do great things both can be frustrating.

Simms has a very limited football brain. All the athletic attributes you need, but got nothing to tell him what to do with it at the right times.

I'm with you on BTA hasn't got a football brain how many times does he run into people with the ball instead of looking to go where the space is,he is better when he doesn't have to think to much he can strike a football so is better at being in and around the box and striking it first time.Simms just looks uninterested all the time and can't time a header plus struggles to run with the ball at his feet also has no aggression. So none are what we need to get promoted.

Simms can actually read the game and knows where to be but needs to increase his aggression and run a bit more. I'll concede on the mistimed headers it's odd it's like he always expects to get clattered from behind so doesn't go for it. Id say as backup players when we are trying to get to the playoffs they are fine.

Not as technically gifted as sakamoto , but we look for more direct with him in the team .

When saka comes back in the team he simply has to attack the box much more .

2 goals 2 assists so far for BTA

Couldn’t give a shite how he plays if he’s going to continue with the goal contributions.

Buzzing for him.

I think BTA is ahead of Saka in the pecking order at the moment. Saka tends to drift out wide more and looks to cross more versus looking for his own shot. BTA plays more centrally and in the final third. Whether Saka scores the 2 goals BTA did in the last 2 games is up for debate. BTA is stronger while Saka is more skillful.

If we shift two strikers it’s Norman and Simms for me now.

BTA has proven there’s a space in the squad for him

It's not about being ahead in the pecking order, certain games will suit one player more than the other.

BTA needs to accept he's a much more influential player as a wide forward than as a striker. But there will be games where he is totally ineffective there too, because he isn't actually that good a footballer technically, but games like today suit him down the ground where he got acres of space to exploit.

Tats will suit different games with his skill set. This is what a strong squad looks like, options for scenarios.

Well done to BTA, a really good performance today. We have definitely gone more direct the last few weeks.

I do think you have to caveat that QPR were abysmal today. And on paper our first 6 games are against some of the weakest teams in the league. We will need Sakamoto once we start playing against some of the better teams, where there's little space, and the press is more intense, and when where we need some protection for Milan.

Perhaps technically not the best, but his appetite for the game and his work rate is epic. He's always right on it, start to finish - I get why FL keeps picking him.

Made one incredible defensive run today where he tracked back across the pitch and made a block when the defence made an arse of things.

Has his limitations but he attitude cant be faulted

He was very effective today and he seems to be a good vibes character. This is an attribute that often goes unnoticed but is important for the spirit of the team. He will get confidence from his contributions so far and will continue to be of value. His movement into central spaces made it difficult to mark and contributed to us being far more unpredictable offensively.

Yes I noticed that also. I liked that the front 3 rotated with each other throughout the game in a way Sakamoto can’t because a centre forward he is definitely not.

Looked more fluid

Lampard with high praise for Brandon in the City unseen video .

Suggests he was carrying a niggle towards the end of last season .

Calls him a very valuable versatile member of the squad , clearly likes him

It's true.
You might not think so, but its obvious to everyone who can look at, and asses a player without wearing sky blue tinted glasses.

I hate to break it to you, but there's a reason why Frank isnt playing him, and that's because hes not very good at football.

Have to say that I'm finally starting to warm to him. His effort has never been in doubt but more recently he seems to be looking up more instead of running into blind alleys.

If Sakamoto was fully fit for next weekend, I’d start BTA ahead of him 100%

I was thinking yesterday that it's such a shame Bassette doesn't seem to want to be part of the feel-good feeling around the squad.

It's madness that he isn't even making the bench.

I’m sure there’s something I’ve not thought about but why isn’t this round next Saturday? No one plays their first team anyway internationals will have minimum impact.

Why waste a Saturday on a game most clubs won't take seriously for a few rounds yet.

really liked watching BTA on the right. great performance. pace, power and clever decsion making. what i especially like is how Lampard has given him licence to get into the box in a central position, often ahead of Wright. This is different positionally to how we play with Tats who we will mostly only ever see him in the box at the far post. It's similar to how Chris Wilder used Hamer last season (albeit he was coming in from wide into central midfield, rather than from wide into the box), it makes it difficult for defenders to know who should be picking him up.

Am i right in thinking that Wright arriving late for the first was made more possible by BTA occupying the two central defenders by being central and the furthest forward?

I love Tats to bits and will be happy that he is back fit but, for now, I think we look better with BTA in the front line. And it is great we have two different styles and tactics fromt he right now depending on who plays there which will hopefully mean we can switch it matches if we need to roll the dice.

edit: also loved how lively he was for the 6th and 7th in terms of hunting for a lucky break. if the keeper saves or comes back on the post he was the only one (including QPR defenders) who was alive to it. surely there is a good 5-6 extra goals right there alone over a season if he keeps getting into those positions.

Because there’s no real football that Saturday just internationals. Would get more support for these games if not clashing with England games and clubs might be more willing to give players minutes to keep up fitness rather than worrying about the impact of a mid week game. Just a thought. Seems silly to cram it in this week then have no football at all for two weeks.
