Bakayoko may have been a donkey but he was our donkey. He was with us when we didn't have a pot to piss in and helped us to where we are now.

Some people seem to have forgotten how bad things got. If a player was worth a quid we sold them for 50p so we could buy a light bulb. Those without the ability but gave 100% are just as important as those who grew with us on our climb back up the football league.

We paid a fee for him, he was signed in the aftermath of selling Marc McNulty. It was hardly like he was playing here as a volunteer.

If memory serves Gyan scored at the Ricoh for Udinese in a summer friendly, I want to say 2009?

He pissed me off because he could have had a decent career in European football but he pissed off to the camel leagues before it was even cool for some easy money. I see he dipped his toe in Chinas failed attempt at becoming a power league too, which doesn't surprise me.

Played a part in an iconic World Cup moment with Luis ‘Dracula’ Suarez though

I think it was a fairly decent fee by our standards for that time as well.

Robins brought him in thinking he could turn him into an old school CF somehow not realising that despite his 6"4 frame he had the physical threat of a timid cat.

Any time Lampard says the squad is thin, someone should tell him that Bakayoko played more than a dozen times for us in the Championship

Wasn't it 200k inclusive of add ons (which defientley wouldn't have been achieved in terms of goals/appearances). That's what was reported by Bristol Live at the time anyway as Rovers were competing with us for his signature if I recall.

Has a very good goals per games ratio for both club and country, almost a 1 in 2. A lot of clubs though

Things were starting to improve when we had Bakayoko in the squad, we had striker options of him, Chaplin and Hiwula who all cost a fee as well as JCH. That was hardly our dark days.

Bakayoko is a legend for his effort and application at the start of our ongoing journey.
At StAndrews v Bolton in 2020, Bakayoko walked onto pitch with my lad when he was a mascot. After kick off we started our walk around perimeter of pitch towards stand. Bakayoko scored in first 30 seconds and came and celebrated with us before we even got to our seats. Great photo of it and on camera too. My now teenage lad has ever since been massively passionate and invested in Cov (from afar). It was a special moment and even now makes me proud and a wee bit emotional and it will probably stay with us both for the rest of our lives. Bakayoko probably forgotten about it though
