Just one side in 12 seasons have avoided relegation from the Championship when they were bottom at Christmas, so Thorn's side will now have to defy the odds to stay up.

8 points from safety. 6 behind Donny. Lowest number of wins and points in the entire Football League. Only team in the league yet to win away from home.

We're gonna need the Ark of the Covenant to get out of this one. Even if we found it, we'll lose it and get told on CWR that "we were unlucky to lose it."

I remember when we had to win our final 3 games to stay up. Won at Stoke, beat Luton at HR with a late goal (lost my voice for a few hours after Killer's goal went in), and then whipped Champions Everton at HR on a glorious Sunday. We stayed up, and Norwich went down.

That escape will be nothing compared to what's required now. For starters, that Triple-Win team was far superior compared to CCFC 2011/12.

I'm sure there was a season under MA when we didn't win away, only team in the league without an away win that season I think.

Not sure, but I'm sure that under MA, we ended that season at Watford and there was a big thing about "can City win away from home even once this season?"

Answer? Nope.

Me too. They were brilliant games and the atmosphere was great at all games. That was the greatest escape.

I remember that season as well but it happened a little differant, we won at stoke, then we won at luton not HR, :thinking about: then we beat the champions everton 3-1 or 3-2 at HR.

Didn't they have to beat us one year to stay up as well, slightly remember they were awful and they had to beat us and our players were virtualy inviting them to score, may have been the year after or close to it?

I'm sure that was at HR, I even remember seeing a coach of CCFC fans from Nuneaton outside the ground that night and the Central TV coverage the next evening.

And we beat Everton 4-1.

I went to all those games and seem to recall us beating Luton 1-0 in midweek then hammered champions Everton 4-1 on a Sunday morning when the season had finished for everyone else. My memory may be playing tricks though...

The Luton game was definitely at home...was it Killer scoring the winner?

Must be have been hell for Norwich fans that season.

"Ha Ha! Cov are doomed and they can't cat....oh, they've won 1. No worries, we're still safe...shat, they've won 2. But Everton will surely whip them......NOOOOOOOO!"

I think Everton had played something like 45,332 games by the time we played them, but still, great performance, great day, great goals, great escape. :claping hands:

Yep, 6 minutes from time.

Never has HR gone as bat-shat crazy as the moment when that goal went in.

1.

Who said football fans don’t do irony!

As a Saints supporter living about 30 minutes from the Ricoh Stadium, I follow the events at Coventry City with interest. Especially as I can remember the “praise” and “relief” displayed by some of your fans when SISU abandoned their bid for Southampton FC and decided to “purchase” Coventry instead.

Please note I said some of your fans, not all. There were those who were unhappy about being taken over by a hedge fund. It’s all a bit unfortunate now that those wiser heads did not prevail and went unheeded.

Before you think I’m criticising Sky Blue fans; I’m not. For during our bad times we too had many who wanted Delieu and the Ransom/SISU consortium in charge at St Mary’s. None more so than our erstwhile and wannabee legends. To be fair, those sentiments were mostly a reaction to the group of financial pygmies we had in charge before Rupert Lowe’s sent our club into Administration.

Thankfully, we were bought by a gentleman who was wise enough before his sad and untimely death, to put someone who knows the football business in charge of our affairs. The former a German/Swiss and the latter an Italian/Swiss (this infuriates the “Euroseptic” and populist element in our midst). Our current CEO has brought a much needed dose of realism and is slowly gaining respect despite the off stage antics of the local press and certain reactionary groups.

However, I’ve no doubt, should we hit a bad spell (we will) and should we fail to gain promotion this season (still likely), then we too will have an uprising on our hands.

If ever you want me to sign a petition or go on a demo to save our football clubs from either the machinations of Football Assoc or those of the League, who have turned our great game into the largest money laundering process ever invented; then I’m your man.

In the meantime good luck, I hope you get matters sorted out soon, for I’m looking forward to visiting you in January for the next round of the FA cup and for the Olympics later in the year.

My, but I am a misery-puss!!

Hi You have my sympathy with the situation at Cov, however, there are a couple of problems with putting your request on here,
1) a good few of us on here are unable to get to matches through various reasons.
2) those who do get to the matches are a miniscule portion of the crowd, probably numbering in the tens, not even into the hundreds.
I am guessing that you would have visited other Saints sites as well as this.
Good luck with it and I hope that you can get my fellow Saints fans to join in your verbal assault at the game.
Merry Christmas!

Thanks Houchen.
Worth a try, maybe all clubs fans will give the same reaction if southampton aren't interested then non will be as they nearly had the tossers before us.

Thanks for putting those up it's all come flooding back! Was in the posh seats for the Luton game and remember thinking we were doomed. The relief around the ground when Killer's goal went in was incredible. The Everton game was completely different..just remember it being one long celebration...remember Cyrille being immense that day and for me his performance totally transformed his whole career with us. Also remember it being really hot....
