I agree with every single word of that tweet. It's all spot on, apart from the bit where it mentions the UK.

Absolutely mental - shows how hard it is for us to grasp stats really. I’m absolutely freezing this morning, feels like I have been for weeks.

'These records date back to 1884. This may surprise you. The mean temperature takes into account the overnight lows and day time highs.'

Must be about 25° every night then.

I remember during lockdown we had a really hot April, no way it was that warm this year. I'm going to go out on a limb and call it a load of old bollocks.

I think Northern Ireland has been unseasonably warm for the last month. Maybe that’s screwing the figures.

It must have been about 55 degrees to bring the averages up that much!

Yes guys. It’s a conspiracy to convince you it’s hot. Big ice cream at it again.

This is what climate change seems to mean for the UK, increased minimum temperatures but with those a lot of cloud and rain due to warmer air retaining moisture.

It really hasn’t been that cold. Can’t think of many days recently it’s dropped below 14 outside of the early mornings/late nights.

The winter was very mild as well, the weather has been broadly the same for months really just min and max averages go up a couple of degrees

I've been walking my dog between rain showers for months now, just got in and spent 10 minutes washing him down didn't even take him through the fields.Temperature wise the winter has been mild but the rain has been unbelievable, we've been flooded in several times over the last few months.

The rain is the bigger issue. Last summer was miserable and it sounds like this one will be as well.

I guess you can't argue with the numbers , spring 2020 3 months of pure sun and colder nights due to less cloud cover .. I guess miserable with more cloud cover means warmer springs

For those that lived through 2020 (all of us) it's the only explanation for these numbers showing that spring this year was so so much warmer overall , cloud cover at night ffs

Mean temperatures uk

M 2020 5.6 M 2024 6.7
A 2020 9.1 A 2024 9.37
M 2020 8.65 M 2020 13.1

Apparantly this may was over 1.5x warmer than in 2020 certainly not when you were awake anyway , pesky clouds

It might have been wet ..but it’s not been cold , I can’t remember defrosting the windows on the car since Christmas, this would definitely bring the overall average temperatures up

Out fishing at 6:30 this morning. Water covered in mist and freezing my bollocks off.

Riding to work was the same. Not the water covered in mist but I switched over to my summer gear a few weeks ago and felt like I needed my winter gear this morning.
