Had an amazing "customer service experience" at a (newly refurbished) shoe shop in Leamington this week: she avoided eye contact constantly. Chose some things to try on, tried them on, had some questions but instead put them back then walked out-not once did she look up from whatever task she was focussed on at the counter!

You're following a show on TV and everyone on social media says what's going to happen next and you think "they're not going to do that as it's far too obvious" and it turns out that's exactly what they do!

Bill increases - mobile firms - so virgin just announced going forward broadband will increase by RPI + 3.9% per year
Do that for 10 years and their bills get 45% dearer in real terms

What is wrong with increasing by inflation, or even more so where tech gets ever cheaper less than inflation

When we started with them our bill was about £45, this year it’s £75 a month. Called them up and told them we wanted to cancel as it was taking the piss, they offered us a package for £45 again if we accepted an O2 SIM card. Random but accepted

Tbf It wasn’t too bad as we got there early and got a seat. However, had we not it would’ve been shite! Surprised how basic it was, given how big Marseille is.
I’ve Not been to CDG but it sounds like a theme…

The best French airports are the ones that are prepared for Skiers like Grenoble - I don’t count Geneva French side in this as it’s signage is absolutely rubbish - it’s squashed into a tiny area and shit !

We got the same deal, we'd come out of our contract and they upped us to £160 a month, we booked city fibre and got a stick and told them we were leaving, they then offered my wife everything for £45 as long as we had an O2 SIM for £25, my lad needed a sim so we accepted.

They offered us the package for £42 and the SIM for £5, which compared to the theft of £75 seemed good.

My neighbour frequently walks through our village in his karate outfit with his black belt on. I don’t even know if he’s off to a lesson but for some reason it fecking annoys me!!! I’d love to get out there and start throwing some haymakers at him but the wife wants a peaceful life.

Probably a deterrent - wants people to think he shouldn’t be messed with, when he may not have even had a single karate lesson in his life.

Smoking is dumb: Young men who smoke have lower IQs, study finds

A new study has determined that young men who smoke are likely to have lower IQs than their nonsmoking peers.

At what level is formaldehyde bad for a person?

This reads like a piss poor rehash of something someone has posted on social media.
Your post said "you might as well smoke".
I disagree, as does the NHS.
Convince me please.

To answer your specific question, one answer is the workplace exposure limit, above which you must not allow anyone to be exposed (while at work). This value for formaldehyde is 2 parts per million. That said, this also takes into account dilution in room atmospheres, etc., not drawing it directly into your lungs, so i suspect the harmful level in the respiratory tract is considerably lower than 2ppm.

Further to this, the article cited by @Brighton Sky Blue includes the sentence "We show that, within the tested e-cigarette brands, thermal decomposition of flavoring compounds dominates formation of aldehydes during vaping, producing levels that exceed occupational safety standards."
If your employer would be prosecuted for exposing you to such levels, why on earth would you choose to inhale it directly into your lungs?

In one corner we have two qualified scientists.

In the other is JAM See copy pasting the NHS website and ignoring peer reviewed evidence.

To be fair, I see @JAM See asking for proof that vaping is as bad (or worse) than smoking.

You've clearly presented evidence that vaping is bad for you....and hes not arguing that fact...

Hes asking for peer reviewed evidence that vaping is as bad as smoking?

In saying ‘May as well smoke’ I’m saying that as someone who does neither, they’re both going to make my health worse and not trivially. It is also worth noting that long term epidemiology on vaping doesn’t exist yet as it is fairly recent so most of what we have comes from chemical and biological analysis of what happens when you vape.

I did also post a paper that shows similar DNA damage resulting from both. That literally does what he’s asking.

pretty much every study I’ve seen through the media says vaping isn’t as bad. You don’t inhale that stuff do you?

I have smoked and I can’t see the attraction of vaping

Government guidelines are also on drinking totally ridiculous

Read the papers and go into the technical details. My point was I wouldn't want the contents of either in my lungs.

Being patronised on the subject by someone who doesn't know what formaldehyde is and just cites the NHS information page is funnily enough a 'thing that annoys me'.

Apologies, just seen this (was in Cardiff last night and must have scrolled down to latest).

The discussion didn't start out about formaldehyde, it started about the health benefits of vaping Vs smoking. It's about the fact that @Brighton Sky Blue asserted that

I can post stuff about formaldehyde levels in stuff (Vapes Vs fags), but that's not really the point...

E-cigarettes emit very high formaldehyde levels only in conditions that are aversive to users: A replication study under verified realistic use conditions

In 2015, a study identified 5–15-fold higher levels of formaldehyde emissions from an old-generation e-cigarette tested at 5.0 V compared to tobacco c…
www.sciencedirect.com

The overall point I'm trying to make is that smoking is much more of a health hazard than vaping.

@Brighton Sky Blue doesn't agree, but won't provide peer reviewed evidence to the contrary.
