This could be my pettiest entry.

When the Mrs uses the microwave, she’ll more often than not open the door with a few seconds remaining. She’ll take the item out, shut the door and not press cancel to reset it. So then for days on end it’ll have, for example, 4 seconds on the display screen.

It’s an absolutely ruthless level of carelessness.

End of Term in December "Im going to keep my child off school as it saves me having to book a day off to come and pick her up at 12" "You cant, it would be an unauthorised absence and she would be in troubler"

So she goes in, doesn't even have a lesson and I have to book a day off to go and get her at 12.

Mid Feb. "We are striking in 2 days, keep her off all day"

Make up your fucking minds. If you want to strike, don't be fucking pricks about it when it's the other way round and people don't want to have to take a day off for the sake of going to school for a couple of hours.

Not the teachers who make the former decision. Ofsted punish schools on attendance. That said I don’t agree with half days for exactly the reason you say. Schools just assume no one works during the day.

It was, her teacher was a knob about it. I emailed to literally say it's half day, I will need a day off, it's last day of term and they won't be doing anything important anyway.

No I mean they can’t agree to this cos they’re assessed on it so there’s policy on it from above. Just say she’s ill. they can’t argue with that. Same for holidays TBH.

Was just being honest so she didn't have to lie to her teachers to be fair. If I do it then when she starts doing it when she's older I can't say anything.

Surely it will be an unauthorised absence for her when she can't go in during strikes?

No it’s only unauthorised if the school don’t agree it’s a valid reason AFAIK.

The school is open —> You shouldn’t keep your kid home
The school is closed —> You should keep your kid home

I can see why you’ve been inconvenienced but I don’t see the double standard

The double standard is that it's vitally important for her to be there for a couple of hours on the last day of term when they generally do fuck all but it's not as important when they decide with a couple of days' notice during the term.

I doubt the teachers took the decision to close the school lightly. I understand that in an ideal world you could pick and choose when your child attends school according to when it’s most convenient for you, but they’ve not exactly closed the school on a whim, have they?

It’s all to do with attendance reporting. They have to report the last day of term - taking the PM register as early as they can get away with hence the half day. On strike days it can be coded differently so doesn’t affect school published figures, and this could cover the closing of specific year groups.

That said I agree with shmmeee - I would advise to just say illness regardless, the school won’t do anything except mark it authorised.

I didn't want to say illness as it then looks as if it's OK to bullshit illness to get a day off.

In 7 years I think I've had 2 or 3 days off which just used holiday days and they were bad cases of the shats and a bad back where I couldn't move I think. I'm lucky that I don't really get hangovers or I just book days off in advance when I know a good drink will be had!

When I was a kid, I'd try and blag it all the time but I don't want my daughter to think it's OK and if I have actively done it for her then I can hardly tell her off for it. She would just say "but you said I was ill when I wasn't this time"

Amount of bad drivers on the road this morning is incredible, was going down the A45 at 60 towards Brum, and someone pulls out into the outside lane, going no more then 50 without looking, then slams their breaks on.

What’s the point in adding more lanes when they just sit in the middle? It slows down the flow of traffic and is dangerous - they’d be better off just having 2 lane motorways.

1. The union will have provided two weeks notice to the school of the strike days. So it’s the school you should blame for late notice.

2. Teachers don’t set the school calendar and opening times, governors do.

3. A teacher can’t authorise an absence like that even if they wanted to. They also won’t be the ones deciding not to have lessons on a half day-that comes from above.

Can someone like NW now write an essay defending the profession? That’s how it works on here right?

Nope. I laughed at it not for the arguments themselves but because you think I want no free press and total censorship. I said AI could replace the vast majority of them and stand by it.

It’s tiresome on this place people putting 2+2 together and getting 50. I do await someone writing an essay debunking Nick, anyway.

Not sure what you mean there, but if the school is officially shut because of strike action then a child isn’t penalised for not going in, because they can’t. Your school probably has parent governors you could complain to more directly.

Your school will also have had two weeks notice.
