I switched from them to Amazon. Not thought about that for years.

Went to the petrol station this morning. Paid for fuel then went to the Costa coffee dispenser to get a drink. Selected beverage and as was being dispensed the instruction screen informed me 'Your drink is being crafted'.

Walked out coffeeless.

When Play.com turned into some kind of knockoff marketplace I switched to Amazon. Play were part of the glory days of the internet when websites looked shit and you didn't know how many awful thickos there actually were out there.

People who are now going to the paper about mould.

I don't doubt, there are some buildings which are completely rotten and should be knocked down. However, there are plenty who seem to expect others to do everything for them and not even try the basics to stop the mould or clean it up.

Far too much nowadays is expecting everybody else to do everything.

I’m convinced the stories are put out to wind people up though. Must be.

If somebody lives in rented accomodation that is so damp that it's full of mold, it is down to the landlord to sort it out.

FFS there are myriad paints about now that inhibit mould even as the finish and not a base coat.

In some aspects yes if it's a building issue.

If it's the upkeep and the tenants not giving a shit then no.

What do you think the tenants are going to do.
Get their own contractor in?
A private landlord will be reluctant to get some odd job tennant with amateur skills splashing stuff on all the carpets , kitchen units bathroom suites etc for a month's free rent.

There's plenty people can do themselves to prevent damp though.

Granted if its the building that's fucked but what's to stop a tenant going to get some damp proofing paint if they think it's an issue?

I get damp in parts, it's usually if the bathroom window has been left closed when having a shower. I bought a dehumidifier which collects a fair bit over the winter when all of the windows aren't open and used a couple of bottles of mould spray to clean it all.

It's what I mean about people who will just go to the paper rather than trying to sort anything out. Hill is probably right though, probably published just to piss people off.

We now have a problem in one of our places with mould, they've disconnected the extractor fan and won't shower with the window open, some people are beyond help.

Spray bottle with bleach cleans it right up for about 3 months until they call again.

So holding landlords to account for providing you with a habitable place to live is now ‘woke’?

I did see your follow up comments, and yes for general in house cleanliness, keeping on top of it yourself is normal… but that kid didn’t die because his parents wouldn’t get some mould and mildew remover.

The things that annoy you are likely to annoy 99.99% of the population. Photo realism is pointless. Still life is as well. The tripe server up for The Turner Prize is proof that people haven’t really got a clue. Me, abstract, Impressionism. Some artists spend hours painting/having time to contemplate what most 4 year olds screw up and throw away.

I didn't say anything about "woke". It's not a term I use.

That's a completely different argument, if I thought something was going to make my child ill to the point of death I wouldn't leave it in the hands of somebody else and then say "but I rang them up and complained a lot".

he was never told to specifically use anti-mould paint and had not experienced the issue before.

The coroner said it was due to “lifestyle and bathing habits” and ventilation. So yes the landlord/housing association probably could have come out and made sure there were working extractor fans in every room etc.

However, who sits there and lets all that mould build up in the first place in a place their kids live? There is shit loads a tenant could do to prevent it.

Not directed but a post above made me think of one. During busy periods, people who fuel up, leave their car at the pump to go in and pay but then decide to do a full shop meaning others can't use that pump!

'Deluxe' versions of albums (I am a streamer these days, so they always pop up on my feed).

I want to listen to 'Reckoning' by REM (38 minutes, perfect).

What I don't need is 38 minutes of a beautiful album followed by nearly an hour of filler and outtakes.

Fuck off!

This but anywhere.

Id make it a public order offence. Same as having your phone on speaker in any situation other than a group of more than 2 people gathered round it.

Insurance companies. LV insurance specifically.

I slipped in the shower in May and put my knee through the bathtub. Checked and it was covered by my buildings insurance so made a claim which was approved.

They sent out a company called Gallagher Bassett who sent a young lad over to fit the replacement bath as repair wasn’t possible. This was a Friday and he left the bath half full of water saying to leave it overnight and drain in the morning.

Saturday morning I go to the bathroom and the bath is empty. Weird I think and go downstairs to make a cuppa, where I find water dripping from the ceiling on the kitchen.

I call LV and they send me £40 compensation and tell me someone more senior and more competent will be out Monday morning to resolve. Monday morning the same kid comes out and refits the bath, does a terrible job with the finish but I think sod it at least it’s fixed.

Until my GF takes a shower and water starts coming out the ceiling again. I call again and again they promise to come out and resolve, new guy from Gallagher Bassett this time seems better, seems to have fixed it and once the ceiling is dry they send out a painter who takes one look and says it needs replastering first.

Plasterer comes out from GB and leaves my kitchen covered in plaster but at least fixes the ceiling. Then painters come over and leave while I’m on a work call. I go in to find that they’ve bodged the job: used the wrong shade of paint, have just roughly painted around bits and not properly covered the water marks in the ceiling. And again flecks of paint all over my kitchen. Sod it I think, as long as the bath is fixed and I wanted to repaint the kitchen anyway.

A week later the leak reappears. I call LV and tell them I’m done, they need to send someone competent out and while they’re at it they can repaint my kitchen properly. Another GB employee comes out, claims it’s the sealant that’s the issue and paints a small patch of wall the correct colour and says he’ll have to wait to do the ceiling as it’s damp.

Another couple of weeks and the leak appears again so I call LV and GB and say frankly I’ve lost all confidence and I want a new contractor and I want everything they’ve done wrong fixed including the newly squeaky floorboards in the bathroom, the now not working extractor fan, the mould problem that’s appeared in my kitchen cupboard, the lot. I’m done.

They agree to send a loss adjuster and a specialist leak company out. I agree. Loss adjuster comes out and is shocked at how bad a job they’ve done and tells me the leak company will be in touch.

Just had a call from the leak company asking for £350 excess. I laugh and say no and call LV who initially claim that’s my excess for water damage. I laugh again and say they’ve caused the water damage and I’m not paying them a penny. Back on hold and they say they’ll “delay” the excess until the leak report but if their company says it’s not their fault I’ll need to pay the £350. I’ve told them my next call will be to the Financial Ombudsman.

Only just caught up on this thread. Did you get this sorted mate? I’m a loss adjuster and may be able to give you some steer if they’re still playing silly buggers.

I don’t work for GB but know of them…
