I consider it justice for paying extortionate fares for tickets that never get checked. 3 months between Leamington and London was £3300, it’s been checked maybe twice in 20 journeys so far.

I assume you are rarely able to get on the first train back to Leamington after the game and therefore end up pissing about for an hour as I had to?

No point bothering with that, we normally just go halves on an Uber. We would actually take the matchday shuttle, but the club insist on you paying for it in both directions so you can’t just take it coming back. Pete raised it and was told ‘it isn’t logistically feasible’ which smells strongly of pure unrefined bollocks.

I get that but England fans away are relatively well behaved where alcohol is permitted. Even if it was low alcohol options (or something).

It’s chicken and egg imo. Alcohol is banned because of anti-social behaviour, but alcohol being banned in the stands creates a culture where fans drink more pre-game which fuels more anti-social behaviour.

This is a simplistic summary.

Speaking to people in the music industry there has been a push from the venue for more events.

The problem is connectivity. While there is a shortage of a venue that sized in the midlands we all know its a pain to get to. Its bad enough from Cov, if you're booking acts where you want to draw fans travelling from around the region its a huge issue.

We missed the boat with AEG when SISU tried to get them involved, they now run Wolves Civic which is one of the venues we're competing with for shows.

But you can get there from Brum in 15 minutes on the Metro which is a timetableless service (you can turn up and be on the way within minutes). To get to the CBS would be what, an hour? Plus you have to change trains.

There seems to be no push to extend the West Midlands Metro over to us, let alone to connect the city centre to the CBS. So you're really reliant on the light rail project which seems to be taking forever.

How about a bar floating fifteen metres above the pitch and a teleporter to get there? Would increase capacity and beer sales.

Could do with adding another 8-10k to
The capacity if we stay up for a season. The train situation has to be sorted out, just needs a bit of money putting in.

Beers in the seats no thanks. People will be up and down every 5 minutes to get it and it will be spilled everywhere.

absolute NO to this. I don't want some little scrote lobbing beer over me because we've scored a 90th minute winner against Burton Albion in the Carabao cup - and doing 'forced limbs'.

Look at european games after a goal. It's full of beers being lobbed in the air.. hard no

Take your point but it’s all forced anyway, I’ve been elbowed/hit in the head at least 2-3 times from a random when we’ve scored.

Or WBA away, some randomer tried to pull me down when we scored…

Oh yeah great idea, we don't have enough on-site parking as it is.

If they need another hotel why can't they build it on the land between the train station and Tesco's

I dunno. That explosion of emotion does take hold of some people. Myself included and I'm mid 40s. I've bear hugged more strangers than ever this season. Nearly had my nose broke by a stranger at Middlesbrough he squeezed my head so tight, but that's ok as Simms had just banged it in the top binnage.

Forget the beer throwing though. Waste.

Back to the Rail, my understanding is that Network Rail are proposing a new platform at Cov Stn, to serve Nuneaton and the Arena, which will increase the frequency of trains, that don't have to cross the main lines at Coventry. I also think of late there are now two trains back to Cov after the game, one is an extra and the other is the normal 1 hour service.
Sometimes I park at Bedworth leisure centre and walk down the canal and come back by train with a ticket, brought from the app on my phone. The number that get off at Bedworth is enormous now. If the NR did a purge they could be pocketing a fortune in the fines for no tickets!

They don't have to jump the barriers, because there isn't any at Nuneaton, Bermuda Park and Bedworth.

Yeh after i typed i realised Bedworth was probably just a platform with nothing else, i thought Nuneaton would have barriers though.

I do wish people would realise that even though we are technically in theWest Midlands, that is only so that we can help that shithole at the other end of the A45 get more money. We are the equivalent of Oldham and other towns in the Greater Manchester area compared to Manchester.
we are never going to get a half decent transit system in this city and surrounding area because our local politicians both councillors and MPs are more interested in everywhere except here.
All the talk of opening Coundon, Foleshill and Ernesford Grange stations that’s been forgotten but let’s celebrate the 3 stations being reopened in Birmingham and the Metro being extended.

Yeah it does now, never used to do that though, it used to start from Nottingham then Leicester then Nuneaton and then Cov without CHANGING TRAINS , love to know why it got changed, we have lots of Sky Blues fans at UNI in Nottingham they have to change stations TWICE.

I don't see why Cross Country rail can't have a service that links Nottingham to Leamington Spa and all stations in between.

Not sure why it was changed. When I was at uni in Nottingham I don’t remember having to change for Cov. But that’s part of the plan if you read the link I shared it’s to improve Coventry Leicester and Nottingham connectivity. The arena increase in trains is just a bonus really.

We seem to have this conversation every year and as we are going further up the pyramid the urgency becomes more apparent.

History - When they built the Ricoh, as it was back in the day, the train line next to the stadium was used more for freight and the construction of the 'station' at the Arena was a token gesture. The line is controlled by network rail and they have constantly said that the line from Coventry station has to cross over the Coventry to Birmingham lines in both directions and as this line is the busiest in Europe it is impossible to add additional services to the timetable. It was made even more difficult when they reconstructed Kenilworth Station as this then extended the line that was previously Coventry to Nuneaton, to Leamingham Spa to Nuneaton calling at Coventry because this service can be used throughout the week and not only on match days. Also, the longer carriages they used to use cannot be used on the newer service.

I have been looking at the situation for many years and still cannot find a solution. The new tram system in the city could be upgraded and extended to the Arena, and/or they could use a tram/light rail system that can join the train line tracks further down the rail but that would cost millions and as football may be lucrative in the short term are the services worth the investment in the long term?

Even the rail bosses say they best way is to have shuttle buses from the main Coventry station to the Arena, because they cannot see another way.

Thanks for this post didn't read it before I posted, answers my question.

So they upgraded the Station adding Bridges, barriers and car parks but didn't bother upgrading the platforms to accommodate train service to and from Nuneaton and Lamington Spa.

And we're still waiting.

Was there not supposed to be a new platform at Cov on the retail park side, hence building the underpass.

Think the idea of that was that you then didn't need to cross the existing line to get to the stadium / Nuneaton.

Got scrapped after the tunnel had been build I seem to recall, think they might even have spent the money to build the underpass and then blocked off access.

There is always a way. It isn't like they've got to build an airport on the moon. Just not enough desire to do it, or willingness to spend the money to do it.

100% get it, I remember hugging a stranger when Bellingham scored v Slovakia - 3-4 of us hadn’t even exchanged words throughout the game.

The grabbing and pulling down the stranger and the beer throwing can get in the bin.

My personal experience of beer in the stands has been great so far and I have hitherto avoided being soaked.
