Glad he’s not getting the stick that Wilson or Collins would have got, that was an absolute howler, came back well and made some good saves after that, wilson In for saturday ?

To be fair it looked from 15 like he expected to either be clattered or someone to clatter the ball away and flinched. Not great but he made loads of really good saves afterwards

Love Dovin but he fucked up for their second goal and has to own it.
All players make mistakes. Jesus, there were enough throughout the team against Leeds and I am not excluding the ref on occasion. Goalie mistakes tend to be more important. Would not have changed the result, we were pants.

I hope they focus on the errors so he can improve. Surely that’s basic training?

Or do you mean selection for the team?
Bit of both probably. The second goal needs analysing with Lati, not sure how that situation can be replicated in training. Lati could have hit the scoreboard clearing it from there.

I know what I mean, just can’t think how to express It more clearly. The praise for the good stuff needs to be given really strongly and positively before reviewing the goals, identifying all the errors which lead to each of them. That is, they weren’t 100% down to Dovin.

Simms needs to be told he needs to have scored a hat trick before a pass back like for the first goal. Lati needs to be shown where row Z is.

I just don’t want Dovin’s fragile confidence to be destroyed, else we will be back to one of the other keepers, with whom Leeds might have had another high scoring win.

Simms one is just a heavy touch, it wasn’t a pass back. He needs to work on his touch, I’m not sure I’ve seen a player at this level with a touch as bad, but that’s not new.

I still blame Thomas for that goal, miles away from anyone playing everyone onside and very slow to recover.

The second was just a freak incident. 9/10 times Dovin collects that with no worries

Great news.

Meanwhile, in the real world, we are 11th in the league.
We could drop a place tonight if results are unfavourable.

He certainly likes the old trick of slowing up as he approaches the ball and then falling over when he feels the slightest touch. It cost us at Norwich but he gets away with it mostly. As Oggy said in commentary the other night if you are going to do it make sure you fall on the ball, but clearly the safest option would be to simply clear it to Row Z.

He didn't get the stick because he's saved us numerous times since coming back into the side, and despite the uncharacteristic error, still went on to be M.O.M.

The fans will stick by him because he's a young, inexperienced keeper that has great potential and is improving all the time.

The other 2 keepers are just shit.

I will have to have another look at that as my first impression was that it was a bad touch (an extremely heavy one if so).
I have since come to the view that there was a bad touch followed by a heavy and inaccurate pass attempted to someone who was “ facing the right way” to clear the ball up the pitch.

The coaches will have all the video and GPS data to do a better analysis then we can.
I was talking about Dovin (as this is the Dovin appreciation thread), not the team.
im really sorry, I thought xG was how many goals we “should have scored “.

I don’t see how being 4th in an xG table so far this season reflects well on Dovin especially as he hasn’t played in every match. He is the best gk on the books, although I’m not sure he would have scored Wilson’s goal against Blackburn that helped us get in to the playoff.

And not just because he wasn’t here!

He is not the best keeper I have seen play for Coventry City. but he probably is over the past decade.

They were talking about the PSxG +/- per 90 standings which are individual to each keeper.

He’s trying to lift it to Torp IMO but his clown feet sent it over his head instead.

To save anyone asking, I would rate Bill Glazier, Jim Blyth, Hedman as better. Westwood about the same, also error prone from time to time.

Why not say that then, instead of saying xG?

Does that mean that being ranked 4 th in a PSxG + - table is as a result of the combined scores for each of our keepers, the implication being that, as the others are truly shit, Dovins brilliance has single handedly lifted us from the depths of piss poor performance to an overall pretty good?

EDIT not literally single handed, he has been allowed to use both hands and both feet as well.

No, Dovin is ranked 4th of all keepers in the championship this season.

Wilson is ranked 3rd or 4th bottom.

Collins is absolute dead last, by a country mile (last time I checked, can't imagine anyone else has plunged to his depths recently).

For a keeper it was hard to see from but now looking at clips, I can only think being younger he was affected by the Leeds contingent behind him,or it was just an off game for him, nothing to fear here, just his development to progress.

So you didn’t mean the team then, you meant Dovin’s personal stats. How am I, or anyone for that matter, meant to deduce that from the words you posted? Giving the wrong measure for a start is very unhelpful.

All you needed to say was that Dovin is ranked 4th of all keepers in the championship this season based on his PSxG scores which represent …………..whatever it is that it represents.

It's hardly silly. Anyone with half a brain can see it was a ridiculous move hurtling in like that to attempt at blocking a player who didn't need blocking.

It clearly threw Dovin off so Lati is equally as culpable.
All the commentators, Farque, Lampard and the Leeds fans said it was a goalkeeping error. These things happen. He was brilliant the rest of the match as he has been for the last number of games.
Absolutely no reason to try and share the blame. It was his ball and he dropped it. All goalies do it, even the best. Lampard recognised that.
