The Old time supporters (4 Viewers)

For the record we were mainly shit in the Premiership avoiding relegation many seasons by good fortune and 3 other teams being slightly worse than us. Yes we are in division 3 now and playing the likes of Bury instead of Man U but before you youngsters start crying into your beer we older fans have been there, seen it and got the T Shirt

To be fair, though, there was the perk of having the likes of Beckham and Zola at HR on a regular basis. I agree, the myth around some of the younger support that the Prem was an amazing era is false. I remember 2 seasons at best and I started going in 1992.

Note: There was once a myth amongst us older fans when we were in the Premier League that if we were to get relegated, our team would be Gods amongst men. That turned out well, eh!!

Most teenagers/20ish people do not work or pay their way. That isn't their fault. I'm a qualified and experienced professional with a glowing CV and great referrences, and I work. I've looked for other jobs and I can't get an interview anywhere (not because I'm unhappy in my job, but it's good to keep networking). If I was unemployed, I can only imagine that it'd be even more difficult. It must be even harder to break into the jobs market fresh out of college/school/university at the moment. The stats that are released are false as well. They are saying that the amount of people on JSA has decreased recently. That's not because these people are finding work, its because they're getting sanctioned too easily, or put on work placement programmes who ditch them as soon as the contract is finished.

The coalition has already bred a generation with skills but no work experience. Fresh out of college or school is a vital time for workers. It gives them an opportunity to learn basic lifeskills such as a good work ethic. Due to how difficult it is becoming to get a further or higher education, the next generation will have no skills or work experience, and those with the skills will have gotten used to a life where the only thing to get up for is Jeremy Kyle and will drift from job to job because they haven't learnt the value of a 40+ hour week.

(this might be a rant)

very:claping hands: ranty:p....

We understand that a lot of the older generation have moved away and we respect you for coming all this way to see your beloved sky blues, i would do the exact same thing. We're saying that people that only come to soak up the glory and not to support their club, they're plastic fan,s not you guys. I for one respect the older fans cus they have been thru a lot, FA Cup win, relegation, the lot. I'm 17 years old and i love City more than life itself, so who knows how much i'll love them when i'm int he old gen

Wishing I was someone else,
It’s my own fault that I’m fucked up but I still worry about my mental health.
I’ve g-g-got a stutter and the memory of a Goldfish,
My mind is melting into mush because I barely use it.

I think it’s time to sort it out, to get a job and move out.
But I’m just a kid! So? Deal with it!
It’s the credit crunch, that’s my excuse for being unemployed for months.

Wishing I was someone else but I’m not, I’m myself,
And I really need some cash ‘cos chasing dreams don’t pay you jack.
So put the kettle on, leave the tea bag in because I like it strong,
My mouth is burned to bits and I’m practically drowning in PG Tips.

I’m not promising anything but I’ll try to try
to get a job instead of watching TV all of the time,
but we all know the best thing since sliced bread
is Two Pints Of Lager And A Packet Of Crisps.

Playstation 3 is owning me, I’m sick of playing Gameboy, Nintendo and Xbox 360.
My thumbs have blisters on the plasters covering blisters -
Triangle and circle are my brothers, X and square my sisters.

I moved back in with my mum, no job, no money, no hope, no fun.
I owe about a million grand for my guitar, my amp and a band van.
I studied music at University, spent another million grand on tuition fees
and then left without a degree.

We are the kids of the recession, credit cards, overdrafts, loans and no pensions.
We are the kids, we’ll learn our lesson by years of living in a country in depression.

Yes, we have a lot to thank for Labours time in power

It contributed, yes. Far too frivolous. The approach by the Coalition is what's causing my initial post/rant.

I also notice the prominence of evil Payday Loans coming into play since the coalition too!!

Yet again our young generation get the accused of something else. If someone called me a plastic I'd just laugh, I think you'll find it's not the "young generation" it's the club as a whole we have this mentality of turning our nose up at extra support, me included in that.

Lets draw a line under this. If we care enough to go 1 game or hundreds of games if we care enough to get a season ticket or consider getting a season ticket if we care enough to have an opinion on the city then we are all supporters fans whatever term you want to use.

Robins came in and said everyone connecting with the club needs to pull in the same direction so far robins and his staff has the players have, sisu show signs they are, now it's our turn to pull in that direction wether you go every game or can't afford to go or just don't want to we can still pull in the way robins wants us to

Hope your all inspired by that Obama esk speach

Without turning this into a political thread it was Labour that made it comfortable for people to be on benefits while at least the coalition are trying to sort out the system. As I work with the unemployed many, but not all, don't want to work and are happy to live on the welfare state but are starting to feel rattled by the clampdown :claping hands:

I meant I'm not a typical young person who leaves school, then never works but expects the tax payer to pay for me. The dole should be for genuine people looking for work, like yourself. I just said that as most people on here assume every teenager/ 20ish person does not work or pay their way.

Oh I definately agree with you there.

But as you say, so many fans use it as an excuse to call people like me wasters.

I hate going to the dole office. It's like a fething zoo for those people society doesn't want anyone else to see.

The amount of times I've gone in, signed on and then left as quickly as I can, cannot be counted on my fingers alone.

The dole office love me though because I regularly come in with 10/15/20 job applications on my sign on sheet when they only ask for 6 a fortnight.

I want work but sadly so many others don't want to work and use the dole as an excuse to get away with it!

Then some of those same waster fethers have the gall to then tell me I'm a crap fan because I use my money to pay bills etc!

It's good to have a break!! I did the same around the same period as you, although it was 2004-2006. I'm now more fanatical than I ever have been.

The last 7 years have been my sabatical.

I was living away from home in south west wales doing my degree and I didn't come home regularly enough.

When I did I spent my time with my family.

And while I followed the City and listened to games every week, I still wasn't as fanatical as I have been since last year.

It's nice to take a step out sometimes. You come back feeling the connection more!
