Good news for WFT fans - Cowboys paid Prescott. In salary cap hell for next couple of seasons going to be losing a lot of good players to pay a top 15 QB.

Someone needs to stop Jerry Jones. Half of their cap is going on three players, one of which is a running back.

None of the last 10 Superbowl winners RBs has earned more than 3 million a season.
You just can't have a single player taking such large % of your cap. Going to be hard for any team to win a Superbowl going forward when they are paying their QB over 20% of their available cap.

It’s no problem, when he starts getting hit in Chicago who is he going to blame then? He got hit a lot partly due to the bad o line but also he holds on to long looking for a super throw it’s also become all about him.

The trade to the Jets looked better that I saw yesterday two first round picks one of which is the second in the draft to take Zach Wilson and number twenty three

I do feel he may have caused too much of a drama to stay now. Just, he's capable of magic ennit.

Way too many QBs take huge contracts then complain about not being protected. Take a look in the mirror.

Chiefs releasing both tackles this week because they have to pay Mahomes $45m. Brady winning every other year because he takes 20% less than market value and they use that money to stop him getting hit.

He has also backed himself into a corner as a lot of the teams his agent named don’t need him , want him or can afford him.

I thought he was saying he wanted to go to the Raiders with that. Sounded to me like he picked a team from each division of the NFC, thinking the Seahawks wouldn't trade him in conference, then the one team he actually wanted to play at.

My fear of him leaving is totally shrouded in my subjective experience with the sport in that he's always been the QB as long as I've followed. I still find it slightly mindblowing that one player is so key to the success and failure of a team. There may be examples where this is just not true, I suppose you could say recall Nick Foles winning the Superbowl with the Eagles for one. Part of what makes it so great.

They can have any quarterback to toss the ball off to the running backs as that’s where the action is going to be.

Yeah seems like it from what I've been reading. If that works, great.

I hope this doesn't change Washington's plans at all. I quite fancy Mariota but he'd probably be more tempted by Seattle. Would be a good QB to have with a run heavy offense throwing screens and his short completion % over the middle is very good.

Teams putting themselves in trouble. There is no middle market for non-elite but good QBs. Prescott deal good example - maybe good enough to get Dallas back to a winning record but is not a Superbowl QB.
Go down the list of cap space and it's dominated by teams with QBs on rookie contracts or mid-range QBs.
The stopping point could be Mayfield. Decent but non-elite QB with an incredible roster around him. Will Browns tear it apart to pay Baker when he is not a top 10 qb. Pay Baker and they're going to tearing apart that expensive O line to do it.
Bills will pay Allen but again are going to be losing good players to do it.
Point of interest no team has won the Superbowl with a QB making over 13% of their cap.

Be surprised if it's the Bears unless they are going to offer some of their defensive talent (which Carroll will love). Can see the Bears over-valuing Mack in trade terms. Don't have great draft capital. Plus isn't there is the 30 odd million in dead money the Seahawks would have to eat if he moves pre-June 1?
Russ would continue to get planted in Chicago as their pass protection is poor as well. Something slightly toxic about Wilson since he started employing his new in-laws and his wife taking a 4 day sports business course at Harvard last year!!

Then Brady reverts to norm and restructures his contract to allow Buccs to keep a winning team together - just like he used to at the Pats.

I wonder if when a Euro Super League happens if they'll bring in a salary cap and draft model from national leagues to try and maintain interest.

Fear of being bad rather desire to be excellent seems to be the some team mantras.
Do not see how paying Cousins or Prescott gets you any closer to winning a Superbowl for example. Examples of good (but not great QBs. ) who can win games but not titles.

I got into the sport by watching all or nothing and that motto sort of stuck with me. It's not like here avoiding relegation being good or fighting for the top 6 or Europe.. You win the thing or you get nothing, if you're a middling team and you just bob along you should be looking to move forward.

It's why I was happy for Washington to move on from Cousins, it's obviously made is crap in the mid-term but we'd have ended up 8-8, or there abouts, for a decade before he retired.

That's part of the beauty of the sport. It's a built-in cyclical nature. A 2-14 team can win titles within 2-3 years. Teams can reset and go for it.
Combination of the draft and cap can make any team relevant with the decent management.
Next week we're going to see a lot of last season's weaker teams stock up on top players as they have cap space and many of last season's stronger teams don't (and some will be losing big players). Big teams can't just buy their way into relevancy at the expense of smaller teams like in football. In football a Brady doesn't join the Buccs.
The draft is a great equaliser over a period of time but can change some teams immediately.
Also there is only one prize - the Superbowl. Nobody cares who came 3rd or 4th. Division titles are more about regional bragging rights than anything meaningful. Making the playoffs every year but losing in the first round can actually condemn teams to mediocrity as they suffer in the draft - less likely to be able to draft superstars or franchise changers.

Try telling that to a Jets fan they seem to lose every season the draft makes no difference to them. But it does work for other teams and is a good leveller.

That's the leveller. With equal opportunities Jets and Lions consistently blow it - that's down to ownership and management.
Maybe the only downside is if you're successful in one particular draft. If you nail all 7 picks chances are high you'll have to lose at least 4 of them after 4-5 years because of the salary cap

Still find it amazing that most capitalist nation on Earth uses a socialist principle to even out the competition in its favourite sport. You literally get rewarded for being shit.

Then I remember it's a closed system and all the 'franchises' are just money making machines for the billionnaire owners with almost no risk attached and it all makes sense. Even though that system makes a mockery of the supposed 'American dream'.

I fully expect a European Super League to adopt a similar closed system when it inevitably happens. Reckon half of the owners in the PL would like it too and was probably in the thinking behind its inception back in '92. We probably were all for it at that time - long standing members of the top flight but constantly fighting relegation.

So it's Fitzmagic for WFT.
Pat's and Jets showing their cap space spending muscles.

Pats are deffo addressing some big needs, they just need a QB and a WR and they are looking good to go this year

Newton, Agholor & Bourne not enough?
future QB addressed in draft? All those defenders back as well.
Belichick does prefer FA to the draft.

Is Newton back? Also hadn't seen Agholor news? He's the deep threat the have really lacked for a long time. Bourne is a good addition for them as well.

Bet the Jets and Polhins and Bills are like "Bill WTF"

Also with BB seemingly trying to solve all other problems via FA are the looking to give away a large part of their draft picks to jump up in the draft to get the future QB? Not talking top 2 but for someone like Lance or Jones?

Can see them targetting Jones as a BB-type QB. May not even have to trade up for him unless they fear somebody else climbing for him.
Really have filled their holes with FA so far and still have space to look for a Thuney replacement

Added Henry now. So that's his 2 TEs he likes to use.
QB seems likely. Just whether they go BPA or QB in 1st round. Also BB could well like the Stanford QB Mills in round 2. He really is a BB QB just lacking game time so could sit behind Cam for a bit.

They've brought a lot of D-Line help in including a couple of tackles they could be going big in the draft
