Is driving me mad

weve lost 6 games in 8 , had a stroke of luck at forest and won well v newcastle .

Unlucky at man city granted

We are barely competing and im being told by fans and manager alike we should be ok with it because its the premier league .

Tactically we play shit scared at times but the passive slow nature of our game is horrible to watch .
We dont press , we rarely counter so what actually are we trying to achieve ?

I cant be told by people that i shouldnt expect more because weve just been promoted , both ipswich and hull are making a better fist of this

Surely frank can see that what we are doing is not working , if we win 2 in every 8 games we go down

I left the ground miserable yesterday , angry and fed up because it feels like i can see whats going to happen to us

Completely agree Evo and if you include the Villa cup game that's 7 losses in 9 games against PL opposition, is piss poor anyway you look at it.
It should have king telling frank to buck his ideas up and fast

If we lose to sunderland weve lost 80% of our games this season against prem teams

I can live with losing, I can’t live with our lack of fight and urgency and the will to give everything. Watching Hull today makes more embarrassed by our performances over the last couple games.
I agree , i want to feel some pride in the team , i dont mind losing if we have a go

the way we set up its vital we dont go behind

We've lost the last two in pretty tight games where the opposition had zero big chances, we are competing but to do so we've probably gone a bit too far trying not to concede at the cost of our attacking threat

I agree with pretty much all of that post but I can't agree we were lucky against Forest and Newcastle, in my opinion we were worthy winners of both games

Its the way we are losing mate , i know we usually try and show some balance with it all but we cant play like this anymore

I'm not surprised by the results because I'm a realist it's always going to be difficult to compete in the Premier League with the stablished teams.

Can't disagree with that, to be honest. Weirdly felt better coming away from the game against Brighton than yesterday. Trying to remain positive, but I was struggling yesterday to figure out what our plan was and how we were going to hurt them.

Both us and Fulham were happy to allow the other to have the ball, Fulham were just tidier with it and took their chance well, after some abysmal defending by Rudoni and everyone else doing nothing to support.

I still think there is a chance we can stay up, but we need a plan and fast, because at the minute short of standing off I can't see one, or a consistent one anyway.

Think Forest result was lucky tbh. If it was Hull or Ipswich did that, people would be saying it was luck so I don’t know how it’s any different with us.

To have been told you’re deluded to expect increased tempo or any improvement in the basics by the ‘ooh it’s Premier League’ brigade is just plain stupidity.

Fulham are a poor side and controlled the game against us .. its a poor showing and a worrying performance overall
They finished 11th last season; they’re not great but they’re not as bad as has been made out and their underlying stats suggest they should be higher in the table.

Yesterday was poor from our perspective though.

Generally i thought they looked where their league position suggested yesterday , an argument that marco silva had them over achieving last few seasons

Personally think goal difference is a decent, simple and often underused barometer to go by on team performance relative to league position.

The fact they were only on -3 despite being where they were shows they weren't as bad as their league standing suggests. Obviously a simplistic approach and can be distorted, but I think it's a decent enough snapshot.

We have comfortably ,the highest PPDA (passes per defensive action) in the league

Basically we allow the team the ball and play low aggression and press less

Ours is 20.7 passes against us before we make a defensive action

I think tactically we’ve been really poor all season. Give teams far too much space, don’t press but also aren’t tight at the back either. Ultimately I don’t think the squad is good enough but it doesn’t help when we aren’t getting the tactics right to compensate for that.

Piss poor really, think this comes from Lampard telling the team that all the opposition are quality and if you try and press or commit to a tackle they will do you and pick us off.

What I find frustrating is other than Arsenal and Brighton, we haven’t been outclassed. All the other games we could’ve got something from. Yet we’re not taking the opportunities to get points.

We’re like a man who keeps being offered great jobs, which he turns down, and then moans that he doesn’t have a good job.

We’re wasting our opportunities to stay in the league

We had bad spells last season when we got too defensive and we made mistakes, because we don't defend well. We have most of the same defensive line but now let MVE, JDS hide behind the likes of Sakamoto and Rudoni rather than them taking defensive responsibility.
We need to attack far more at tempo like we used to. Play to our strengths not some abstract tactics sheet.

The problem is lack of quality where it counts, and keep playing Championship players based on their workrate not on their quality.

But even with that we aren't out working teams

Heres the teams who have covered the most distance in each game we have played and the result.

Vs Arsenal - L - Arsenal
Vs Hull - L - Hull
Vs Man City - L - Coventry
Vs Brighton - L - Brighton
Vs Forest - W - Coventry
Vs Newcastle - W - Coventry
Vs Tottenham - L - Tottenham
Vs Fulham - L - Fulham

We have only out run 3 teams this season - Man City (Lost but maybe could have got a draw), Forest (Won) and Newcastle (Won).

Football is a funny old game so they say. I do think this level of criticism is a bit too early. We were poor yesterday after starting well on the front foot. It just never really happened. One moment of quality from one very good player changed the result from a frustrating draw we would have been content with but not happy. Forest was not luck, we were overall the better side as were Fulham yesterday.
However, yes I'm in the camp that Frank seems to be playing differently and of course you can see that does not suit Grimes. The new players apart from Pinnock have been inconsistent such as Caleb. He'll probably have a blinder against Sunderland! The most frustration came from expecting Rudoni to do it all and for what ever reason did not use the silky skills of Torp or the defensivemidfield quality of Oneyka till very late on. Hamer has had about 10 minutes off the bench all togther so not sure how you expect him to just come on and be a game changer in the 85th minute. He needs to start or be on from 60. Game time will see him improve immensely.
If we are atrocious next week then by all means come on and vent.

I will be amazed if Frank doesn't mix up the team for the next game (if you can see the issue, so can Frank). Whichever side he picks (unless it's the same again) if we struggle, fans will always say that whoever is on the bench should be on instead of xyz. For me the opposition have been able to get to the edge of our box too easily without physical opposition, plus we've not been aggressive.
decisive enough when attacking the opposition goal. Watched Hull today, and although they weren't all that, they have very aggressive centre backs (Herrington looks a prospect, Ajayi - top cb, plus have Mendy and another old grizzly). They scrap for everything - although I still think they may go down. We need some scrappers in there, as our better ball players alone will not outperform PL teams without that element. That's why I feel Grimes has to go. I can live with getting relegated if we have a go for it. Yesterday wasn't that - and I'm sure FL will think the same.

The Forest game stats really do not suggest we were better overall. For a stat heavy forum it’s very selective…

That's a fair point, although the only stat in football that matters is the scoreline.

All of this has escalated because we lost to Hull. We shouldn't have but we did. The fact them and Ipswich are doing better than us is what really people are moaning about, but fine margins and had we won that game, we'd be above them now. We can't drop the money others are who are starting from a higher base. Spurs £400m on a squad already worth that either players like Maddison, Kulisevski, Van der Ven and Solanke for more than our whole squad.

Yes we've lost 6, but 4 of them Arsenal, Spurs, Man City & Brighton.

We have some players who are nowhere near their ceiling and learning, the language, the league, settling in and in a weaker side. It will be a struggle all season, anyone not expecting that is deluded.

Strap yourself in, stick with team and what will be will be. Every time you feel like being a fanny, remember where we've come from and smile.

He either needs to play the players to suit his tactics (pace out wide and a more dynamic midfielder than Grimes) or change tactics to suit the players he insists on playing.

At the moment we have slow players in a deep formation. Harder to break down so results are closer, but absolutely 0 goal threat. We all knew staying up was going to be a tough ask but i can’t accept that we will do that without giving ourselves the best chance of survival. It is painfully obvious this isn’t it.

No it's because at 2-1 down against Tottenham he brought on a right back, it's because we showed zero fight or any quality yesterday, it's because he clearly has his favourites that he played week in week out despite them struggling, it's the style and pattern of play standing off players that's clearly not working, which is why we have already conceded 7 goals from outside the area (6 in the whole of last season), it's spending £120m but not using it effectively and leaving players you've spend £20m+ out of the squad or just not playing them due to blind loyalty for players that played in the championship last season.

At 2-1 down v Spurs, we were pushing against a very good side and almost equalised. We didn't but if we had the KKH substitution wouldn't have been mentioned. Yes weve *reportedly spent £120m sone of our competitors are spending that on one player. We all knew this would be a fight, after the Hull game the criticism was we should've played last year's team. What did you realistically expect this season? Id have had us on barely any more points, just different games, but we're not adrift and there are 30 to go.
