My partner won a holiday from a competition - We've got 7 nights on board a self driven boat in France. We had lots of places to choose from but we've settled on Canal Du Midi in the South of France - Flying into Toulouse and I think we're doing roughly 160km slowly meandering across the canal and stopping in villages on the way.

Really pleased with it because it's a holiday I'd never think to do, neither would I spend how much it is to hire one of these boats!

Definitely spend a bit of time in Carcassonne if you can. First thing you'll see is the Hotel Bristol, but it gets much better . The 'new' city is lovely, but the old citadel is something else again (but can be very busy/touristy)..

Nice one! We've taken two abroad three times (they were 4 and 2 the first time) and it was fine. Next holiday is the first with three though which is a big step cos you're outnumbered!

Enjoy. We also did Lanzarote in October as our first holiday abroad with two kids.

It's great fun, but exhausting, you'll need a holiday to recover when you get back

We've got a one night stay in an Airbnb there at the end of the boat tour!

Any tips for Istanbul? Going in 3 weeks, leisurely week there but trying to see whether its worth booking the mosque etc in advance.

Enjoyed Cancun in February and thought about going back but it was a bit pricey so booked a week in St Lucia in October so expect a home win while I am away.

Today was great...journey to the airport and then in airport was fine. No delays, transfer good and resort is decent.

Kids are 3 and 6 and they've appreciated the late night and all inclusive ice cream and we've only been here 3 hours!

Been there loads, absolutely spectacular place. Should be okay to just roll up to the Sultan Ahmet (Blue Mosque) and the Hagia Sophia although the latter has reverted back to a mosque so wouldn't know. Same with the Grand Bazaar.

Buy a travel pass. Peanuts and you can cross to the Asian side on the numerous and frequent ferries. Worth it for the spectacular views of the Dolmebahce Palace, Maidens tower and Besiktas football stadium (free to enter museum here too). Pass also allows access to the underground tram that goes from Taksim to the riverbank. Very handy as quite a climb in the Turkish heat!

For an evenings entertainment Nevezade St (just off Istikal St) is an absolute must. A narrow cobbled incline thronging with vibrant bars and restaurants. The Besiktas area is also a great place to drink day or night. Food and drink shouldn't be any more expensive than anywhere else in Turkey either.

We returned from a combined tour of Rhodes and (a little bit of) Turkey (or Türkiye) a couple of weeks ago.
We'd done Rhodes before and enjoyed it (our Silver Wedding Anniversary), but never Turkey.
Loved it!
It's such a vast country so three days is but a scratch.
Waking up to seeing hot air balloons taking off in front of a mountainside of snow-white calcium carbonate was special, as was Ephesus.
And we celebrated our 43rd Anniversary this time by buying a very expensive double-knotted hand-made rug while there... It's due to be delivered this afternoon. She's very excited...
Must go back and see (eat!) some more of Türkiye* though.

*Not turkey. Can't stand the stuff.

The kids have decided that they want to go to the seaside once a month this year. Just got back from a weekend in Blackpool, kids loved it. I tolerated it.

Couple of days in Bude next month. Last time I was there it was full of City fans!

No. Might be different in Istanbul but I know any type of excursion in holiday parts of Turkey are used as a platform to attempt to sell carpets, rugs, leather items etc so would recommend going direct to anything you want to see.

Never been before but we're looking at going to Istanbul at some point later this year. As a cat person, I'm looking forward to it.

Not much south of there until you get to Norfolk.
Northwards - Mablethorpe and Cleethorpes are just as bad.

Been a mad 6/9 months at work so I'm just gonna be happy to go anywhere.

Can go to Spain or Cyprus with minimal cost as we have accommodation there, but I'd be keen to get back to Cyprus as I really enjoyed it for 1st time in Sep 24.

We last went for our daughter's wedding ten years ago.
A friend of ours just got back from a week there at the dog rescue centre (Paws for Homes Foundation on Facebook) where our dog came from. She flew back with ten dogs for UK fostering and re-homing, stinking of dogshit after cleaning up after them, feeding them, etc, and absolutely loved it.
I couldn't do it though as I'd just want to adopt them all.

I think the place recommended south of Skegness was in Norfolk, it wasn't Mablethorpe or Cleethorpes in the north, I think it was a small resort.

Edit - or Sutton on Sea (don't know how I forgot that. We used to go there regularly when we lived in Chapel).
