I'm no fan of the monarchy as an institution, but that doesn't mean I can't wish the Queen well and wish her every health and happiness.

I don't mind Prince Charles either tbh. As he's grown older, he's recognised the importance of his role, and he's taken on a lot of the Queen's duties the past few years. Sure he holds opinions, and influence - but that's the fault of the role rather than the man. Of course he'll hold an opinion, we all do!

With the Queen she's never really offered an opinion on things as she's understood her role is ceremonial and to do so could well have led to the abolition of the monarchy, especially in the late 60's, 70's and 80's. I'm sure that must be frustrating for her, and on the occasions where she's been recorded talking to people I do wonder if she's said it deliberately because she must be aware that she's surrounded by cameras and microphones so she can air her opinions 'accidentally'. But even then she is careful to not say anything too controversial or political.
Charles has been more vocal, especially on things like the environment, and if and when he takes over the throne I expect him to be more opinionated than his mother on certain issues even though I don't believe he'd ever try and use that position to have more of an influence in legislation. Even though I often agree with the things he says, it's very hard for me to get behind him because he is so out of touch with everyday life and some of the things he suggests just aren't feasible for everyday people struggling to get by. As you say that is not his fault, but it's very easy to say people should be doing this and that when you own numerous huge estates, a variety of massive properties and have access to a vast fortune and a large payment of public money.
I think he will see a renewed call for a republic under his rule as people have not pushed it hard of late due to the amount of respect, admiration and affection for the Queen plus Britain is falling apart and we've got royal family issues like Prince Andrew/Harry and Meghan. If anything the saving grace will be that those that are elected are pretty much totally incompetent.

I wish her no ill personally, there are probably bigger concerns about democracy in this country than her role in it.
However, it isn't quite right to think that the Crown's role is purely ceremonial.
There's quite a long history of interference/lobbying that isn't appropriate for a non-elected head of state, in my opinion.
I don't like the way that it's kept quiet either. See below if you're interested:

But it was Tony Benn who always made clear his issue wasn't with the people and I think that's important to draw that line. I have a lot more respect for the Queen and Prince Charles as people than I do the current elected Prime Minister, after all.
