We do also know that the IRA expressed condolences on hearing of Hitler’s death. Time to put this behind us and accept that most Irish people don’t want to blow us up and that Germany isn’t plotting a 4th Reich.

I do have fun explaining to Germans that although I am ‘Englander’ the missus is ‘Schottlanderin’ though. Most like a lot of foreigners are oblivious to the difference

English would be banned from home until everyone is fluent in French. I learn as much as I can for every country I visit. People shouldn't be ignorant and should try their best to integrate.

The older generation came from a time when Britain was always referred to as England. The Nazis kept that misconception going as, in their propaganda and school books, Britain was ruled by wealthy ex public schoolboys from Eton and Harrow.

When they first started putting the national flags in the screen in TV football matches, they had to put out messages at halftime for people watching England games to stop phoning up to say they were showing the wrong flag for England. They were convinced the England flag was the Union flag. Not as bad now though.

They'd probably get more complaints from irate Scots

Dundee was close to where I went to uni. If you wanted bridies with and without onions you had to say

Twa bridies, a plen ane an an ingin ane an a

Though in Greggs you'd just point at it and hope for the best.

I have a book at home, „Dundonian for beginners“. I employed a group from Dundee and they gave me the book so I knew what they were on about.

It is a curious place with statues of comic characters, football grounds side by side and weird tasting food. But a lot of good people there.

I agree. My ability to pick up languages seems to have deserted me as I get older mind you, so guess I'm stuck in the UK

BoJo didn’t get his garden bridge, water cannon usage or bridge to Ireland past spouting hot air. Bullshitter and opportunist who cannot even fulfill his own PM dream. Davis turned up in Brussels with no files and was hardly seen again. A pair of incompetents.

I thought it was about capable leavers who could have done a better job than May. I can’t think of anyone off hand.

This is the reality of brexit so nothing. Johnson is good at extending deadlines just ask Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe. Actual if you read Boris’s column the Monday after the referendum you would have thought that we were heading for Norway+. That’s when Gove turned on him and put his name in the hat for the leadership contest forcing Boris to pull out. Then again Boris is a hard leaver now whereas Goves view has softened. Trying to second guess what Boris would have done is an exercise in futility. He changes his mind with the wind.

No you said both would do a better job. One bottled it and the other is a charlatan whose heart is more in becoming PM rather than what he does while there.

No the question was who’d do a better job. The point is either of these two wouldn’t have lost a parliamentary majority which is the biggest single issue regarding negotiating weakness.

Davis is dim and cautious and wouldn’t have called an election. Johnson probably would as he’s a risk taker but would have crushed Corbyn easily - before you start spinning around I’m afraid people don’t mind old Etonians as PM. They also vote on personality - a large majority would have meant any deal posed would easily have sailed through. A small majority and europhile sheep like Soubrey would be less brave.

May created her own mess by running the worst election campaign since foot challenged thatcher

Personality of Johnson:

Thinks Muslim women look like letter boxes and burglars

Adulterer

Two face

But does use long words and has posh accent. So yes probably would have kept majority. Would have had to drop the Telegraph doss job though. What great policies would be in the Johnson manifesto?

Because people never thought that was a possible coalition. If there was PR the options would be greater and you would knowingly vote for an ERG or momentum party. Now you vote for Conservative or Labour and end up with groups within the party pushing through things you don’t like. We should have had 10 green MPs according to PR. Rather have had a coalition with them than Victorian religious fanatics.

Making a broad assumption that multiple new parties would spring up.
Not likely multiple parties really come to the fore in UK euro elections with the list system.
Would the hard right leave the Tories, would the hard left leave Labour?
One fairly common theme of that type of PR is that govt tends to be pretty central politics.

The younger you are the easier it is. My youngest two should be speaking fluent French well within 6 months. My pronunciation needs to improve.

I love the French lifestyle. I have been going for 35 years. But my job has kept me in the UK. We first looked at moving about 15 years ago.

I want a wicker basket for when I go to the markets. I will become French in lifestyle. The only problem I have is quite a lot of English have moved where I want to be. I don't want to live in a little England with better weather.
