There's needs to be concessions on both sides and I think the EEA option is the way forward.

I’m glad I’m not the only one who noticed

“Conservative MP and former attorney general Dominic Grieve said Boris Johnson's views on Brexit have never been clear.

"At various times he's said very different things including, as you may recall, just before the Brexit referendum, producing two speeches. One in favour of campaigning for Remain and one in favour of campaigning for Leave," said the MP who supported remaining in the EU.

"I think the remarkable thing is he's been tolerated as long as he has."

Love what JK Rowling had to say on the whole situation via twitter “This is what happens when you have men in government who've been raised from birth to believe it's someone else's job to clean up after them. They throw tantrums when they finally make a mess no-one can fix.”

But isn't that also true of Theresa May and now it seems Michael Gove?

Will they get the 48 mps needed to trigger a vote of no confidence?

It’s easy to criticize. He didn’t have to resign now and just carry on but it is a very principled decision. He must be applauded in an age when career politicians are easy come by. I know Boris isn’t perfect and looks after Boris but on brexit he has been consistent.

No he hasn't. He's been far from consistent. The only consistency he's shown is being a consistently shit foreign secretary.
Though now Hunts in the job we'll all probably be yearning for Boris after a few months of fuckwittery

Jeremy Hunt is the new foreign secretary. Its like May was dared to appoint someone worse than Boris.

Nah not yet, they'll hold out as long as possible, I think. They aren't going to risk a situation where they end up having another GE.

I'd have agreed until Trump rocked up as President!

That being said, Johnson has enough enemies within the Conservative Party, and they recognise that while his persona might win them an election, long term his total inadequecy would ruin them.

Anyway, nice to see a consensus for the EEA. Sure *that* would get the majority vote on how to leave the EU were it to come to it. It's only the self-interested and mentalists who want an extreme version.

Agreed it's the option that delivers on the referendum while at the same time does not ignore the large % of those who'd wish to remain in the EU.

And also satisfies those who voted leave who don't want an extreme version.

While I'd have preferred Britain to remain in it, to have reversed the decision entirely would have been far damaging in terms of alienating millions of people.

I concur (note! Not agree..concur lol)

But I think they all recognise that no matter who leads us in this - they are doomed one way or another. So they will let her finish what she was forced to start...dump her & blame her for all the ill's that happen for the next 20yrs. A bit like The Tories have about austerity & empty coffers & all that

Unfortunately I can. The Conservatives aren't exactly overflowing with popular candidates. What are the options, Gove, Rees-Mogg, Hunt? If they are going into an election and trying to play down being the nasty party they are the last thing they need as leader.

You only have to look at Trump. Being an idiot and incompetent doesn't disqualify you. Johnson has very carefully cultivated his image, at least to the masses who don't really pay much attention to what's going on. He could be a far easier sell. Especially if Labour are too preoccupied with attacking each other to really challenge him.

I don't think he has the support within the party, Sajid Javid would be my guess though.

I'm pretty happy with the current Brexit plan, Boris and co should grow up. It was never as simple in my head as remain or leave

Which again throws it back to Cameron's idiocy in trying to make it that simple.
