Didn't go today, so cannot comment on play, however did Shaw play diamond today?

If he did just from the result, and what others have said its blatantly obvious its not working.

So why use it? Was it because it was the only formation Thorn used, and he wanted to prove Thorn right?

If he did, then it has backfired spectacularly!

Its all well and good showing solidarity, but results are more important than proving a former manager right!

Again I could be wrong, but Shaw did specifically say he was sticking with the diamond!

I think the diamond/4-1-3-2 will work better with fleck in bakers position :thinking about:

it dont work for us. still letting in silly goals because we cant play it properly, how many more goals and games do we need to concede till we realise this. people keep going on about it being the best formation for us to play because weve got no wingers, i dont agree. people only seem to think about the diamond formation when we're in possession which is all good and well but its when we aint got the ball that it goes wrong for us.

First half diamond - chance after chance to win it before half time.

2nd half 442 - didnt even look like winning it.
Completely the opposite of what Shaw said then

Shaw added: “We changed a lot at half-time, changed the formation, had more width and we had a go at them. Some balls were flashed across the edge, Cody (McDonald) hit the bar and we felt we had enough chances to win the game in the second half."

So either you or Shaw are going insane

first half we were slightly better in the diamond, passed it around ok and created a couple of chances until they scored.

second half we were awful in the 4-4-2 only had the 1 chance that hit the bar.

That sums it up, we're too narrow in the diamond formation by attacking and defensively, but now we don't have the players to go 442. I feel like we have no option but to play the diamond now.

If we brought in 2 pacey wingers, they don't even need to be that good, just someone who can go past their man and cut it back or knock a half decent cross in, it just gives us another dimension to our play that we're lacking.

Doesn't matter what the formation is if players aren't on their game and not putting the required effort or performance in.

We lack wingers to give us more options, and we also lack CMs to add competition and allow rotation. Doest help that Barton and Jennings missed most of pre season and could probably do with a rest, it also looks like the number of games in a short period has caught up with Kilbane. Problem is there's no one to replace them - Thomas and far I say it Bell are out injured and Mcsheffs not playing well enough to justify dropping baker in to a deeper role.

I'd say that's fair Stu, but even when we are playing well it still leaves our full backs badly exposed. We haven't been punished this season and it's not down to us, it's down to the lack of quality in this league. I can't help but feel, if we continue to use the diamond sooner or later we'll come up against a team who will put 4 or 5 past us. I said at the start of the season we'll have to out score the opposition to win games and that's fine if you're capable of putting in 2 or 3 chances a game but at the minute we aren't. We need to get back to basics.

Baker was far better first half behind the strikers before he moved out wide.

case in point right there. played diamond and conceded. played 442 didnt concede and hit the bar down the other end. if we have got players in that can only play in one formation that just confirms how one dimensional we are. players can adapt to different roles within a team through good coaching and hard work.

Thats true to an extent ,was'nt there for family reasons but did tune in .Sound like they had the first five minutes ,then we totally dominated the next twenty with a couple of missed

chances that you should expect to have been taken. The Ball was given away and they ripped us on the counter, from there it soundz like we went down hill.STU and Marty's comment are

pertinent ,As we definately have two midfielders who signed late and are yet to reach match fitness ,add in fatigue from Tuesday overall and you'd have to say more changes should have

been made before kick-off.This team will only achieve midtable without two strikers scoring 20 each besides cody.there may also be short term pressure from above to generate cup

income ,thus the team played being strongest possible without regard for the upcoming match, but overall may have been braver in changes made before kickoff.

We could of played the gold bullion formation in the first half yesterday, followed by the emerald Christmas tree and it wouldn't of made any difference! We were shite from front to back, start to finish.

not won a league game since march, 1 point off the drop zone

Mid table might be the bst we can and should hope for !
