Any advice on how to do it? I have shite willpower so any tips are appreciated. I've got a gig coming up in four weeks which will be a tester.
I work away from home and was starting to drink about 4 pints a night, every night. Employer paid for it so why not???
Then mid December I had a bad pint. Not had a pint since, drank a bottle of rum over Christmas and literally not touched a drink since NYE. OJ and Lemonade or plain old water seems to do the trick.
You only have to stay sober a couple of times whilst all around are getting pissed and you soon see what a dick you become after a couple.
I’ve spoken about this before, but I tend to drink Heineken Blue a lot of the time now. I was another who used to come in from work and have 6 bottles of beer almost every night, ended up about 3 stone overweight. Decided to pack in drinking for a month (this is last October) and whilst I still enjoy the occasional few - and very occasional few too many - I don’t drink anywhere near as much as I did. Heineken Blue is the only non-alcoholic beer that I’ve found to actually taste like beer. Hits the spot and it’s about a third of the calories.
I'm not a big drinker. Mainly as I've got older then hangovers last longer! Plus like you say if you drink at gigs at things like that you can easily spend a small fortune.I've got a gig coming up in four weeks which will be a tester.
Yes, i find that doing any sort of regular exercise j helps cut down the booze. I have hardly exercised for months and my intake has gone up.Personally I find having a physical target to aim for helps... for me, I’m a dedicated runner, so that gives me a focus... but it could be anything really... weight loss... or financial...
So, you got rid of that date sharpish then, eh.I went tee total for about 5 years, took home the most horrendous looking thing you'll have ever seen, missing teeth and all sorts, I decided then and there to stop the drinking.
The benefits are class though, more money, don't feel like shit, get into great shape. Etc.
I’ve always wanted to give it a go but just can’t seem to enjoy myself without a beer. Don’t need loads just a couple and I’m happy. Put it down to a confidence thing but I do really struggle to have a conversation without it...I’m clutching a can of 1664 whilst typing this!!Any tee totallers on here? I've decided to give it a a go. I don't drink a lot but when I do its to excess which then normally sees me getting cigarettes as well. Hate the feeling the next day. Looking at the bank balance is crushing the next day...I was out and about in Manchester for two days earlier this month and spent 250 quid on drink and not a lot else.

So I’ll be really interested to hear how you get on and what worked and what didn’t.
Oh.... I got my purple bin from where you recommended.... the fact that some Brummie has put an up the Villa sticker on it at work has not diminished my enjoyment of it on my desk.

Explains a lotand now I’m back to the Adrian Childs league of drinking
I'm easily led too, so thankfully I know less hardcore drinkers then I used to. As I get older I can't cope anyway, and the current Mrs Wisdom doesn't drink, doesn't mind me drinking but... it at least puts a stop on me if there's somebody stone cold sober next to me!I can quite easily go out and not drink, the only thing is if you are driving and you have to round everybody up as it ends up taking about 4 hours listening to nonsense.
I went on the wagon for 20 years having been a raging drunk prior to that - at least I was well with the units limit
It was utter shite and I was surrounded by like minded bores. About 10 years ago I thought fuck this and now I’m back to the Adrian Childs league of drinking
When I was at college I was advised to go for counselling as I was permanently stoned. Amazing thing in the 80’s so I few of us turned up. I went as I thought it was a programme aimed at helping me drink more but remain coherent. I was given some dumbass quiz about my relationship with alcohol and some twat asked if I felt deep shame. I said no I thought it was hilarious and now I’m off down the pub.
Useful for lifts, though
Can I book her for a week Saturday NW ?
I used to have a real unhealthy relationship with alcohol and looking back I’m lucky I didn’t die from it at times.
I went tee total for 2 years, which was the best thing I could have done. It was like pressing the reset button and really helped me reassess my drinking, that’s not to say that I never over indulge now, but not to the same crazy extent and I have a much lower tolerance now.
The first 6 months are tough and you can’t expect to just cut it out without making adjustments elsewhere to compensate for it.
How does it affect your social life when you give up? Do you still go out to the pub?
Do people look at you suspiciously?!
