Got my tickets, after today's results, I'm looking forward to it even more. With Bailey going back to Derby and McG suspended... Who should play and where?

I'd probably play:

Murphy
Christie Wood Edj Adams
Barton* Jennings
Baker Fleck Moussa
McSheff**

* Thomas if fit
** not sure, Cody or Elliott could start

CCFC to win 2-0!

I'd like to see Conor Thomas have a run out, he's very promising, don't think he has the Vision yet?

McSheffrey Moussa Jennings Baker

McDonald/Elliot ROD

O'Donovan is the only striker we have who actually wins anything in the air.

Sheffers was crap today tbh committed yes but poor. Fleck should come in for him,Barton for bailey, then I think robins will put rod in

Also we're gonna have to think of a nick name for one of the Clarke's or it will get confusing.

not sure about mcsheffrey up front alone, our formation requires a player that can hold the ball up

Clarkey for Leon, Clarke for Jordan - he's just not cool enough!

He has done well last couple of games though, tbf to him. Still not as good as Fleck or Barton IMO.

Moussa up front for me with Barton/Baker just behind.

Fleck/Sheff on the wings.

I don't think we should rush Thomas too quickly.

Fair enough if DMC moves on, but after reading the Derby forum despite the county fans liking Bailey they say they've got 4 cm's ahead of him, so I can see no reason why they wouldn't let him come back till the end of the season

I can imagine Barton or fleck playing the DCM role, I imagine Barton will come in for Bailey but Moussa will drop back into that role and Barton will play behind either Elliot or ROD. There's no chance that either sheff or Moussa will play the lone striking role.

I reckon Thomas will come in for Bailey and ROD/Elliott for Mcgoldrick

It is going to be interesting playing with a short player as striker, he isn't going to be able to hold it up and bring others into play like Goldie does. We are going to have to play a lot more passes in behind the Dons back 4 and try and go down the flanks more to try and stretch the play

The same Thomas which has played 2 mins of competitive football in the last 4-5 months it will be Barton that comes in

Change the defence and put Wood up front.

Is it just me but Barton appears to be a luxury player and yet again today offered very little.
Thought when Fleck came on he looked the sharpest I've seen him so hopefully he'll make a start Sat.
MR faces a real dilemma with the strikers role and it will be very interesting to see his selection.
Based on the above I think the MK game will turn out to be a dour hard fought draw sadly.

Define what you mean by 'luxury' player?
Barton is a good player, he has ability and has shown glimpses in his kameos and shown it v Donny + Bury. If he gets a (justified, obviously) run in the team, I think he'll win over more fans, with all due respect (I don't kow how old you are) people who have watched football say, in the 80s still haven't gotten over the direct 4-4-2 days, they're gone and players like Barton offer a lot technically.

I think MK will be close, but we're unstoppable away so a W for me, if it were at home, however, I'd go with a draw or loss.

I agree, would you rather have a player like Michael Doyle who runs around a lot and looks 'busy' but can't pass to save his life or someone like Barton who can produce one moment of brilliance to win a game. We also have Jennings to do the dirty work

I believe that in a statement that MR gave he said that Adam has a different style of play than anyone else in the team so it looks like he doesn't do a lot but in actual fact he does more than we think, not sure how much more as he only gave away a couple of fouls yesterday but he's best placed behind front man just floating about but that still remains to be seen.

Bailey also does the dirty work, that's one of the reasons we've been so strong and Jennings has looked a better player - we have had 2 players in the centre of the park who work hard, press players and snap at people's ankles. Those 2 have then allowed the front 4 to do their stuff.

You need a balence if you're going to play a passing game and CB and CM.

Agreed, Bailey is predominantly defensive but his passes forward can split open a defence.

EDIT: anyone remember MK @ home? We struggled to keep the ball because Cameron nor Wood wanted to have the ball, thy passes it to each other or Murphy, this is why Edj is important to our game. That game the midfield were rubbish, Moussa was probably the worst culprit in the passing department... How times have changed lads!

Barton may well have natural ability but he rarely gets into the game, appears to lack commitment, never chases the ball once he has lost it, makes crucial mistakes in the centre of the pitch and for a big bloke his heading ability is non existent. He's a luxury in the team that we can't afford.
