Well it’s time for Lampard to earn his money then.

I think he’s already done that to get in the play offs with a team that has no decent forward

Yep, drop Wright.

Lampard needs to have a chat with Poch. He's fucking miles off that USA squad and they are hosting the World Cup next year.

Simms has to go toe for toe with O'Nein. He's fucking twice the size of him.

Simms would get bullied by Ronnie Corbett

Simms was useless against Boro, he never won a header all day. Definitely need to move him on in the summer

CBs double up on him and Sunderland’s CBs were noticeably wider apart as opposed to teams we’ve played in more recent weeks.

Even for Rudoni’s goal, Wright occupied 3 Sunderland players to let Rudoni bullet the header in.

Start the team thae same team that battered Sunderland 3-0 at home.

I meant central which I never see him as

I like Haji I think he’s a class act but his form has declined

Simms BTA and Bassette were awful signings

Don’t know why people think we need to go radical and play a team/formation we haven’t used before.

Stick to the 433, probably bring Simms back in and see where we are after an hour. We only need to win by 1 to force ET/pens.

Simms has to start on Tuesday night. When he plays the oppositions CBs play closer together.....last night there was a bigger gap between the CBs as they knew they only needed 1 of them to cover BTA. As a result their full back could be wider and that cuts out the space out wide

Desperate to hear your view on signing Binks for £2m+ too.

Again awful and is why we really can’t look at 3 at the back

We haven't won since March 1st away from home.
We had more joy in the preceeding couple of months playing 3 at back.

Not really radical to suggest reverting back.

That was with a goalie that could actually catch a ball though.

It would be insane to drop Wright.

So, drop Wright and put in the goal machine that is Simms? The player that hasn't scored since the 15th Feb?

The sensible answer is to replace BTA with Simms. You keep your top striker in.

Wright wasn't as much of a threat last night, for sure, but right at the end, the only thing that prevented a goal from him, was a brilliant block in the 6 yard box.

If there's a penalty, you want Wright to take it, not Simms.

Wright is our best striker. You play him.

At the moment Rudi is our best striker.

Then it isn’t a matter of formation, it’s a matter of instructions. We move the ball too slowly, then get impatient, make a bad decision and give away the ball.

For this to work we need to pass and move at pace.

The major issue is we don't have a classic number 10 who can break the lines when teams rock up with two banks of 4 and sit in. I love Rudi but he's clearly more suited to a role just off the striker rather than a classic 10 who drop in, receive the ball and then spin and play a killer pass. So it means Grimes picks it up, there's no options in front and it has to go wide where you just double the wingers.

Sheaf was also dreadful last night and can't play as an 8 who picks it up and drives with the ball.

Haji also doesn't play better on the left in this system - when he was an inside forward under robins it worked well - late runs to the back post, drifting inside. Lampard wants out and out wingers like EMC to stretch the opposition and beat their man. Whenever Wright comes up against a decent RB (Hume is very good) he packs it in early doors.

Pretty convinced that Wright came here hoping to use us as a gateway to something better in England. He has ability of sorts for sure but with our limited resources it can't just be seen once every 5/6 games. Front line is the big job for closed season. The next part of our project for me is to become a dominant Championship club aiming to look towards 3rd or 4th with a points total comfortably within the play offs. For that we need more firepower. Starting next season without him, Simms, BTA and Bassette would be a start

Sure but if he wants that he has to perform more often and convincingly than he is doing.

I think I'm ok with this now. Get a decent fee and see who else we can get in.
As i said in the match thread, I reckon a few of our strikers go in the summer.

Agreed. From a generational point of view, if we had to accept a bid for one of our 3 top assets, it would be him.
I think 2 of the 3 forwards go this summer.
I'd like to keep my optimistic hat on and say we'll make it to the prem and have our war chest.

The shape and personnel are irrelevant if you fundamentally struggle against teams that sit in front of you and wait for the counter. This team just can’t do it

Yes this is the main issue, we look fine against teams that have a go but struggle so hard against teams that sit back and let us have the ball. Reminds me of watching England a few years back. Very frustrating.

Those are the kind of games we miss an O'Hare type someone who can unlock a bit of space. Maybe a stretch but even a Palmer style wildcard could be a good addition to our squad. Less against Sunderland but he did have a knack of doing unpredictable stuff to see off teams that sat in on us.

Tuesday I'd be tempted to bring Simms back, he's been shit but is a focal point. BTA looked good V Boro because they were tired and stretched he's done nothing this season to suggest he's a target man. Use him as an impact sub

Is was actually wild to spend the entire season with the view that a forward isn't good enough to start, and then to start him in the most important match of the season so far. And it did not pay off.

whatever the team is we need to be a far more shrewd and skilled in the dark arts . Don’t care if it sounds cliched , Sunderland player pushed Wright and had a hold of him Wright put his arm around him and gave him a cuddle either push him back intimidate him or go to ground , Saka was manhandled in and around the box he carried on playing either honesty or naivety on his behalf , A Sunderland defender tried to swap shirts with Thomas before the game finished and nothing was done . Make the referee do something bookings or a pen would of made A difference

Too nice

I was actually thinking after the Boro cameo , that the coaches had worked their magic with BTA. Very sadly things haven’t changed & the player of reportedly £3 mill , is a very expensive bench warmer at best .
Let’s hope we can off load for some of that out lay ?

He isn't a target man, he was the wrong player for that role and it took Lampard far too long to work out

Thought he did well in a two when we were three at the back, if we’re going to swap it up I’d be tempted to give him and Wright a go in a 532.
