Lampard has access to more and better players than any other manager recently and yet we appear to be going backwards!!
what is going on with him if he can't utilise the wealth of riches we have, is he really one dimensional in tactics and approach? We have bought players in he's not using to good effect, so is his judgement off?
This is n't knocking him, just trying to understand what the fuck is happening to this team.

Because his limitations were exposed at Chelsea ( 2 nd time around ) and Everton. Maybe he can redeem himself but if he doesn't I can't see him being here next season. Under Robins we always seems to start slow and build momentum. This season we seem to be doing it the other way round.

Just seem to have lost our verticality to our play. Early season we were bringing the striker into play early and getting bodies around him. Recently we’re very slow in progressing the ball up the pitch. Also the number of touches attackers seemingly want to take - it’s not a surprise that we’ve gone from 2-3 touch football early in the season to 45 touch football now and our tempo has suffered.

Aside from that, what the boffins call “rest defence” has been (until yesterday) relatively non-existent. Our style and structure has left us quite easy to counter-attack. We seemingly decided not to do anything about it because of our prowess in creating good chances and scoring. Somewhere along the line we became far less clinical and are being punished. If you even think back to the Blackburn/Watford home games they were able to get through our midfield with ease.

Good spot,I noticed that change yesterday too...I think he tried it yesterday with the Middlesbrough game firmly in mind.
Woolfendon was bollicking MVE a fair bit yesterday for losing the shape required frequently.

Couple of people that were all over this kind of shit a few games back that have completely dropped off the face of the forum. Lampard is learning, last 2 games absolutely perfect.
Don't overlook the contribution by Onyeka that has allowed us to do this though. Some player.

Onyeka is a big difference , again felt lampard was too late with the subs .. rushworth made a great save right before the subs .. weve set up well last 2 games so no complaints there

He's also learning that the wingers we brought in didn't have the right training in giving cover so brought Saka back in who does while he trains his expectations in to them which is good stuff.

Coasted that today. Onyeka is a huge bonus for us, does the jobs nobody else in the squad find natural to do. There were a couple of iffy moments but it felt like total control and game management energy wise. WBA look lost and out of ideas, teams like Oxford and Pompey have more heart.

Part of me thinks that rather timid display against Oxford was all about having the rest of the team adjusted to a slightly different style ready for Onyeka.

Thats why I still would
have bought Onyenka on with 10-15 to go against Oxford but if it meant that Middlesbrough were unaware of what he would bring to our team then it may well have worked out for the best!

After today's results, imagine if we pick up 6 points next week... it might be unlikely but playing the way we have for the last 2 games, if it happens we are flying again!!!

Think we're trying to maximise the minutes we can get at the starting XI going full pelt before gradually bringing on fresh legs. Which will mean that in the last 5 minutes or so before we make changes, some players are getting close to their limit.

Cost us a goal on Monday but I don't mind it as a game plan.

I see it that we have a game midweek and felt like albion were having a spell , felt late and almost cost us again like against boro .

But i aint the manager and im merley giving an opinion , i just feel his subs are too late

I completely agreed with that assessment on Monday, definitely came a bit too late. Can see what the logic is behind it though

There was definitely a lot more discipline there, I don't think it's to do with Onyeka as such just addressing a problem. We're looking a lot better defensively, barely 2xG against us in the three games since..

There's a video post match SBT and they get a coach on who explains our tactics and you have to say albeit should have happened sooner certainly away from home that Lampard is a tactical genius. The performance today in comparison to Boro was like night and day. Let's be honest though that was so comfortable today they are fucking awful. Big effort needed Wednesday night even a point and then we beat Stoke I honestly think the momentum and confidence will be back to where we were and I cannot see anyone stopping us.

Couple of positives to mention for frank

6 wins off our most wins ever in a season

11 points off our best points tally since 3 points was introduced ( previous was league 2 season 75 )

19 points from having our best points return (if you convert 2 point season into 3 point )

Well not really it’s a silly argument. He’s clearly changed things due to us havingonyeka available.

I do really like this poster, but this is my favourite quote on this thread.

12th place trophy is in their hands though! It will be out of them or Preston for sure.

We didn't win away for almost 3 months and put in some dreadful performances away.
I'm not sure this is the gotcha you think it is.

But he’s got a point, we haven’t been as bad as some have made us out to be away, we were 1-0 up in most of the games we lost. Lampard realised what we were missing and went and got Onyeka, game changer, quick enough to jump on him so should give him the credit now he’s fixed it,

he needs to maintain this level for a while again to regain the plaudits. Our fall off was just too long.

The longest run we've had without a win is three games, this "fall off" is an exaggeration and ignores the great form shown by Middlesbrough particularly and Ipswich in that period.

Our record breaking form was never realistically going to continue indefinitely, a lot of people on here were saying in early December they'd be pleased to still be top by the turn of the year. We were, and we were still top by the end of January.

I've always been in the camp that we wernt playing that badly. Going ahead and then having lapses does indicate a better team than one that goes behind first and loses all time. I didn't bedwet and now things look better. It was what I expected.

People can say it's a terrible run etc but if you look at 2025 league form it's 3 wins 2 losses 1 draw? So for 6 weeks the form hasn't been too bad at all yet all we have heard is relegation form, will doug sack frank, is lampard good tactically, bottlers etc

It's not a gotcha or anything. I just feel like what I said made sense and it's proven to have gone the way I thought.
