Just for fun, here are firstly the top current 100 English + Welsh surnames, then Scottish ... anyone recognize their own name? Mine's Scottish, so doesn't appear in English/Welsh lists but makes top 70 north of border!

Any surprises in the lists? - Names not where you expected to find them, or some non-inclusion?

Try checking your surname here for seeing how many families with the same name live in each county of England & Wales:

the search facility is pretty good ...

By the way, at the top of the map where it says England-Wales, you can easily cue in Scotland to see how the name does there as well.

(By the way, I'm a Johnstone, and proud of it! - McDermott shows on the link 'cos I was checking out the Reading manager's name!)
