There's a dislike of Sheffield United primarily because in the SISU days, there was a protest at the Ricoh Arena during a match vs Sheffield United and the game got disrupted.

During the holdup, (i think) there was an altercation in the stands where a Cov fan went through the segregation and floored a Sheffield United fan.

Basically the Sheffield United fans saw the whole saga as a targeted effort to disrupt the game and scupper their promotion (which was never the case) and there has been a bit of bad blood ever since.

There's also been other minor issues such as two of our best players signing for them in recent years.... and their manager making some critical comments about CCFC.

I don't particularly mind them personally...... my one minor gripe would be the media's insistence that they have some kind of inhospitable fortress at Bramall Lane with a hostile atmosphere, when in reality its pretty tame (great away day though at both Sheffield clubs)

I have no qualms in saying i'll be supporting them on the 24th....!

Did not know that, thanks!

Bramall Lane is a good away day, easy to get to. I’d say its similar to your Fraser Plus Arena.

The bad thing about reading this thread is when Sunderland come down to the CBS next their fans are going to get picked off . Our idiots will be waiting, and someone is going to get hurt. It will be the same at the SOL.

Fraser Plus Arena.
Very funny.

Stadium of Light is a genuinely cringe worthy name for a ground, though. I remember hearing a recording of it being announced to a room of (presumably) press and supporters, and there being a very audible groan.

And why drop Rokerites as your nickname? You may not play in Roker any more, but it would retain your history. 'Black Cats', indeed!

Saw lots of weird stuff last night masquerading as 'banter'. Hilarious most of it. It was like Royston Vasey hight street on a Friday night. Best pre match entertainment since Sonia at Highfield Road.

On real incident was by the coaches after the game Small group of Sunderland fans goading city fans sucking on vapes before boarding the coach. Not surprisingly they got a reaction and there was a bit of a scrap. One Sunderland fan with two young girls got caught up in it and they were sobbing. Quite rightly he was furious, but naturally we got the blame. I can forgive him that, not a nice situation, but this is how it always is - it's always us and never them.

Still, most Sunderland fans are sound.
They are worst than the scousers. Always the victim. They forget about all the incidents involving Sunderland bell ends like throwing a flair into Wigan fans

Walked past the Wetherspoons (I think it was) in town first of all. Loads of boos and chants for having a Cov shirt on. Colliery Tavern next. Coventry police put out a tweet saying we could go there and there was about 200 Sunderland and about 10 Cov fans. We walked in, felt uncomfortable and walked out to chorus of boos and chants from Sunderland fans. Thought we'd go McDonalds and was even getting deathly stares all over in there. We then watched the coach parade and young lads were trying to intimidate the teenage lads I was with (great parade by the way), and a Cov fan walked over the road that the parade was on and got a drink thrown over him. Then we walked the short walk to the turnstiles and there was loads of Sunderland fans chanting Jimmys in a box with grown adults shouting it in teenage girls faces. Not a nice, friendly environment at all. Whether you choose to believe that is up to you (I'm assuming you won't).

The only positive was that I spoke to a Sunderland fan while watching the parade and he was a nice chap. Maybe that was you, who knows.
Have to agree with this. Walking back to the coach a bunch of mackems stood in the way of a cov fan in a wheel chair and then started shouting Jimmy in a box and telling him to fuck off back to Coventry. His wife looked like she was about to cry until a police officer came over and helped them get past.
Got to the coaches and there were a load of Sunderland hanging around the coaches banging on the coach windows shouting a use and trying to goad people into having a go.
Horrible bunch of fans. Hope Hamer smashes them at Wembley

the set up at Sunderland is a joke

coaches were targeted before and after

After the game we were sat there while fans goading banging windows and not one police officer in sight

Few fights but could have been a lot worse

terrible organisation and coaches didn’t leave Sunderland till midnight

And we moan about the cbs and getting out. Sunderland is miles worse
Most clubs give away coaches a police escort after to get them away. Not Sunderland it took us an hour to get away from there all the time having Sunderland fans shouting and banging on the coach windows. Reminded me of watching something from the walking dead

Lets face it, its no worse than being named after a photocopier manufacturer or building society.

Rokerites was never really used ever mate. We are simply mackems, rather ironic as half our support catchment area aren’t mackems, we are from Durham all the way to North Tees and South Tyneside. I’m a Sanddancer from south shields (hence Caer Urfa).

Best of luck to you lot next season, great club Coventry, nothing against the Fraser Plus arena mind, was just weird seeing that plastered absolutely everywhere. To be honest your stadium is absolutely s**t compared to Highfield Road which I loved going to.

I don’t think we got a choice in the matter because we don’t own the ground, never have.

Choosing the stadium to be named ‘Stadium of Light’, is cringeworthy and well worth plastering over with a tacky sponsorship name.

It isn't a name i'd have chosen, and its clearly a rip-off of Benfica....

But i remember the sense of disappointment when our ground was named the "Ricoh Arena"..... regardless of whether we got a choice or not, everyone would've preferred a proper ground name..... like The Gasworks which was probably the most popular choice at the time.

I was too young to care really, but shared your disappointment when RICOH were chose over Jaguar for the sponsor.

Jag Arena had a nice ring to it!

You'd have found plenty to agree with that up to recently.

It doesn't have the character, that's for sure, but it does generate an atmosphere we never really got at HR. Part of that is because we win more than we lose at the moment, but also partly down to acoustics, too.

HR was far more conveniently placed, though.

I used to work with a Sunderland STH in Southend who was a Sanddancer who used to attend games with another Sanddancer who lived in Cambridge. I have a mackem friend from Newton Aycliffe who used to live in London & we all went to watch Sunderland play in the fog at Southend in the late 90s when you were pushing for promotion to the PL. The 2 Sanddancers were talking so I asked my mate what they were saying & he said "No idea, I can't understand them either" 😂😂 I've never had any issue with the mackems, certainly not as self entitled as the Geordies

My old man was further along the Tyne, from Blaydon.
His family were all Newcastle fans, until some moved to Coventry and supported the local team.
The chat between our fans has often been shit or abusive so it has been refreshing to have your take on things.

Cheers Moff, I have absolutely nothing against Coventry fans at all haha.

Aye, Blaydon is proper Mag territory, wearing a Sunderland top round there won’t end well.
