Theres a difference about people constructively discussing a performance in match threads / ratings / social media and there are the knuckle draggers who just shout aimless nonsense from the stands and would cry if they got any back.

I tell ya what Nick next time you are at the match and you here some guy or guys shouting abuse towards the team or player,be my guest about shouting back at them but don't be surprised if you get some back too,it is part of the game rightly or wrongly, you take that away and you take the passion away and then you might as well stay away, why is everybody offended by everything these days, the average age of our team is 22 i think, even at 19 yrs you are an adult not a kid, saying that, some of those migrants that walked into this country posed as kids were clearly adults, and some even went to school.says a lot

It doesn't offend me, I just think it's pointless. Not too sure what migrants have to do with it as I don't think many of them have been playing for us. The only time it bothers me personally is if it is over the top and my daughter is there and I will ask them to chill out if it is uncalled for abuse. Thankfully only happened once or twice.

People can show passion without shouting abuse at players. There's a different between moans and groans if somebody misses or misplaces a pass and straight up abuse. (even more so their own team's players).

At Walsall in the cup game when Leahy got tackled by the side of the pitch there were about 15 City fans leaning over the side barrier screaming abuse at him (like the blokes were with Sterling, that kind of anger) and they were near enough above him. Is it any wonder he celebrates like mad when he scores the winner? I'd be over there giving them all sorts of shit if I scored the winner in added time after that just to watch people lose their heads and get offended by it.

Is that abusing our players and going over the top? I am not sure you are really understanding.

The thing about football is that most people who go are committed to one team or another, they go wanting their team to win, not just hoping for a good game. It is curious therefore, that some of these people, despite wanting their team to win, hurl abuse at their own players, making a winning outcome far less likely. There are lots of studies that show performance levels get better with encouragement and decrease with abuse. The irony is that the moron telling Shipley or Bayliss that they are crap, is almost certainly never likely to be anywhere near as good a footballer as they are or know as much about the game as they do.

So it is the fans fault for our club not being consistent enough, because they might yell abuse or you could say show a bit of passion towards the players and staff , which i might add you will see at any football match from grassroots to Professional you take that out of the game then whats the point,it has always been there and always will, its a mans game.man up

You get a 'like' for having the balls to use the term "man up". Especially in these verbal castrating times.

Where did it become about race or immigration?

Can we abuse a player more if he came over on a boat than if he was born here?

You were making it about immigration so I was trying to figure out what it had to do with our players?

You don't seem bright enough to figure out the sarcasm, it has done enough to prove my point.

Some fans are insane. I hope I’m not that bad. The fan at the emd of the penultimate one trying to have a fight. Coleman comes out as a nice man but incompetent as a manager

The camera getting punched away at Bristol city made me laugh. Some horrific abuse launched at the players from 'the best support in the country'.

Not really. Any footballer knows you get good and bad. If they get affected by the bad then they are in trouble

We said it before-you have to have a balance. Nothing wrong with having your say if a player hasn’t performed. Lets use Shipley as an example this season. He hasn’t been great so do we just tell lies and pretend that he is the best player on the pitch just to appease people and make them feel better? That’s just papering over the cracks I’m afraid.

I never have a problem with after-match comments tbh, nor a good hearty after-match boo if it's been a shocker. Does seem self-defeating to put the pressure on your own players during a match though, especially if singling some out in particular.

Players at our level earn £40-50k+ a year for, let's be honest, producing mediocre football in front of average crowds of 10,000. If they can't handle criticism from the stands for missing sitters or misplacing 5 yard passes there's plenty of people willing to have a go in their place.

Back to the documentary, just watched a bit and thought it is really poorly made. Lots of lazy edits of crowd scenes. Second game of the season when they win 3-0 at Norwich they cut to celebrating Sunderland fans clearly filmed at a home game. Another bit when Sunderland score at Carrow Rd they show Grayson leaping from the bench to celebrate at the Stadium of Light. Mind you, nothing can spoil the enjoyment of watching Sunderland get relegated.

There was some creative licence used with the scorelines too, or at least the suggestion of when players scored and how it affected matches. Fan made.

There's a difference between pretending he was amazing and shouting abuse at him from the stands.

There is indeed, but some also say that criticism doesn’t help? So on that basis we are not allowed to have a say.
