We should get Andrews to learn off Grimes as well.

Think Bidwell is finished tbh. But either way whoever stays is backup we need a better LB.

Priorities:
1) Starting LB. MVE-type with pace to burn who can defend solidly and support attacks.
2) Combative all-action midfielder. Ebou Adams showed exactly what we're lacking. A physical ball-winner with stamina and athleticism to get all around the pitch.
3) CB. Someone with a bit of pace. If we're going to play a high line we need to get quicker at the back.
4) RW and RB competition.

Let's face it , if we do go up we need a minimum of 8-10 players to have a modicum of a chance of survival

Ebou Adams doesn't get close to our 11, dunno why this forum is so big on him after one shite game at Pride Park tbh.

Got a feeling we move on Sheaf and Eccles this summer. Allen may actually get a new contract, probably deserves one more than other players that have got one recently.

If we are after that sort of player , then depending on how the season pans out ie. we go up and the blades don't , then Vini Souza always impresses me

Thought fun to have a quick look to see if I could find players for this.

Assuming we are playing in the championship next season.

1) Owen Beck - Out of contract at Liverpool next season so might be willing to sell. 22 years old. 82% for dribbles per 90, 91% for successful, 83% for crosses and 90% for successful. Got some pace to burn and also good defensively, would probably be a big cost but seems to fit the mould for a Lampard full back.

https://footystats.org/players/wales/owen-beck

2) Alfie Devine - 20 years old. Depends on Tottenhams plans but thinking for a long term Jamie Allen ball winner. Playing currently in the Belgium first division. Manages 2.5 tackles a game, 11KM per match and 1.5 interceptions. Safe on the ball as well. Could be a great engine in our midfield. Would think a loan could be a good shout as well if not a perm.

3- Harry Darling. Out of contact CB. Won’t lie about pace but the real stats to look at are his defence and passing. Top 95% for passes and successful passes also 86% for expected assists. Defending wise, good numbers for Ariel duels, shots blocked and clearances. Also knows a few of the lads here which is always a plus and can play either right or left.

Feel like as it stands you’ve sort of got a 6/8/10 with Grimes/Sheaf, Allen/Eccles, Rudoni/Torp with their best positions. So I think if Sheaf goes you need a more defensive playmaker replacement than a box to box.

Sheaf goes you probably will need an understudy for Grimes as you say. Don’t think it’s beyond the realm of possibility we see both Eccles and Sheaf going

If a CM is likely to be sold this summer, it’s probably Eccles. His value hasn’t gone down and imo, he’s the odd one out of the CM cohort under Lampard.

In Lampard’s 4-3-3, we attack in a 3-2-5 shape and because Grimes drops back, there’s a lot of space between the CMs and the CBs. With this in mind you either need a ball winner or someone who will never stop running (or an Kante who does both) so that competition is between Sheaf and Allen with our current personnel.

In theory, most people would like to see Rudoni-Grimes-Torp. Torp has developed the defensive side of his game well this season and Rudoni is a high energy CM. My doubt is that because Rudoni is so involved in our build up play, he won’t perform the ‘Allen role’ as well. So if Torp is dropping back, he doesn’t cover as much distance as Allen nor is he better at winning the ball back as Sheaf.

We’ve got good variety because you can have multiple combinations in that 3 man midfield.

Who would you be confident could step up if we were promoted? Dovin MVE Haji for sure. Grimes Torp Rudoni EMC possibly, Sheaf? Thomas? Sakamoto?

If we got promoted, we have to look at it like a 2-4 year project. Accept that we’ll probably get relegated first time around but sign the quality needed to future-proof the team for 2-3 seasons to bridge the gap.

Dovin , MvE and Wright are good enough . One of our starting centre backs but would need a quicker partner . EMC and Rudoni have the potential too but would worry about Grimes and Torps physicality.

You don't chuck the whole squad upon promotion, some would have to make the step, now i'm not saying all these would start but i'd imagine all of Dovin, Thomas, Kitching, MvE, Grimes, Rudoni, Torp, Wright, EMC, Sakamoto would play a part. Possibly a couple of others too.

Think Kai Andrews will be in and around the first team next year if we don’t go up, which would be a bonus meaning we could prioritize other areas which need strengthening.

Lets be realistic if we went up the likes of

Dovin,
MVE
One of Kitching and Thomas
Grimes
Sheaf (If he stays)
Rudoni
Wright

Would all be starting week in week out. We couldnt afford to upgrade them, the money would be better spent on upgrading other positions and depth.

Realism is definitely the key if we do go up. Financially it isnt worth going up and spending millions on players for the small chance of staying up. Of course we need reinforcements to compete but not to the long term detriment of the clubs finances.

Someone like Josh Sargent from Norwich could be worth pursuing if we get promoted and presumably Norwich don't get anywhere near. Already having Haji could be a helping factor

Release list.

Taveres
Burroughs
Howley
Collins
Allen (dependant on his performances from here)

Sold

Eccles or sheaf
Simms (I think we will get rid of 1 striker and I don't think it will be either of wright or Bassett)

Needed

Right back (for back up comp and move rest days)

Left back (need a proper #1 left back and get rid of da Silva)

I think also we will need a new winger either a star or a back up that can fill both sides.

This depends on whether we get promoted. Personally I would offer Allen an extension and look to sell BTA over Simms

Yes: Dovin, Grimes, Rudoni, Haji

On a good day: MVE, Sheaf, Kitching

Probably good Championship Torp, EMC, Tats, Thomas

After that they are average Championship

If we went up there would be a lot of business needed, if we dont just some tinkering.
If we dont:
RB (backup)
LB (Starter)
CB (Starter)
CM (backup)
RW (backup)

If we do:
All of the above
ST (backup)
LW (backup)
CB (Starter)
CDM (backup)

You’ve got to spend big and try and stay up IMO. Look at Luton, there’s no guarantees you are strong when you come back down.

Get a few key players in along the spine and a couple of loans at least. I’m not convinced you should be building a championship all stars team as most players are there for a reason.

Think it’s a bit of a trap as there are players like Delap who can step up but it takes time which newly promoted sides don’t have as it’s a baptism of fire.

Think you need to get an experienced spine in to get the levels up. I think we have a few that could step up but don’t know if they could without the proper support.

As a positive, we have a manager now who has survived before and should therefore know what it takes.

If FL is here during the summer he will improve this squad, without doubt He has more than gained trust of the money men and will make decisions that are best for the club. If he can do what he has done with what he has inherited imagine what she can do with getting his own in.

The most impressive thing for me so far is his player evaluation which has surprised me because i thought he was a good media guy, big name and was respected within the game. But never expected how quick and how good he has been at observation of players and how he has the players adapting to his philosophy. I think he will bring in young high energy, positive athletic players. He has already got a back bone to build around if championship football is where we are playing.

Dovin, MVE, Kitching, Thomas, Grimes, Torp, Rudoni, EMC, Tatsu, Wright will be those he will try to build around. Wilson, Allen, Bidwell will be his go to players in leadership roles off the pitch. Anyone not mentioned will be discussed and a decision of keep, let go or loaned out will be made. From that point the areas of need will be brought in. I would assume those plans are already been decided on amd some actioned on.

Exciting times.....

You basically need an entire new spine after getting promoted. Championship CBs aren't quick or smart enough, CMs aren't athletic or good enough on the ball, and strikers need to be athletic, elite finishers.

People forget that Forest, Brighton and Brentford stayed up by being defensive, hard-to-beat cloggers. They didn't go up and immediately try to play teams off the park. They spent money getting stronger in the key positions.

If we did go up, we have two players I would be happy remaining as starters. Dovin and MVE. The rest I would have no qualms if we tried to sign improvements for. Even Haji and Grimes.
