As one window closes, speculation about the next one opening begins.

Like shopping while hungry, I find thinking about squad rebuilds on the back of two defeats to superior opposition a great idea, and thought I’d start the discussion from a sound fact based foundation. On that note, here’s a GIMOC post:

MVE will be off. Club thought he was off in Jan but didn’t meet our valuation

Can certainly see Sheaf out the door too. That will accumulate to 15 - 18 mill of funds also Vik windfall of another 6-8 mill. That’s around 25 mill with a few others leaving. I can see another summer of mass movement

hopefully this time round it’s quality over quantity with a couple loans thrown in too

Assuming this is true, and we had a fat chunk available in the summer. Who would you hire and fire?

We need more quality squad depth that doesn't cost a bomb

We've so many 1st team players unavailable ATM it's hard to gauge how we'd be doing if the entire team were fit

Losing MVE and Sheaf would be disastrous and set us up for failure from the outset. It would be incredibly difficult to recruit a top 6 team without them.

Should Wright leave too, it would be time to start protesting against the ownership in my opinion

In all seriousness do think the outs are realistic values. And I think Lampard will want to to fill out the squad. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Summer 23 levels of turnover

Id hope we can keep Wright another year mostly cos of his injury and the fact he’s on a longer contract.

I think so. Might get a bit less for MvE or Sheaf and a bit more for the others, we did get £1m for Kasey Palmer with a year left. But overall £25m ish seems reasonable for the result of a new manager clear out.

Just took a look back at their 4th, JDS totally inept with any semblance of basic defending, he has got to go in the summer.

Just having a look. Think we’ll only target one CB in the summer.

Feel Thomas is a good back up/ Third option. Kitching is so far seemingly a good starter and Binks I think could develop further (only first permanent year) and even if we wanted to think he’d only go on loan next year.

Would look at Darling on a free to replace Lati. Great thing with Darling is he can play both right and left side Cb so can fill in across the back line.

You don't live in the real world. Players and the agents whispering on their shoulder have their say, the club is at the mercy of many competing influences and a wholesale clear out is a good way to destabilise the club.

It's far too early to bother with this line of thought, better to do something productive instead.

I get your view and may prove right but right now, I disagree.

MVE - loveable character and rapid but he is a very average RB or RWB. His positional sense is poor and relys on pace to recover. He loses the ball all the time. For 2-4M we can buy much more consistent RBs IMO.

Sheaf’s injury prone. Can barely get 25 games out of him. Time he goes too.

MVE - sold (hopefully £10M
Sheaf - sold £5/6M ? (Assuming he wants to go and doesn’t sign a new contract, assuming the club will offer him one)
JDS - sold. Poor player
Eccles - sold. Not convinced Lamps likes him
Tavares? Sold probably
Allen? Either released or 1 year deal

The big one for me is Wright. Key player for us but very valuable. It will depend if he is happy to stay another year.

What’s Lamps thinking about Simms?

For me, Grimes signing was a very intelligent one which gives me hope the club know what they are doing and what this squad needs.

Don’t agree with this. Understand the concern of losing key players but if we are to develop we need the money especially in the case of Sheaf who is out of contract next summer.

We know Doug will reinvest the funds in a similar manner and replace the players. With a lot more of the squad built up. We could imo target real quality this summer

Reading between the lines and some of our bigger players who’ve been here a few seasons will defo be off.

Out:

Collins
Wilson
Lati
Binks
JDS
Eccles
BTA
Sheaf (£s)
MVE (£s)
Wright (£s)

Expect about £40m+ with Vik money as well in the summer.

That gives Frank a decent kitty to build the squad to the next level (if we’re still in the Champ)

In an ideal world. Probably won't happen:

Incoming
x2 RB (MVE replacement) + a loan. Possible one that can play RCB if needed.
X2 CB (Replacement for Binks and Lati)
LB (to compete with Bidwell)
CDM (Sheaf replacement)
CM (Eccles replacement)
ST (We need better than Simms / BTA)
RW (Someone to compete with Sakamoto)

Outgoing
Bassette - loan
Raphael - loan
BTA - sell
Lati - sell
Collins - dustbin
Eccles - probably going
JDS - sell
MVE - will be sold
Sheaf - will be sold
Binks - sell
Wright - ? (Sneaky feeling he might want a move away given the world cup)

If we’re working on the assumption that Ewijk and Sheaf go and Gyokeres also moves on my shopping list would be:
Two RB’s
1 very good CH (biggest outlay)
1 LB capable of playing ahead of Bidwell
1 midfield

Anything else based on plugging outgoing gaps

Wilson's contract will probably be extended. He's a good presence to have around the squad plus he won't be on massive wages I wouldn't have thought. More expensive to bring another replacement in and it's not a priority.

I think it’s doable though if you look at other teams. Some will be cheaper, maybe the odd free, some will be more expensive. But if you can get Grimes for 3.5-4m you can get a quality CM for £5m and a quality CB for £4m and they’re the main signings. I’d want lots of choice up front so we can switch things up and keep it fresh. I think £3m spent wisely abroad can get you a pacy RW and a number 9 who can hold the ball. Most of the rest are back up and prospects. I’d be looking at PL academy cast offs mostly.
