Exactly my thoughts, been banging this drum since midway through last season, you get an injury to Sheaf or Eccles and our midfield is weak considering we’re a team pushing for promotion. The midfielders do a lot of the donkey work and if the transition between defence to attack isn’t firing on all cylinders then we’re going to struggle to score goals again.
We don’t have that midfielder who can really make things happen urgently or when under pressure. We still need to replace the hole left by Hamer imo, it’s a big ask on our budget but by hook or by crook we need do something about it.
Take the two best midfielders out of any side and it weakens them. We were obviously trying to strengthen with Stamenic so I imagine we’re now pursuing plans B, C and D. We’ll get someone in. But if we don’t you still have Allen, Torp and even Rudoni. No panic
I don’t think anyone’s panicking, there’s loads of time left in the window. I just think that apart from Torp, those who are left on the bench (Palmer, Allen etc) aren’t good enough if we’re pushing for promotion, it’s just papering over the cracks if we get any serious injuries in midfield.
We maybe waiting for other deals to happen before moves are confirmed like we saw with Dovin. We could do with Gyokeres and Hamer money coming in soon. Things will happen, as we're still weak in some areas.
Also with the youth you can't let them go out until you know you don't need them? However Mark Robins has said he wants them to have the full pre season here. Which I assume is around, training, fitness, coaching and gauging where they are at.

We have had 4 out and 4 in, so, assuming no more leave we need at least another 3 in to have the depth MR has consistently said he wants. For me they have to be:
Experienced CB
Gus style CM
Nippy ST
I would like one more in midfield but I don't think we'll get it.
And any in comings might go right down to the wire if we are waiting on the Gus/Vik money.
There is always a danger that you miss out and end up short.

Exactly, it's like some were raising questions over Allen getting minutes in the friendlies, in an ideal world he would be replaced and moved on but until that happens we need to do the right thing as a club, for both us and him and get him upto speed in case he's called upon.
I think we could definitely do with the following:
CB - I think we do need an experienced head to help, all of our centre halves are quite young really
RB - I have changed my mind on this. If we want to go up we need better than Burroughs. @BlueSkiesForever has convinced me
CM - I think we could do with two if we can ship out Palmer. A 6 and another 8
CF - we definitely need to replace Godden
RW/LW - need someone who can cover either wing. A couple of injuries and we are putting square pegs into round holes again

TBF we’ve got a couple of injuries on the wings and still have Saka and EMC playing there.

the question goes back to the other day. of course we need more in depth but if the right isn’t out there we won’t be getting many more in. That’s not being negative either, it’s just that we haven’t got much left funds wise and wages a factor too people forget this

Seems like a sensible position to me. Unless we get a lot of injuries id not expect him to play an awful lot and he's perfectly capable to play that kind of role in the squad at what i'd expect to be reasonable wages.
Ideally we could bring in someone that can play up front and either side
Remember Simms was devastating at times last season, playing on his own up front. Him with 2 out of 3 (Wright, Saka and EMC should be fun, with Tavares, new addition in the mix too - will be exciting, especially with Rudoni just behind them.
I think unless Vik or Gus move on we won’t be doing much more business apart from an odd loan. I suspect the needed CM and ST will be dragging on most of the window as we are waiting with a list of players in Camp A (preferred more expensive signings based on incoming funds) and Camp B (cheap, free or loans in the event neither get sold).

I for one ain't underwhelmed by Bernede, I've said it many times he looks a real talent and would be perfect for our style of play, came through the PSG academy and played for RB Saltzburg hes definitely got talent, in the article I read it said we've had 'Several discussions with his entourage' which means we didn't have a quick chat and then off we popped.
I hope we've convinced him of a move to a top quality team who's been knocking on the door to the prem for a while, who's style of play is exciting and who's ambition this season is to finally achieve promotion to the best league in world football! I hope since the link surfaced that's happened and we've agreed a price for him and hell be on his way for his medical this week
