Its exactly that. For the right player, it makes sense.

A lot of fans on here are going to have to get their heads around the fact that if we want the types of players that are good enough to compete and keep us in the PL, we wont be looking at players happy to be paid £5-15k a week. It honestly wouldnt surprise me if the vast majority of this squad haven't got huge pay rises written in to terms and conditions of promotion in their contracts. So somebody like Tats that is probs now on around £10k will most likely jump to around £15-20k id guess. £5k wont be the starting point for wages of PL quality players (Rushworth as a fringe/development PL player will be on more than that) like it is in the Championship. £20k will be. So the higher earners (such as Haji) that are on approx £20k will be now the base level kind of wages. It wouldn't surprise me to see higher earning players on £40k. Thats still relatively low for PL.

Whilst im not saying we have a squad full of £200k a week players, if also do think for the right player, we could maybe stretch the bank a bit. And for somebody like Manuel Nueur, who is looking at retirement, could be tempted for one last season at 50% of his current wage. Like I said. £150k a week to retirement is £0. A 50% pay cut would see him earn £75k a week more than he would at home pruning his roses. And if we would be happy to spend £15m on a GK transfer fee, PLUS his wages, why couldnt we scrap the fee, and use that in wages instead? For the right player, it could honestly be the difference between staying in the PL or being a parachute team back in the championship.

Again, im not saying we will in a million years sign Nueur. But he is a good example of what I mean by a free player, on higher wages, that would certainly make a huge impact to the team and the club would earn back those wages ten-fold if that player kept us up.

The Average weekly wage is any where between £67 and £88000, The average weekly wage spend after transfer fee has the biggest single correlation to where your team finish in the table. Thats why its so rough to stay up when you get promoted, you can offer someone who might be a free agent 50K a week and someone will offer more. Recruitment team are going to have to justify their wages this summer.

Tyler Dubbling can't get into the Everton side maybe they might send him out on loan
Tyler Dibling can't play anywhere that isn't Southampton.

Left Saints academy for Chelsea - Immediately got homesick and came back after 3 months.
Signed for Everton - Moyes doesn't play him and comes out saying he needs time and has to build his confidence.

For clarity the scouting team that brought in everyone after King came in is not the one that was here before (coincidence they left just before King took over). Hamer, Sheaf, Gyokeres, O’Hare, etc were all Badlan. Austin is MvE, Wright, Simms, Kitching, EMC etc
Or as they are otherwise known - the team that is getting promoted.

Oh yes, just a couple of years or even one?

Doug is keeping it a secret so my contracts thread doesn’t tip off the other clubs.

Couple of outlets linking is with 18 year old Chelsea Academy striker Jesse Derry this morning. By sheer coincidence, when I asked AI yesterday who our realistic signings might be Derry was the first name it spat out. So despite knowing nothing about the lad I now demand the immediate signing of Jesse Derry or I'm going to be furious 🙃🤨🧐

AI spat that out as we were linked to him two days ago

Genuinely can’t see it. I know as a club we focus on younger talent but signing a striker with no minutes in the premier league on a loan seems madness.

Hope if Lampard was there to discuss or look at signings, it would be for someone like George

Can’t see us signing George when we signed Markelo.

I hope this Markelo signing is a different gravy and not just another Bassette signing. Makes no sense when he’s hardly played and we had Yang as an option if he’s not got the ability to make the step up, time will tell but I’d rather have waited, kept Yang on the bench and then tried for George

Markelo I feel is seen as a big talent, we didn’t want to slip through our fingers.

Doubt it was planned as you’ve mentioned we brought in Yang but was seen as a last chance before he signed elsewhere.

Either way, imagine EMC will be our starting left winger as opposed to Markelo. But on the point, Chelsea have a few others I’d prefer us to look at. Even on strikers, would prefer us to look at Guiu for example over Derry

Any of our top players could be tempted away. we won’t be paying the wages they’ll be offered. would like to think theyd have a crack keeping us up though, can see wright leaving

Some fans will swallow any rumour and speculation banded about. The World Cup traditionally stagnates the transfer market until after it is over. It also has a knock on effect for lower league clubs. So I am not expecting anything anytime soon.

One or two on here have mentioned Delap ( not a fan myself) . Chelsea will only sell not loan him. They have a huge debt which will get worse if they miss out in a CL place. They need to sell players.

Might be wrong on this but I think Markelo’s preferred position is RW and cutting in, whereas George prefers to play off the left. It could work - not to be confused with that being our plan!
