I think we’ll see a much more counter based 3-4-3 in the prem. I agree in that I think Wright could thrive with his pace and ball control in tight areas.

But my big concern with him in that system is his hold up play. Seems at times him and Simms struggle to make the ball stick which would allow us to break at pace.

Simms did this well at Portsmouth away.

you think we will play 3 at the back?

I think we’ll play a mix to be honest.

4-2-3-1 at home and 3-4-3 away from home or in tougher matches. Kinda like we have done sparingly this season or last season under Lampard.

I know he's probably way out of reach but a striker like Solanke would be ideal for the way we play and the amount of balls we put into the box

Whilst im not suggesting this is going to happen, or that its even on the cards. To suggest that getting one of the best goalkeepers at the very highest of levels of all time for £8m (which let's be honest, isnt necessarily what he would be asking just because its what hes on now. Hes actually weighing up retirement. £8m to retirement is £0m. £8m to say 50% of that for one last season is £4m.)

Even if it stays at £8m, we need to sign a keeper for next season. We cant throw Dovin straight back in in the PL. Wilson wont cut anything higher than 3rd choice. We need at least 1 keeper signed, if not 2. £10-15m for a new keeper, plus £1-2m in wages, is still a lot more than £8m in wages for the very much tried and tested Nauer.

I'll never understand why so many on here get so hung up on "high wages" of players as an immediate reason to not sign them. Without actually putting a bit of thought in to it and looking at it from a different angle. And a free signing on £8m who we all know is more than qualified is definitely a good shout if we fail to sign Rushworth permanently (who none of us know how he'll get on at PL level).

Also, if he keeps us up next season in the same way that Rushwworth has saved us numerous points this season, then yeah.... £8m would be an absolute fucking bargain!

Massive wages could upset the squad harmony if one person is on £100k a week more than anyone else

Not a chance he comes. He turned down PL interest to go back to the team he supports.

I think he'd be good but you're right. There's not too much else I'd consider from the SPL these days. Wouldn't say no to Raskin, 100% leaves Rangers in the summer.

I’d throw £20m at him, and £5m at Wood, then thats your attack sorted really, loan in a winger then turn to the rest of the squad, if we can sell Simms and BTA for say £15m its only a £10m net spend

Yeah, because Ben Wilson who's won L1 and Championship promotion and the Championship golden glove should definitely be earning the same as Manuel Neuer who has won numerous Bundesliga titles, played in the champions league (finished runner up numerous times), has over 100 caps for his country including WC runners up medals, made Ballon d'OR dream teams, won "worlds best goalkeeper" on 5 occasions, won "worlds best goalkeeper of the decade", 2 decades in a row.... I could go on. Yeah, for fairness, let's pay him less and use the difference to top up Ben Wilson and Luke Bell so they dont feel left out

Its exactly that. For the right player, it makes sense.

A lot of fans on here are going to have to get their heads around the fact that if we want the types of players that are good enough to compete and keep us in the PL, we wont be looking at players happy to be paid £5-15k a week. It honestly wouldnt surprise me if the vast majority of this squad haven't got huge pay rises written in to terms and conditions of promotion in their contracts. So somebody like Tats that is probs now on around £10k will most likely jump to around £15-20k id guess. £5k wont be the starting point for wages of PL quality players (Rushworth as a fringe/development PL player will be on more than that) like it is in the Championship. £20k will be. So the higher earners (such as Haji) that are on approx £20k will be now the base level kind of wages. It wouldn't surprise me to see higher earning players on £40k. Thats still relatively low for PL.

Whilst im not saying we have a squad full of £200k a week players, if also do think for the right player, we could maybe stretch the bank a bit. And for somebody like Manuel Nueur, who is looking at retirement, could be tempted for one last season at 50% of his current wage. Like I said. £150k a week to retirement is £0. A 50% pay cut would see him earn £75k a week more than he would at home pruning his roses. And if we would be happy to spend £15m on a GK transfer fee, PLUS his wages, why couldnt we scrap the fee, and use that in wages instead? For the right player, it could honestly be the difference between staying in the PL or being a parachute team back in the championship.

Again, im not saying we will in a million years sign Nueur. But he is a good example of what I mean by a free player, on higher wages, that would certainly make a huge impact to the team and the club would earn back those wages ten-fold if that player kept us up.

Exactly this. So many people on here like to look ITK and like they know EVERY footballer ever to sign a contract in the lifetime of football. Look how many wrote FTT off as shit and not the type of player we needed, most of which having probably never actually seen him play a game, just assuming as he wasnt good enough for Brentford, he wouldnt be good enough for us!
If Frank, Doug, and Austin think hes good enough, then hes ok for me.

Nice article

How bad analytics built a Tottenham team that might get relegated

Tottenham are really bad and looking at the way this team has been constructed, one thing clearly stands out: This team is really bad at passing the ball, and that may explain their present malaise.

Simms and Wright both struggle holding the ball up

Brobbey did it fantastically well for Sunderland against Spurs the other day, that's the kind of striker we need

Because we are going to the PL and he's 18 year old who has played just 33 mins of first team football in his career both in the FA Cup. They are only the two times he's made a first team match day squad. He isn't a max dalman banging on the managers door with his performances to get regular match day squad experience and some first team action.

We've seen enough PL youngsters dropping down to the championship and league one, and when it is their first loan they are usually nowhere near the level, so there's no way I want us to sign an 18 year old in the PL we their first loan. Waste of a loan signing.

I believe this is purely paper talk anyway, like I said we got linked with 5-6 Chelsea youngsters last summer and it was just lazy journalism.

However if you can find any examples of 18 year olds going to PL on loan for the season for their first ever loan after just 33 minutes of first football and being successes over the last 5-10 years I'll happily change my mind.

So by your logic you would have turned your nose up at Dowman before he had played a good amount of premier league minutes. The lad at Liverpool Rio has only played a handful of minutes and he come on against PSG last night and looked brilliant. Derry could be the next Foden or he could be in non league in 5 years but the point is we don’t know. If Lampard and co think he’s up to it then I’d back them, they’ve done a pretty good job so far.

I probably say it’s more likely Frank was looking at other targets if he was there to scout than Derry.

Especially when you consider the source.

Yes I probably would. There is a difference between a club blooding their youngsters in a safe environment, choosing when and when to play them - Ngumoha and Dowman, than throwing them in a side who's going to be struggling and spend most of the time out of possession.

Dowman has only made 4 appearances in the league and Ngumoha is being used sparingly too. They have the luxury to do that as they have squads packed with talent.

Yeah more than likely there’s nothing in it, but my point is we shouldn’t turn our nose up because he hasn’t broken into a billion pound Chelsea team.

Cole Palmer had already made 41 first team appearance for Man City, playing 1.5k minutes scoring 6 goals and 2 assists across all competitions before moving to Chelsea. He hadn't just played 33 mins in the FA Cup
