Summer transfer rumours (24 Viewers)

He badly need to play after his injury, there is no way he'll be no.1 and there is no point sticking him on the bench. A loan to a top end Champ club would be wise. He'll get game time and worse comes to the worst and we go straight back down we'll have a keeper with proper league experience

Why not keep him around as number 2? I think that's perfectly reasonable

They sell him for decent money if he proves himself for a year in the prem with 1 year left.

And he says no thanks I’ll wait until next season.

Still think Tanaka and Onyeka would be a damn fine partnership for a newly-promoted team.
Don't you reckon they are both a bit slight to be paired in the Prem? I know Tank is not shy of putting it about but you see what other teams have in size and athletic ability nowadays.

Tanaka is great mind, would love him here, brings so much energy. Stach was an inspired signing for Leeds, proper unit but handy enough on the ball. Would love to find similar

The narrative that a load of 5-6m transfers won’t keep us up is bizarre. A player is not defined by their price tag. Most top players will have been sold for a fee in that region at some point. We’ve just got to find them. That is the precise model employed by the likes of Brighton, Bournemouth, Brentford. We need to recruit well, not expensively.

You aren't getting PL experience on the cheap though. Much better value abroad

There needs to be a blend. There will need to be a blend of first choice and squad players who have had Prem experience. We’ve got to trust at least a good group who took us up and supplement that.

1-2 good Prem players with experience would be great, and a handful from across the rest of Europe would be great.

My view is that we’ll go up and come down band staying up is probably another 2-5 season project. Personally, I wouldn’t mind that for a few seasons if we managed to stay up eventually.

With torp in front or a transitional position for Rudoni?
Rudoni I would definitely have as a rotation for AM.

Torp, no. He's just not got the physicality and he struggles with 90mins at Champ level. He'll be knacked within half an hour. He's got great technique striking a ball but is that enough to warrant a spot in a PL squad? I don't think it is and I'd be looking at other options for AM.

£5-6m barely buys you a championship starter these days. And you’d need a much better scouting system than we’ve got to consistently find players undervalued by that much.

Delap on loan would be perfect, Chelsea have already ‘signed’ Emegha from their feeder club Strasbourg so Delap will be even further down the pecking order. He was brilliant for Ipswich in the premier league. Great at holding the ball up and getting them up the pitch, similar to Gyokeres was for us. Not sure how realistic it would be.

Wouldn’t be surprised if McKenna went back in for him.

Yep he fits the bill, I'd imagine we'd have a lot of competition for him if they made him available for loan and zero chance of they want to cash in though.

Also think he might want a different challenge other than a newly promoted team tipped to struggle like he already experienced with Ipswich

It does actually. Without dipping into any other championship club and who starts for them i can throw in Thomas, MVE, Grimes, Sakamoto, Simms, Torp, Rudoni, BTA, Kitching, Dovin, Mason-Clarke. Our scouting system seems fine to me. I just think the correlation between huge fees and success is a myth. It’s certainly necessary when you are one of the mega rich clubs who want to contest the title and Europe but it isn’t necessary for us, or a lot of others.

You think the market economy is a myth?

Yeah. Nearly 8m in wages for 1 season is a bargain 🤥
I mean I was joking, but if it was an option, the type of profile a signing like that would bring to the club would be worth its weight in gold, and he would be an elite performer who we know can perform at the highest stage, which could win us points. Rushworth on fhe other hand is totally unproven at premier league level, despite being a top class operator at championship level

No I don’t. But I also have no idea what it has to do with identifying £5-£6m players before they become £25m and then £75m players. There’s only one factor that pushes that value up and that’s being proven. Gyokeres is a prime example. All I’m saying is we need to be in on the first rung and maybe in a couple of cases, the second.

What pushes their value up is competition for their signature. That happens because multiple clubs have identified them as good enough for their needs at the level they play at. To beat that market you need a scouting team that can spot what others with more money cannot. There is no evidence we have such a scouting team.

Second to Lampard getting something extra from the group the prime reason we’re actually going up is identifying Gyokeres and Hamer for peanuts and selling them on. There’s plenty of evidence our scouting is fine.

That scouting team isn’t here any more.
