Well if he doesn't go there he will go to celtic. Anybody who thinks we have a genuine chance to sign him is beyond delusional

So nothing signed and only going there if they stay up. Basically just a rumour then.
I definitely don't fantasize over footballers pal.
If we aren't paying our top earner around £80k a week next season we might as well do a Luton and just accept we are going down. If you want Premiership quality and have any chance of staying up we will have to pay the wages.

Tell doug then. We don't pay more than 25k currently. We won't be paying any players 80k a week. If we go down we risk being in trouble financially again using your ideas.

It literally says he won’t join them if they’re relegated.

Looks like the beeb aren't worried about Millwall's GD- back where we belong:

Football gossip: Ugarte, Casado, Junior Kroupi, Piroe, Rushworth, Monga

Newcastle want Manchester United's Manuel Ugarte, Liverpool face a battle with Chelsea for Eli Junior Kroupi, plus more.

Surely all the players that are under contract that we keep will get an increase? Just like there are clauses in most PL teams players' contracts that they will face a reduction of wages in case of relegation there must be a similar clause for promotion

The other problem is signings. If you bring in a player you typically pay say over 3 years to the selling club. With PL finances only guaranteed for a year that makes for difficult decisions. Presumably selling clubs would want more/all money up front? If you can't pay wages in the long run then you end up selling cheap but if you can't pay debts it's points deductions and worse. King will have to be conservative on both angles.

Not really. If we get a slug of £150m (I think it’s broken into 2 instalments during the season) then we could theoretically spend the £150m on fees over 3 years and keep £100m of it in the bank to cover the instalments. Really not that alien a concept.

For reference, I don’t think we’ll spend £150m.

And I don't think a £25k wages ceiling will exist in the EPL

Who? People seem to be advocating we spend nothing in case of what? We sign a load of crap we can’t get rid of? We put players on £80k/wk with no relegation clauses?

If we trust King and Austin not to be completely incompetent then there’s nothing to worry about. The clubs like Leicester an Sheff Wed people are worried about are extreme cases with extreme owners. They aren’t a reason to hobble any chance of staying up an earning tens of millions extra. Why even go up if that’s the case?

Sheffield utd, West Bromwich, I'm not curtailing anything here, but no going to Macquarie's too get a loan against future payments from the parachute.

And this is the main problem teams are having. Macquaries and MSD are legalised loan sharks. Madness to approach them

I’d put this very much under “shite management” alongside silly wages with no release clauses. There’s a million ways to fuck a club over but “spending the money given to you to make your club competitive” isn’t one.

No one is saying we won’t spend anything or give it a go. It’s more tempering expectation that we’re going to suddenly start paying people £80k a week. We’ll spend some money. King won’t let it get out of control. But I don’t think we’ll see many established prem names arrive.

Or on the other hand spending money and not becoming competitive like Leicester and Sheffield United?

Nobody is saying we’ll sign 5 prem established players, but we need 1 or 2 like a grant xhaka type

Of course but it wouldn't come close to covering £100m level of spending plus wages.

The model is clearly going to be the kind that develops younger players to sell on. Instead of the £3-5m we might be able to spend say £5-8m and hope for £20m plus down the road. There isn't big profit in cheap players every day of the week and everyone else is playing the same game. One thing I hope we can do is beef up our European scouting network as Richardson/Strachan did.

If Haji Wright is still in our top 3 most expensive transfers come August we might aswell not bother trying to match Derbys total.

id expect 70-80m invested in the playing side as a minimum

I'm thinking around £50m but time will tell. The average net spend last summer was around £70m across the PL...

Simms doesn't his only goes up to 8m based on promotion and goals. I doubt he's hit the goals, on top of that Wright's goes up to arround 9m so would still be above.

We don't know the Onyeka fee yet either

Do we know the cost of Simms' add ons for sure? Regardless Wright also has add ons i'm pretty sure. I think it was announced when he signed... an extra million or 2 but not 100% sure on that.

I’d imagine frank will be between £5m-£10m as he still had two years on his deal as they have an option

I think those clauses about add-ons with promotion will have timed out by now. We will still owe for Mason-Clark for sure.
