He only need to look at Nick Powell and what happened to his career.

I haven't seen the figures you're quoting but if you are indeed correct then i guess i'd have to say that isn't bad (still less than Charlton got for Lookman though.)

Regardless my point stands that he needs to be tied down to avoid a George Thomas situation, also Premier League clubs' wallets are getting more bloated by the year and we should be valuing our players to reflect this.

This Lookman chap has 5 goals, 3 assists in 11 appearances in the Bundesliga, and has scored 2 more in the Europa League. You seem to be quite dismissive of his ability if you think Maddison is going to be ‘far better’ than him...

Personally I thought £3m was a bit low, my basement was £5m, but I imagine the hope at the time was that he’d activate add-on clauses before earning a big money move. Which would then be a pretty smart way to do business... In fact, the sell-on clause was a good idea because it’s unlikely that had he gone to a ‘big’ prem club, we’d be seeing any money for a long, long time — if at all!

Not dismissive at all, although i personally believe Maddison will be better (opinion) I was simply suggesting we should have been looking at a similar fee to the one Charlton got. Your basement of £5m plus add ons would have been acceptable.

Everton clearly values Lookman more than Spurs, Liverpool and Arsenal (of rumours were to be beloved) valued Maddison if they were gazumped by Norwich to sign him...

A team will pay what they believe a player is worth. Maybe there was a bidding war for Lookman? At least for Maddison and IIRC, there was no concrete moves made for him until Norwich moved in...

There’s some talk here of the Maddison money but wasn’t he injured in the last game of the season? I haven’t heard any further news since then??

Anyway, i've taken us off topic... i believe people have got carried away off the back off County away and Mondays final, there seems to be a belief among many that this group of players can take us straight to the top end of League One. I would say we need 5 or 6 good players in for that to happen (GK, LB, CM, RM, ST as a minimum.)

If we keep Bayliss, McNulty, Jones and Willis this summer we will of done really well.

I hope we do and push on in L1 but no matter what anyone says money talks and players heads are turned. It's a part of the game Bayliss goes a Billy Stedman or Finn should step in and become the next prospect that is wanted by others. And as long as we have the game this will happen all over the country at every club.

I have to disagree with this, the priority should be tying him to a longer contract. Charlton sold Lookman for 7.5 million, we sold Maddison who is a much better player for say 1 million? We are terrible at holding out for decent fees, we need Bayliss tied down, playing well in league one and then if someone does come calling we need to make them pay through the nose.

Couldn't agree more, the priority should be to tie him to a longer contract. But do I think this will happen? No. Young players such as Bayliss are going to have their head turned by bigger clubs than ourselves who aim to entice by throwing money at both club and player. This is the state of the current market for the majority of prodigies. Not all mind you, but most. Unfortunately we don't have the resources to match what higher placed clubs in the Championship and Premier League will pay to the likes of Bayliss wage-wise.

Plus, this is pure speculation but I'd hedge my bets on the fact that his agent has already told him to see what else is being offered on the table by Premier League/Championship clubs this summer before committing himself to us.

I can't believe some people still think like this, I like MR and think he has done a great job but his tactics and team selection cost us from winning this league IMO. Something changed after the Lincoln game, and it seems he decided to go for it, resulting in a total of 14 goals in the last 5 games, 3 of which games were against teams who finished above us in the league, yielding 8 goals from those games.

He suffered an MCL which means from the point of injury he's out for about 2 months. He should be back for the start of pre-season.

Give him a break, I doubt the 23438 injuries helped. Due to injuries to key players he's had to effectively scrap his original tactics that he would've spent countless hours preparing during last summers pre-season and start afresh halfway through the season with academy graduates and squad players who were never meant to be starters.

Went to their last league game at Herta Berlin and he was head and shoulder MOTM and looked way better than Ketia that Liverpool have just paid £50m for.

I know It was only one game, but he is some talent.

Well considering, if reports are to be believed, he's likely to end up at one of the top clubs this summer whereas Lookman appears to be surplus to requirements at Everton I don't think the claim is that ridiculous.

For the record I think Lookman should be in and around the Everton first team and letting him go probably be an error.

Lookman isn't surplus to requirements once they get a sensible manager in.

It's ridiculous as Lookman is playing brilliantly in the Bundesliga while no matter how well you think Maddison is doing he's still playing in the champiosnhip.

So once again wow

Well he's clearly performing well enough in the championship that a whole host of top managers and scouts think he could be worth some serious summer time bucks

So again... really not wow worthy

What position does he play? Central or on the wings? It says all 3 on a website I checked.

Typically, wingers and strikers attract larger fees than defenders and midfielders so that could possibly explain why he got such a larger fee than our own.

I hear this line trotted out every time we sell a player, but it’s not special to Cov. The question is always “Why do City not seem to get the same types of fees for players as other clubs” and “that’s the way of the game” doesn’t cover it IMO.

Well we've never seem Maddison play in the Bundesliga have we? The point is there are people at top clubs who think he's capable of playing at the top end of the premiership, which is in fact, a stronger league than the Bundesliga. I would suggest he'd be straight in that Everton team.

Not wow

That is the most fucked up but of logic I've seen on here. Unplug the internet kid you're done

Wow, just fucking wow.

Also Maddison is not yet as good a number 10 as Everton have, but you seem to think he's better than Sigurdsson or that dutch fella.

I'm really not sure how you think you've out logic'd me exactly, there is nothing controversial about anything I've said, once again Maddison is wanted by top top football clubs.

And yes he is better than that Dutch fella.

This was my point and it seems to have turned into a Maddison vs Lookman debate. I was simply using Lookman as a good example of a club playing hard ball and getting a good fee. Something we should be doing be never seem to do.

How do you know Charlton didn’t take the first fee offered to them? I do know bigger clubs than Norwich wanted Maddison but offered less.

If I had to put it into a line. Board officials that lack experience in transfer dealings, who feel under pressure to accept the first half semi-respectable bid to come the clubs way further due to the pressure of ensuring CCFC break even season after season.

We're already rejecting bids for players in our u16s. In hindsight, maybe we could have got more for Maddison and Wilson but trust me we don't accept the first bid that comes our way.

Is Clayton Donaldson realistic? He’s 32 now, Blades fans think he’s done at Championship level but has hit double figures regularly. 11 goals and 11 assists for Blues in 2015/16, 15 goals in 2014/15 and 17 for Brentford in the season they got promoted. On the face of it would be a top signing for our level and a good foil for McNulty but maybe questions over his fitness

He's 34 not 32. 5 goals from 26 appearances for Sheff U this term but i don't know how many of those appearances were starts, i suspect not many, so on that basis its possibly not a bad a return rate.
