Suggestion from a Villa fan (not taking the p*ss) (2 Viewers)

Villa fan in peace. I have a bit of a soft spot for Coventry FC (even though we relegated you - sorry) as I lived in Coundon and studied in the city many years ago. Can't quite believe all that has happened to the club who I watched a few times at Highfield Rd when I was at university.
I won't pretend I know the in's and out's of what is going on there (does anyone really know?) but thought I would offer express an opinion or two with regards to a temporary ground. Not sure if these have already been mentioned as I have only recently joined the forum just to express this view. As I see it, until the SISU v ACL ruck is sorted out, this could sadly rumble on for years so I put forward 3 possible alternatives.

1) Ground Share with Cov RUFC
Not the easiest considering the damage that could occur to the pitch but worth considering?

2) Use the training ground with temporary seating.
Ground capacity might be reduced too as I'm not sure how much temporary seating is allowed for sporting events but worth a look?

3) Birmingham Alexander Stadium
Don't laugh and a bit left field I agree. But consider this;

• It already has four large-ish stands, Capacity approx 13000. Could be increased with temporary seating
• temporary seating could also be added (perhaps for the away supporters).
• Not sure how many athletics meets take place in the year but as athletics is a summer sport, you would have use of it pretty much for most, if not all, of the football season.
• Not too difficult to get too by car and public transport (M6 jcn 7 is about a mile away).

Perry Park could be used for car parking etc. Granted the atheltics track gets in the way but the views from the stands are not too bad. Not sure how much it would cost and the logistics of sharing with Birchfield Harriers will need to be worked out. I suggest that it is also a little bit closer than Northampton.

None of these are permanent solutions and will never be as good as playing at the Ricoh but surely have to be better than a 70-odd mile round trip every fortnight

Hope you guys manage to get some relief from all this nonsense and hope to see you back again in the prem soon.

Wasn't it derby beating man u away and Middlesbrough beating Ipswich away that day that sent us down? Im sure if we would of beaten villa that day we still would of dropped.

Thanks for your sentiments. I believe the club were given a list of alternate grounds from the FL which met their criteria. Walsall being one and obviously Northants being the other.

Come to think of it, was it ever revealed why the electric was all of a sudden switched on and maintenance work carried out at Nene Park?

Thanks for the kind words villa fan. It would appear that our glorious owners want to inflict as much pain on the people of Coventry just so they can get their dirty hands on the whole arena complex for nowt. In other words, a land grab.

As far as I'm aware, the issue with the rugby stadium is that it's owned by the council, which as I'm sure you can imagine makes it a complete non-starter! The training ground I would imagine wouldn't pass all the requirements for league football. Access isn't great at the best of times, transport links are poor and there is little to no parking in the area. So again that's probably a non-starter.

The athletics stadium is an interesting suggestion. Not knowing the area I can't pretend to know about the surroundings etc. but it sounds no worse than Sixfields. It has the same issue though in the principle of moving out of Coventry, however temporarily, that a lot of Cov fans wouldn't be comfortable with.

Personally I'm not opposed to a ground share, at least in principle. Breaking out of an extremely unfavourable deal at the Ricoh to move into a new stadium owned by the club, is on the face of it, something I'd be very much in favour of. The issue is that it's damn near impossible to trust SISU to sort out a stadium, let alone give the club a good deal at that ground. In addition, they've talked up several 'long term' plans in their time here, only to tear the plans up in a year or so's time. There's no reason to believe this plan will end any differently.

Thanks for the comments anyway, hopefully I'll see a Cov-Villa Premier League game again at some point in my life!

Before I sign off, I will leave this anecdote with you. Something I read on a forum somewhere years ago. It's probably a load of BS but it certainly tickled me at the time when we were having our own battles with Villa during the darker parts of Deadly Dung's reign of terror.

Apparently, a football club somewhere (can't remember which one) had problems with their owners, particularly the chairman (probably not the same scale that you have with yours at the moment).
They tried the usual; protests, petitions, rants on radio phone in's etc. but the more they did, the more hard arsed the chairman became. The fans then changed tactics. Rather than targetting the chairman, they targetted his wife. Not in a violent way you understand, but certainly unpleasant. Things like, sending her 'get well soon' cards for a serious illness she never had; messages from her husband's mistress (not that he had one); sending her a funeral wreath etc, one fan apparently dumped a body bag in their front garden.

Basically they messed with his wife's head till the inevitable happened and she gave him an ultimatum; it's me or the club. Not wanting to lose a considerable amount of money in a divorce, he decided to sell his shares in the club.
Granted, it was a bit harsh to target his wife but it got the job done.

Now I'm not suggesting anyone do this to SISU owner's missus, but...

My original sentiment still stands anyway, hope you get out of the mire soon and all the best for CCFC

Our owner is a women, a faceless women too. We could send her Husband CCFC tampax to give to his wife, so she can bleed on us even more!

I got beaten in by Villa on our KOP. Before you ask......2-2 I was a 14 year old kid in Sky Blue. The Villa fan(S) at least 8 of them, asked what team I supported. Thugs.

Thanks for your interest. I think I have just about forgotten about the trauma of that game.

Still haven't taken up the offer of 2 match day tickets to see the Villa's next home game after the incident. Doh.....Silly me .
