Clubs that sack their Manager during the season should have points deducted...say 9 points per sacking? Tweeted by Stuart Linnell last night....Interesting idea?

What, even if the manager turns out to be totally, completely and utterly useless?

What an insane idea.

I just think managers should be on a one year rolling contract, there's no ambition to succeed these days as they no they have a three year contract get sacked after 18 months there paid three years wages so if you shit and get get sacked every 18 months you double your pay its crazy and then you walk into another job within a month

This is Stuart 'ISN'T AT DOING A GREAT JOB' Linnell.

Trying to grab some of the 'Richard Keys' limelight, I think.

Contracts are too heavily weighted in the favour of players/managers, this would only increase the imbalance IMO.

That would be one of the worst ideas implemented in football.

He's a nice guy, but he's absolutely clueless on football.

Why is he even trying ... new ideas are not welcome here. Innovation must be forced upon us through regulation. And even then we won't have it.

I have challenged him on the idea via Twitter (follow me on @PorkyCovvy). I asked him what would happen if a Manager resigned, lets say Alan Curbishley from West Ham, and sometime later, the Manager wins a case in court for constructive dismissal. How on earth could you retrospectively punish the clubs?

Also, the fear of penalty would actually force clubs to offer Managers only 1 year rolling contracts. This would offer some Managers less job security. Also, rich clubs would just put their Manager on gardening leave. Isn't this something all clubs do anyway as we were paying Coleman for a period after he left until he found a job.

Although Stuart believes me to be wrong, I thought it was generally accepted that Aidy Boothroyd lost the changing room. If true, it makes sense for the Manager to be removed; but under Linnell's proposal our owners may have been forced to keep him simply due to fear of penalty.

If a club removes its Assistant should they be subject to a half-points penalty? A quarter points penalty for the removal of a Goal Keeper Coach? How many for the ball boys?

So many work arounds for this concept and at the end of the day, it boils down to points should be won and lost on the pitch. Points deductions are only for the most serious of issues, and a Managerial change should not be viewed as one of them.

There is no point. Why make a competitive league if in the end it has nothing to do with skill? This rate it will be mostly on points deduction.

Not like SL to have an idea ....... its usually someone elses that he regurgitates and doesnt understand.

Agree with the majority of posters - unworkable and nonsense. Surely if a manager is sacked it is because the team doesnt perform well enough under him and has already been penalised (always exceptions though i guess Sheff Wed, Huddersfield etc)

silly idea

This did make me smile, we would be in the conference at this rate! what next extra points for corners??

:thinking about::thinking about::thinking about:

1 point per game for the team with the nicest kit?
1 point per game for the player who comes off the pitch with the cleanest shirt?
1 point per game for 3 badge kisses or more per match?
1 point per game for best pie of the day?
1 point per game for player with the loveliest hair?

Ha ha Otis i cant see us getting any points there either

Baker may do well on point 2. He'd be an ever present if that was introduced.

We'd still be bottom 3 whatever, as I forgot to mention, you get a point knocked off every game for the manager with the biggest belly.

What if the manager is poached? i.e Redknapp to England, does the club get rewarded with 9 points? Strange times these....

i think managers should only be allowed 1 year contracts by the FA and footballers should all be on a pay per play basis, and the non players on a minimum basic wage. and for players such as clingon he should be forced to do community service in a blind nuns monestry.
