for me you have EMC and Wright rotating on the left and Simms and a quality 9 for the striker role

Actually, I think Tavares' footballing brain and composure coupled with BTA's physique and energy would probably make for a quality Championship striker.

6 in the cup. His record in the league fit us now 18 in 89 and they were scored in 14 games. For the other 75 out of 89 he didn't score in three wasn't a lot of positives. I'd happily move him on if we could get someone who wanted him. I was hoping Robins at Stoke but they scored 3 today.

I don’t disagree- if we could recoup anything and get his wage gone it would be a result.

However, while we have him I think we have to play him. No one else is pulling up trees. He stats aren’t great but he does occupy defenders because he’s big and a “supposed” threat. It sort of allows others around him to benefit - it’s why I think Wright and him did so well together (wright insight forward on the left is fair close to Simms)

Tavares had energy

The first touch of both is what prevents them from being quality championship strikers.

Thought Tavares was just a bit lightweight, and his technique was generally fine.

Got to agree. Hull have had Lampards pants down twice where tactically they have out played us by forcing us to do what they want in the last two matches against them. We’ve just played into their hands with no plan B.

Gyokeres wouldn't have scored today. It isn't the strikers it's the tedious buildup play, it invites the opposition to get everyone behind the ball and gives them time to do it!

I think any striker would look bad in this team at the moment. Bar Wright vs Sunderland I don’t think we’ve seen another good striker performance since we swapped to this system.

This. I said at the time we play a system that doesnt favour Strikers. I was told that when Wright was back it would prove that was not the case. I was right again.

I think 'any striker would look bad' is a major cop out for our forwards tbh. Someone with a first touch would be an improvement.

It’s our style rather than formation - and it doesn’t suit any of our strikers, as others have pointed out.

At real loss now, clearly we have to ship 1/2 of them out, and it’s clear he’s freezing simms out - but who takes them. And then importantly who do we target.

today has highlighted we really need 3/4 more players, that’s ignoring sheaf (do feel for that lad)

centre half
Right back - MVe will go
Right wing / left wing play both ideally
Striker

then got the midfidler issue - but this may be a January issue to look at.

The only way we're going to move Simms on is buy letting him go for free, no Club Is Gonna pay any money out for that donkey. Not one of Mark Robins finest moments.

Very odd, how he will not play simms, who has had a full pre season. Refused to put him on at Sunderland too, when he should have.

Simms scored 19 goals in the 23/24 season, Wright got the same.

So they both have the capability. Does there come a point where you question coaching?

As we have questioned why we've had multiple goalkeepers come in as competent players and regress to the point they can barely stop a shot if we have multiple forwards who can't score on a consistent basis is there a problem on the coaching side?

Frustrating. BTA goal side of defender (albeit in tight situations) when ball played but his control let him down at least three times.
Our crosses were poor. Three of our players in the box with the defence back peddling and we pick out a defender or over hit it.
JDS played well today, but the one time he gets away, he blasts the ball across near no one. MVE doesn't get past their first man or passes it behind our strikers.
Teams are going to defend deep against us. They have worked us out.

The importance of wingers is demonstrated by the one period we looked like turning the screw on Hull was when EMC had a 10-15m patch where he was running at his man, taking him on and shooting/crossing.

We don’t have that and didn’t have it when he came off.

It’s boring that we’re talking about strikers, we’ve got 3 strikers in the squad capable of hitting double figures in a season. 20+ goal a season strikers in the championship are the exception, not the rule.

Meanwhile, the starting line up today had 15 goals between them last season and BTA was the most prolific. Rudoni had a modest 10 goals last season (good for his position) and was comfortably our top goal scorer. The solution is staring everyone in the face and no, it’s not sign another striker.

If we’re going to go wide so often, we really need the numbers to actually do that. Wingers aren’t going to play 90m every game because it’s the most dynamic and explosion position on the pitch. As we seen today, 1 sub to EMC and we’ve put 2 square pegs in that LW slot.

Totally agree re wingers. I’d take a centre half and 2 wingers (ideal if one can play 10 role also)

Unless we can flip simms/bta/bassette - nothing is changes

Matters not as Frank doesn't rate or trust him. Plus he scored 6 league goals in 43 appearances. And he doesn't dominate in the air anywhere as much as he should for his size and certainly not as much as someone like Kieffer Moore does.

Why would you put him on the bench if that was the situation? Just stick Bassette on there who you can bring on.

We criticise our strikers but I don’t think our wing play is good enough. Saka faded again today and EMC looked half asleep. I’m not sure they get the to the line enough and produce enough quality. Saka in particular seems to get a free pass from a lot of our supporters because he’s a nice guy. He needs to turn up for 90 minutes home and away this season not just produce the odd 20 minute cameo at home.

Said exactly the same leaving the game. I really hope that that has triggered some phone calls to some agents and clubs tonight but im not convinced there is any acknowledgment of an issue.
i understand it’s one game, this season, but we couldnt break down teams last year either, regardless of Frank saying at every opportunity that we were the better team in both games against sunderland…we didnt go through for a reason
