Stewards (5 Viewers)

Chief Commentator!
Not sure if this has already been mentioned since Saturday. Tonight Midlands today mentioned that there were rumours that stewards were asked on Saturday after the final home game of the season whether they were prepared to travel up to 30 miles from coventry to steward 'home' games. Then they stated that Northampton was the most recent ground to be linked.

Anyone on here a steward who may be able to confirm their claims, or know of any stewards that might know?

I love how they ask the stewards but not the supporters! I think we'd do well to average above 3,000 elsewhere. Is that not something that they should consider? Their stupidity is beyond calculation.

i was told on monday at work that this had happened and that there was a vote amongst the stewards. The result was 80 % against 20% in favour. Got no proof though.

I can't imagine a large investment company being interested in the opinions of a load of morons with poor social skills in bright coats.

they did hold a meeting with the stewards on saturday but it was i beleive before the game started they were asked if they would be prepared to travel within a thirty mile radius , how do i know a guy at my works is a steward and he was at the meeting there was talk of laying on coaches, and i said never mind meeting with the stewards what about the fans dont we have a say. im not renewing my season ticket until all this s--- is sorted sisu should go and the council should butt out, how can a council own part of a company and two of the board members of acl have connections with the council and recomended the 14 million loan to bail them out the council have bailed themselves out how can that be.

If the stewards had any balls they would have walked out there and then, now that would have been interesting

If it is a 30 mile radius that puts Northampton out of the equation I used to work there and it was 42 miles away:blue:.

It would suit Northampton. They want to increase capacity to 17k. 10k a game would be good business for them.

Stuff em. Not going anywhere.

I was told, that we may well play at Northamptons Rugby ground, not the football ground, rumor also has it that Northampton Saints will play their Heineken Cup matches at the Ricoh.

So? What are you suggesting?

Everyone who joins has to make a first post, and that was his.

I'm not sure where this thinly disguised support of all of SISU's actions was, or indeed if there was any support at all. Perhaps I misread the bit that said 'SISU should go' and 'I'm not renewing my ST until this s**t is sorted out'.

This is more PR from Sisu.

They know full well that if they asked the stewards, it would 'leak out' ..........far more effective than making direct stupid threats, like the previous comments from fisher etc.

Ignore it, it is just scaremongering, in support of the judicial review announcement., and the pathetic attempt to blame ACL for not negotiating, with tepid requests to reach an agreement on playing t the Ricoh.

Mind games.

The biggest team he can buy with the radius allowed by the FA.

That way he will get the Ricoh which he really wants.

For the council they screw SISU over who would be stool at Northampton (BTW) do you think Nothampton town would take that move lying down?

Look at the stink Leyton caused recently

surely asking the stewards is akin to capt. mainwairing saying,
'don't tell them pike',
what a sad & devious bunch our owners are portraying themselves as,
& if in any way an individual can side with them,
then you win either the Delieuded award or a free pass to Fishermania

Heard the rumour, but do agree with above post about it.

Having been a steward (back in the Highfield Rd days), I think the reason why they would have asked the stewards is simply because there is an FA ruling that every ground HAS to have a certain number of stewards before a game can commence. Not enough stewards, no game. Simple. The same goes for St John Ambulance. The same FA rule applies that there has to be enough first aid cover. They were probably asked as well. You also have to remember, the stewards are paid. Even though it's a part-time job, it's still their job. Any move is going to involve cost. Would you do the job and then have to pay more for travel? I refused to transfer to Derby when my department closed down at Rolls Royce, Ansty 3½ years ago. Same thing. Not so sure CCFC could find enough people in Northampton that would want to be stewards at a Coventry match every other week. The clubs wants it's own stewards. So I don't think it's a huge mystery. And as for asking them last Saturday. They were all together at once in the stewards room. That's going to save the club lots of phone calls or letters.

Different now, they out source a lot of it from secruity companies

I thought the stewards were employed by the club and the "response team" (Orange goons) were from outsourced security companies.

Blimey! Things have moved on a bit from my day! Head of stewards was the ex Coventry Police Chief, Ian Rankin, a right old misery! (think it was "Ian"). That was back in 1997 - 99.

Maybe I was a bit harsh but the bit in bold seemed at odds with what most supporters I know think . We were all pleased that they had secured ACL thus keeping sisu's grubby hands from picking it up on the cheap. He implies that the council should have stood by and let sisu distess acl into admin.
