There'd be no point, from Cole's POV, him coming here unless he starts. Why would he leave for reserve football lower down the football food chain?

It's the concern of course with him only being here for a month. We get him fit, and then he bogs off... so only pays off for us if he extends, really.

Look at Bury results and we will know if eagles was a mistake! Big time Charlie's don't always bring success because they are in it for themselves. Coles on the other hand does'nt give a shite about money he just wants to play football.

No don't Lamieres was in the side, Kent came on for him in kents first game (Scunthorpe - think he signed on the Friday so hadn't trained) then immediately replaced him in his second game v Chesterfield and has been keeping him out ever since.

Lameiras only played 60 mins against Crewe and was replaced by Murphy. He then played the full game against Walsall, but was taken off at half time for tactical reasons against Southend. He was then substituted the next game on 74 mins against Burton and then again on 70 mins against Scunthorpe. The game after, against Chesterfield he was then dropped.

Can very much be argued that TM didn't have complete faith in him anyway. It's not like he was playing really well and then was suddenly dropped. He did fade of games and a couple of games passed him by. He was very poor in the game he was hauled off at half-time.

Starting Kent every bloody game bothers me far more than giving Joe Cole a few games to get fit!! I know
Joe Cole can produce end quality.........i don't see it with Kent tbh......anyway said Swindon game was Kent's big
chance which he blew...again....will be very surprised if Kent not benched for next match

Kent was excellent when he came on midweek. Suspect that's why he started. Expect it was same for Cole, played well midweek and deserved a start. Maybe it back fired as not quite got match fit yet but people need to chill. We're 4th.

Problem is 'has he earned his place'? No, in a word. Past reputation shouldn't count.

Who has earned their places in those attacking 3 midfield positions?

Think Lameiras deserves a start I would go with this for the Peterborough match
------Armstrong
Murphy--Cole---Lameiras

For the next game, think it gives us a good mix of quality and final ball in Cole and Lameiras and speed and directness with Murphy and Armstrong

Thr run and cross from byline that led to stokes shot cleared off line is why Kents in team. We need to get him doing that 5-6 times a game though

On sat vs pbiro though I would prob play jon and lameires. But I think Murphy and cole better suited to home games so either way we will cause pboro defence problems I hope

I agree with that but there is a price to be paid for doing it if you know he cannot last 90 minutes. Ideally, you start a match with 11 players who can last 90 minutes, then you have three substitutions you can make by choice and not because you are forced to.

So we should never start Fortune? How does a player get match fit if they're not allowed to play until they are?

There's more than one way to manage a team.

Mowbray always planned to give him 45 so nothing to do with cole really. Sure he cud a managed 60 again but manager didn't want that

It's all about building up fitness. I am sure vs pboro he will play 70 mins if he starts

It doesn't matter if Cole is subbed off or starts on the bench and subbed on, either way you're still using one substitution.

Luckily Mowbray is a lot more experienced than any of us and will make the right call

They might if they went on to lose a 2-goal lead in the last 5 minutes.

I can understand your pov but the decision to substitute Cole had nothing to do with surrendering a 2 goal advantage. The players on the pitch need to look at themselves and vow to learn from it

Reading this thread back just highlights to me that we do at least have some good options in this area of the field.

I think the depth issue with the loans is good and it is not an issue......it is more the fact some of us feel
some should be offering depth from the bench given current performances and not starting automatically ahead
of some of our own contracted players...in my case Kent!!

If in the next couple of games we get back to:

RCC
Willis Ricketts Martin Stokes
Vincelot Fleck
JOB Cole Lameiras
Armstrong

I think we'll regain our form. Keep Murphy and Kent as impact players for now, especially as Cole isn't match fit.

If Phillips doesn't handle the ball, they don't get a pen, we win 2-1 and this thread doesn't exist....

If Phillips doesn't handle the ball, the ref gives a pen for the foul by Martin.....we draw 2-2, same thread.

Can anybody thats been both away games and watched cole, comment on how badly he's getting kicked about. it was reported in both games that he was clattered? what are teams doing when we play them? do they just allocate a man to just stick on him all game?

It isn't just Cole. There has been tasty tackles in both games with refs that prefer to talk than give bookings. An early yellow card would sort it out quickly. It has stopped our fast flowing football.

You're right there mate! Remember that game verses the team that turned up in a luminous yellow kit or whatever the fuck it was, absolutely atrocious...team full of traffic cones...anyway there dickhead of a center mid kicked the entire team throughout the whole 2nd half and it took the ref till virtually the end of the game book the bloke and the 17 penalty shouts we had vs shrewsbury
