I guess. It depends on how far you want to look for a conspiracy.

Like I said they could have been hoping to keep it quiet and get a deal done before anyone realised and thus manage to get the money and not look too bad in the process. When it was put into the public eye that wasn't an option so they asked for the indemnity clause so they could still get the money but save a bit of face if anyone asked why they'd negotiated a deal when legals were still ongoing when they said they wouldn't.

As you say if you want to go a bit tin foil hat you could say they never wanted to agree a deal but didn't want to be seen as the bad guys so started negotiations on a SISU promise they knew to be false (or misleading), made sure Gilbert made it public (probably had to use a third party due to confidentiality agreements) before the contract was concluded and thus attempted to change the contract in a way they knew the club couldn't agree to and thus get rid of us while making SISU at least part culpable.

It's not tin foil is it? They also kept moving the goal posts.

Unfortunately too many people only hear half of the story and make up their minds based on that. It doesn't take much of a scroll through the club's social media posts to realise that. It's a simplification of the situation.

You're right, getting kids out of school before 3:30 for the 4 hour journey to Birmingham is going to be a nightmare

There is conflicting reports from different sources and it will be clarified eventually. But in a climate of fake news it's difficult to draw any real conclusion as to what has brought a potential deal to ultimately fail.
Presently it would seem WASP changed the goalpost and insisted on further clauses that would imdemify them from cost, and perhaps more damging any damages awarded against them should the EC and it's process eventually find for SISU against the council. It's a tricky one becuase what ever happens WASP know SISU can't control the outcome. If anything WASP with hindsight I agree, should have made sure of such a clause was in place with the council when they bought the lease on the cheap!

So initially WASP had put the EC result to one side and wanted to agree a deal with SISU and the football club. That seems reasonable enough as not having the football club there would be a big misstake and loss of revenue. So why did they come back and insist on a further imdemnification clause to protect their interest financially from SISU and not the council?
Its unfortunate that the EC complaint was made but SISU will say they had to follow through. WASP know each of the previous proceedings have been returned to favour them and the council but the EC complaint is a different animal and as such, just could go against them. That surely is the council's problem and for them to be concerned and for WASP (who knew what they got into) to approach the council to save their bacon should this final action not be in their favour.
So it's rather blinkered for WASP to demand SISU agree this new clause in any deal to play at the Ricoh. Yes SISU wisely could have accepted their years of litgation was over but can you actually blame them for one last throw of the dice with the EC?
Now we face a few years of waiting for a process to run its course and that is damaging to the football club for which SISU must be ultimately culpable. While I think they have every right to make a EC complaint they could have ended it and moved on securing a long term relationship with WASP, gain promotion and finally had a club to sell as their only way out. Rightly or wrongly they are hoping for a positive result and damaging consequencies for WASP and the council. But will that even lead to a pathway to ownership or shared ownership of the Ricoh?
Its a big if.
I think blame is where ever your understanding of it all is. For me WASP should have done a deal regradless of the EC complaint, it meant gains in the interim.
And the council? Had we had 'better' onwers we may have had less opposition and more concilitory attitude but regardless, what kind of council allows for a football to be destroyed by stripping it of its own base with little regard for the community they serve simply because they would not deal with the football clubs current owners.

Wellcome to St.Andrews!

Not taking away from the obvious shit situation we are in, and some people obviously will struggle with getting to and from Birmingham, but I joined a colleague for Blues v Sheffield United a month or 2 back on a Tuesday night, and it couldn't have been easier getting to and from the ground from Leamington.

I've not seen anything that says the rest of the agreement they'd negotiated had been or tried to be altered, just the introduction of the indemnity clause after the EU complaint was revealed.

One way or another, it's either a conspiracy aimed at making sure CCFC were no longer tenants at the Ricoh and making it look like SISU's fault for signing a misleading statement so Wasps went into talks on false pretences or incompetence by Wasps for not realising the EU complaint had been made.

Spot on. A pity, given he's a journalist with some clout.

He's on a campaign against crap owners in football, which is laudable, but it's either blinded him to any nuance in our situation, or he's just out to sell a few books/clicks without doing too much work.

It will be interesting to see what Mark robins and the players say about not playing at the Ricoh. I hope it doesn't affect our chances of securing more players for next season

I doubt it. Dabo would have known and he still signed. As long as they get their money and fans sing at them, they'll be fine.

I don't imagine it will have much impact, hardly any of the players actually live in Coventry anyway so going 20 miles down the road i wouldn't imagine would put many off. The players already signed will have known we didn't have a guaranteed home and they still signed. (i'm bloody hoping this is right btw!)

Brilliant synopsis that should be compulsory viewing for so called professional journalists Conn and Gilbert, for BBC CWR, for the Telegraph, and for the Trust, Jimmy Hill Way, PSB et al. 17 year old supporter can see blame where blame sits, without his own agenda. Well said Ol!

The whole situation stinks. Yes we have unscrupulous owners who can and will do anything to protect their investment/income. They tried to get the Ricoh cheap and failed miserably. However Ann Lucas and the continuing council are just as much of a disgrace. The Ricoh arena was built for CCFC. For our council to sell it to a rugby club from London is crazy. Its an absolute shameful thing to do. Coventry city no longer have a home. Is their another example of a council trying to f**k over a club. A successful ccfc with their home ground would bring far greater income than wasps could ever dream of.

They are all wankers and this strategy of trying to bust the Ricoh from the outside failed last time. Fuck the lot of them, they all have a part to play in this. The question now is how much is it going to hit preparations for next season.

Ummm....are we accepting Sisu's statement as the truth here?

I wouldn't believe any statement they put out, ever.

Obviously all sides are going to blame each other. Was always going to happen.

My guess is the truth lies somewhere in-between all these statements. I most certainly wouldn't take the Sisu statement as the gospel truth for a single second.

Always quite liked St Andrews. Our illustrious leaders have played tbeir part in another fuck up, but who gives a fuck about Wasps a London based rugby team with no connections to Coventry. I have never understood some peoples love for them.
I feel for Mark Robbins and the players.

This is actually quite a serious matter. Can Wasps remove it, and if so do the Council have to be alerted to possible removal ?

You mean you won't be hiring the Jimmy Hill conference room off them anymore? They're happy enough to use our history to make them money.
