Squad numbers (3 Viewers)

Like Wilson?

Unfortunately you don't get a Wilson every season, do you?

Some of the kids might come good, equally some might fade away.

There's a general theory that almost all kids will have a dip in form and need taking out of the team for a while for their own benefit. Hard to do that with our current squad size, I'd say. The best example I can think of for a team that has an excellent youth policy and football ethos, but has to manage with a small squad made mostly of those kids is... Crewe.

I mean no disrepect to them, but in terms of league success it's hardly the model for us - is it?

My point is, they can't really be judged until we have seen them properly after a few games can they

Steven Pressley: Hands off Sky Blues skipper Carl Baker!

Coventry City boss insists there's been no Nottingham Forest bid for captain

Carl BakerSteven Pressley has dismissed widespread rumours that Coventry City captain Carl Baker is a target for Championship club Nottingham Forest.
The Sky Blues skipper has been the subject of speculation on various social media outlets but the manager insists that the 30-year-old midfielder is going nowhere.
“There’s absolutely nothing in that,” said Pressley of the multi-winning Player of the Year.
I think that’s just people speculating. I have not received any offers for any of my players and Carl is a pivotal part of what I want to create here.
“He’s my captain who was a key player last year and who is a key player in my plans going forward so there is no intention at all to sell Carl.
“I’ll be honest with you, I’m excited about the new season. There are a number of issues and situations that need to be resolved but we need to keep focused on the positives in the football department, and there are many positives.
“It’s the dawn of a new season and hopefully a new period in the club’s history.”

And mine is that having a small squad with a high composition of untested kids isn't likely to lead to success in this league. I'm not denigrating the individuals, I'm just pointing out that spinning what's going on as something positive makes little sense to me.

It's probably best Baker doesn't, his feed would be lit up with so many 'fuckin disgusting m8 skip Bakes disgusting' comments his tail would spin.

Pressley is in my opinion very poor at spotting potential can anyone name me a successful loanee or any trialists or signings he's made

Bitching about it on Social Media will not help his cause.

seems to be alot of his problem all this started when he said he wished he could join the fans on the march which might make him a hero in some peoples eyes but it was always going to be frowned upon in the top office.

i suspect he is going to be in the sky blue sam outfit next season cant see anyone else wanting to pay him what he must be on with us at this stage

Here come the conspiracies

well presley did say last month that Baker was a vital part of his team for next season, so it seems very likely that this is coming from sisu and not Presley. Of course its more likely about money than it is about sisu throwing a mardy when criticised but they certainly have form for that, the trust were nearly thrown out of the scg for their comments (while it's possible that was just John Strange, it seemed more likely that it came from Labovitch),

2. If you saw him last year he was very inconsistent. Yes he had some good games but that happened every 3-4 games perhaps. Not to mention cutting inside every move, pulling out of 50/50s and waving his arms in the air every time he got tackled. You call that captain material?

Couldn't have put it better.

There is something motivating the need to push Baker out the door, what that is, I am sure we will never know..

But a player who scores 25 goals in two seasons from Midfield and assists with half as many goals is a player we should be keeping..

Do you not think though Robo that sometimes a player becomes symbolic of a culture of mediocrity and needs a change whether they think so or not?

The season before last he won every player of the year award going. Six months ago SP was saying there was no way we would be selling him and how important he was to the team. Now we've stripped him of the captaincy and won't even give him a squad number. Something definitely seems off and with Baker I'm struggling to think it's something off the pitch or attitude related. Not that we will find out but it would be interesting to know what SPs input into this has been, would not be surprised to learn its not a decision made by him.

I agree that's possible and I suppose it's my opinion but I'd of kept Baker..

What has the season before last got to do with anything?

Do you think bakers performances post December warrant retaining him as the clubs highest earner.

Yes or no?

If he's not in the plans, so be it. What cracks me up is facebookers falling all over themselves to kiss his arse with gushings about him being a legend. FML indeed.

Frankly the club should ban this social media drivel - i would love to see Carl try it if ferguson was manager.
