Sounds like flu has claimed some more people tomorrow, Lampard sounded downbeat on that.

Hopefully not the only team struggling with it.

Lampard was asked about it before, he said it was the players choice. He didn't sound keen on having to have it.

That’s a big rabbit hole.

however they may have had it, but also personal choice right, but again that’s a convo best left in 2021!

Doesn't have to be flu specially, a bad cold can absolutely wipe you out and there's nothing you can do other than wait it out.

Though the reality was that we'd already collapse in December. We only started that month second on goal difference and finished it fourth, four points off second having played a game more

From memory it actually started in November then as you say went into December.

Also, it was an incredibly young side with zero depth and no real hope of recruiting well in January.

Beyond the Starting XI we had next to no quality. Couple that with Armstrong's form dropping off a cliff it ended up being a perfect storm for our collapse.

Missus is jabbed and has still had it as bad as me. Not sure the vaccine helps this particular strain but being unvaccinated as a footballer is ridiculous. I hope the club reclaim any wages when they aren’t playing from their ow stupid decisions.

I’m pretty sure about 90% of hospital doctors and nurses don’t take it either.

As a principle, unless you’re immuneo-compromised I don’t think fit and healthy people should be inoculated for common illnesses.

You might think that but all available evidence would disagree. Any anyone who has met a nurse would know they’re hardly immune (lol) from internet madness.

Cba with the vaccine debates. Reminds me of my Covid family Xmas again. Clearly nobody on either side going to be convinced. As for the football, very worrying that flu is running through us. They’re not an immediate recovery either as Torp has shown. Would snap your hand off for a point with that news.

Rather condescending as per, people should have choice whether or not they take a vaccine. If people choose to not take something and they get ill, you reap what you sow.

In any case, elite athletes aren’t exactly people who need to be pressured into getting a flue jab that might not even stop getting ill. They’re fit and healthy people who aren’t gonna get seriously ill if they catch said virus.

No, this isn’t anti-vaxxer nonsense. I’m entitled to a free flu jab and got the COVID jabs pretty early, but decided against getting the jab this year.

I get most of that but I still felt Joe Cole didn't have the desired effect, was it beat Barnsley on a twelve game losing streak for top of the table on his debut, after being 2-0 up the losing 4- 3 or drawing 4-4?
Not a criticism of his talent but just the wrong mix?

This flu is wiping people out even with the vaccine and even if they are fit and healthy. Most of my colleagues have been off work for a week with it and can't get out of bed.

Flu vaccine is made based on best guesses from the southern hemisphere, can't always get it right and this year having the vaccine would probably not have helped. Got this flu about 6 weeks ago and it wiped me out for a week, our players should be more robust so you'd hope wouldn't be out for as long.

Not confident for this one. But the last game I got confident for was Ipswich so not doing that again. Think we’re in “limp to January” mode and they’re finding their feet. One of the toughest games of the season remaining for me.

Now I wasn't at all confident on Ipswich. I was convinced we would lose. The Saints game, I am a lot more confident on and can well see us getting something from the game

So who is out/missing if George Shepherd (who has only just returned from injury himself!) is in the squad!?!!

They got 94 points last year which in most seasons pretty much guarantees a top 2 finish.

There’s 75 points left to play for which means that it’s literally only possible for teams below us and Boro to hit 100 points with a near 100% record.

For context, Ipswich and Southampton need to win 20 and 21 games respectively to hit 94 points.

By contrast, we need win 16 games from 25 to hit 96 points. The parachute team would need to be undefeated for the rest of the season to have a realistic chance of surpassing 90 points, let alone 94+ points.

Who said we've had a flu outbreak in the squad or is someone just putting 2 and 2 together and coming up with 5?

We won 4-3! Barnsley themselves then went on an amazing run and got promoted.

Although as has been pointed out we had already started to slip, the January transfer window cemented it. Bringing in 'old heads' in the shape of Ramage, Henderson and Hunt was counter productive, and Maddison wasn't the same player for us after his deadline transfer.

I'm pretty sure we were still in a decent enough position to challenge after the transfer window closed, but I remember us soon after playing home games against Walsall and Burton in the same week, who were promotion rivals and lost both.

Ben Turner getting injured was also a kick in the teeth as he was just what we needed at that time.

'My body, my choice' but I'll pick and choose when it applies. Funnily enough, it always seems to be the ones who act holier than thou who are constantly hypocritical, and who's compassion goes about five yards.

That is bollocks. 90%? no way is that accurate, just some online bullshit. It is a surprisingly high number considering their profession and experiences but interestingly the numbers are not often published.
Flu kills people, as does Covid. The "Spanish" Flu epidemic killed millions, peculiarly mainly young, fully fit, healthy people. That strain never went away and only vaccination will protect you. Covid much the same, only the "at risk" suffered worse.
Polio used to be a common illness that has been virtually eradicated by vaccination. See also Measles that can kill children or send them blind, lead to brain damage and immunity problems with other diseases. Cases were falling dramatically but are on the rise due to the Kennedy stupidity in the USA..

Hoping the speculation about missing players tomorrow is just mind games from FL. In general, elite athletes have a slightly lower immunity while training intensively according to various stuff I remember reading. Sorry, no links as got to head to the pub

This is the first year I’ve not had a heavy cold/ flu. Been taking Vitamin B12/ D supplements and running 4 times a week - coincidence ?

Then again, I discovered my wife was having an affair with a friend of a friend so my mental health is absolutely fucked and I’m mainlining antidepressants

Anyway, Soton 1 Cov 1
