We were the last professional club to host a home match on Christmas Day 1959 beating Wrexham at HR. Played them at the Racecourse ground on Boxing Day too and won again.Xmas Day games were commonplace back in the day (not sure until when though ? Maybe 1950s) but Cmas wouldn’t have been anywhere near as commercialised then of course. I think they were morning kick offs

Not sure why people are trying to make out having a game kick off at 6pm on a regular workday is normal. Doing Sky's work for them.
How long before we get, well it was fine that one time we did it so lets have midweek games at 6pm because it works for the tv schedule.

I genuinely believe Sky pick these kick off times and do things such as having us play Norwich on a Monday night in the hope that match going fans cave in and in the end back scrapping the 3pm BlackoutDoing Sky's work for them.

Nobody is suggesting that working patterns aren't changing or that more people aren't working weekends. But if the majority work Monday to Friday and the game is on a non-bank holiday it might not be a bad idea to have kick off at a time that enables people to get there after work.
We are literally the only game in the country that kicks off before 7:30pm on a working day between Christmas and New Year, its not the norm despite people wanting to insist it is.

The outrage (faux or not) isn't warranted. The UK isn't working 9-5 Monday to Friday like it was probably only a couple of decades ago. Those annoyed about it being 6pm on a Monday aren't up in arms about 12.30pm on a Saturday because it doesnt suit their own personal preferences. It actually comes across very much like those who moan about the away games points.

not this shit again....We will need a second tier building on when in the premier league. We need a capacity of 40/45k. Always said 32k was not big enough for a one club city the size of Coventry. The game is so much bigger these days.

I don’t think it would cost that much in infrastructure - The EFL have cameras at every game anyway, Sky just piggyback these for their Sky Sports+ games and pay the EFL for that rightThey may want to show 3pm games, but they wouldn't want too many games on at the same time.
That would mean paying for extra infrastructure at their end to do that many live transmissions, even with most of them on a glorified streaming service. It would also leave them with little life action to cover the rest of the weekend.
If they can make the weekend games basically run from 8pm on Friday to 9:50pm on Monday (with it being between noon to 9:50pm on Saturday and Sunday), then they'll be happy.
But they'd still want them spread out from Friday to Monday. Games at inconvenient times had nothing to do with breaking the 3PM embargo. I think they’d show every game if they could - if you could theoretically watch every game your club plays legitimately on Sky then I think their subscriptions would shoot up, particularly amongst armchair Liverpool, Man Utd, Chelsea fans etc.

Can’t believe it took so many replies in this thread to say this. When all the kids are off, surely it’s way better to kick-off at 18.00 rather than 20.00?
