His absolute best would be Leeds, Sun, Burnley or one of the relegated sides maybe Ipswich.

I just don't think he's at the level anymore to be playing for a Fulham, Brentford etc.

He's a top midfielder in this division and stands out, but the Prem is levels above this division.

It will be interesting to see how Shef U navigate around this utter fuck up losing today, Hamer and many will like move on.
It will appear that Shef U will be doomed because of this failure, but they will recoup a fair amount and rebuild. I still think next season they will be right up the top.
Who will manage them though, the was a moment when the camera panned to a couple of Individuals, money men I think, sure they'll have some input!

Like all clubs in this division, Shef U will lose their highest earners/ biggest star players.

They will rebuild, I will be surprised if they don't go out and spend 15/20m this summer.

We can't just assume that Shef will be out of the promotion race next season because of today.

Ipswich, Leicester, Southampton, Coventry, Shef U, Middlesbrough, Norwich, West Brom and a few suprise outsiders will all be in the running fighting it out.

We just need to keep doing what we are doing, buying a Rudoni for 5 million and eventually moving him on for 5 times the amount, adding more quality to the ge eral depth of the team and repeating the process until we eventually have that season where thing go our way.

I'm not even arsed we are playing in the Championship next season, genuinely think it's the best league in the world In terms of entertainment value. The shite refs, no var, end to end action and just the lack of technical and tactical quality makes the division entertaining. The day we get promoted I will be buzzing obv, but go a d watch a Chelsea v West Ham etc and the Football is fucking boring nowadays, I could put on fucking Plymouth Argyle vs Hull City etc and it's entertainment for 90 minutes.

Looking at the Sheff Utd forum they don't seem that distraught at all, they seem very measured about what happened. They didn't sell out their end at Wembley and created no atmosphere at all.
Sunderland wanted it way more on and off the pitch. I do wonder if sub consciously among the fans and players there was a bit of trepidation about going up only to get hammered week in week out like last season.
I'm thinking if we had gone up today, while I'd be getting hammered celebrating like everyone else, at what point would my euphoria die down and the trepidation and realism hit that realistically our best case scenario would be getting 25 points. Sadly that's the reality for clubs like us Sheff Utd Sunderland Southampton Leicester West Brom Norwich and many others. It's actually quite sobering and if the 3 who ha e gone up this season are relegated as early as the three coming down this season were then I think there is a real problem as fans will lose interest in the PL at most clubs in the country bar the elite 6-8 clubs.

I think they could be the Leeds of next season. They lost the play offs then smashed 100 points.

I wouldn't be putting money on any of the promoted teams staying up next season. No matter the size of the club the gap is way to big and getting bigger. 4th from bottom is going to take some effort by one of the 3.

Shame that its become a thankless task but winning promotion is not exactly the great prize we chase. The getting there is more fun than the outcome, its like climbing Everest only to find the top and the view is of a taller mountain in front of you thats impossible to climb.

i dont know the ins and out of his lifestyle, but whats the rumours?
Listen to Ben Wilson on Ben Foster's podcast, was recorded around the start of the 2023/24 season just after Hamer left and he pretty much admitted that Gus has a completely unconventional diet and routine for a professional footballer, combine that with the fact just about every man and his dog has got a selfie with him in Samoan Joe's and it says all you need to know

As I have said previously in the thread, both fantastic footballers but there was a reason that Gyokeres got a move to a top club playing in European competition and Hamer went to one of the worst sides in Premier League history - Vik was an animal, you only have to look how ripped and bulky he is these days to see that and according to Adi he spent hours on the training ground trying to improve himself, Gus supposedly likes the footballers lifestyle too much and it is of detriment to him, he's had a better career than most even playing one Premier League game but could and should be so much more, but an established Premier League club will simply not take that chance on him if his lifestyle is still the same

To add onto what you said, comparing the two players it’s undeniable that Gyokeres is a lot more athletic than Hamer.

The technical differences between the Championship and Premier League is generally closing. Where the gap is widening is Premier League players have the technical skills but also the athleticism and that’s where the gap is widening.

Back to Hamer, he’s unbelievably talented and had he been around in the 90-00s, he’d probably be a good Prem CM. Nowadays footballers are just a lot more professional with many being teetotallers.

Just did some number crunching on how promoted teams fare in their first PL season since 1992...

It was a 56% survival rate - basically a coin flip

Looked at all 32 seasons, 96 promoted teams total:

54 stayed up
42 went straight back down

What usually happens:

2 out of 3 survive (most common - happened 15 times)
1 out of 3 survive (12 times)
All 3 survive (only twice! 2001-02 and 2022-23)
All 3 relegated (4 times including this season 😬)

Odds would suggest 1 stops up this season and I would suspect Leeds stand the best chance.

I wouldn’t be surprised. If he was that much in demand he’d have gone over the summer…if he sorted his lifestyle out it’d be a different matter.
Lol yet in o hare thread your talking about how he would be a premier league player soon wether he plays or not.

Always positive slang for o hare and always negative for hamer. I don't get why you love one and not the other 🤣🤣🤣

Yeah I know I could research it myself but I’m being lazy 😉

I’m not overly bothered about either of them. Both would have been PL players if they’d won yesterday, albeit for a team who’d almost certainly finish bottom, again. I don’t think an established PL team would sign either of them.

I do find the vitriol to CoH quite strange though.

Sell Vini and sign Coventry's Rudoni, sell Hamer and sign Norwich's Sainz, sell Anel and sign Coventry's Bobby Thomas.

Just under 50% about 43% with the last 2 seasons being a bigger trapdoor for the promoted clubs. If it happens next season I think we cam conclusively say the gap is widening. People forget Brighton, Brentford, Bournemouth, Forest when they wheel out the impossible to stay up, the gaps too big clichés.

They did it by spending 100s of millions.

yeah if only he made himself miserable and life not worth living he could have added an extra zero to his bank account.

Some of you people I swear.

There's nothing wrong with what he said, he's merely pointing out why Hamer won't reach his ceiling.
If he's happy doing what he's doing then fair enough but it will hold him back.

It really annoys some people when people don’t spend their entire life counting calories and restricting fun.

The man has won at life FFS and there’s a bunch of SEO optimisers and IT workers telling him he should have gone to bed a bit earlier.

We used to be a real country.

If he wants to go to a higher level, which he has the talent to do, he needs to be more professional, that's what people are saying and thats a fact.
If he doesn't then fine.

And if you don't think IT workers should comment on what professional footballers should do then you need to spend the day deleting a load of your posts.

He clearly doesn’t! He’s not put in a transfer request at a Champ club once. I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s still there next season. Man is obviously happy enjoying life and being a hero at a club and this place keep crying because he won’t eat boiled chicken and broccoli for life so he can get ten appearances for Crystal Palace.

No ones crying, just pointing out why he won't reach his ceiling, mainly in response to his fan boys naming clubs he might go to that there's not a cat in halls chance will sign him for the very reasons mentioned.

I don't know why there's so much debate on here about him and O'Hare anyway, it's quite strange, and yes, I'm aware I've been a part of it.

If anything yours is an emotional response as it’s clearly struck a nerve.

He’s a professional footballer, it’s part of his job to sort his conditioning out.

you’re reacting like someone who’s had bad experiences of diets and are triggered as a response

Given Hamers obvious natural talent I think it would be disappointing for him if the highest he achieved was a season in the Prem in one of the worst teams of all time.
Actually think the suggestion of somewhere like Galatasaray is a better fit. Big club and he'd do well there I think.
