As well as other members, and as well as the local newspaper read the statement the same way.... isn't just me.

OK, you're going to have to point out where I said it was just you? Maybe you've deduced that whilst I've not actually said it, it's what I meant? Or just more spin to move away from the fact you've said the SBT statement welcomes the verdict, but it's actually the announcement it welcomes - which are two separate things.

Anyway.........my comments about moving forwards rather than looking back - thoughts?

Multiple people are taking the statement the same way. Some who also hate SISU, that suggests the statement very much reads like that. Add to that the handing out of anti sisu letters outside the court room last time, I'd safe to say they did welcome the verdict but didn't welcome the "decision" for the appeal.

As I've said in this thread and the other, the legal stuff is pointless as they will just lose going forward.

Would they have welcomed the announcement of the verdict had sisu's appeal been successful? Doubt it, I don't think we or the CT have misinterpreted tbr meaning of those words.

Strange, no statement on the website or twitter or anything. No posting it around on forums?

Equally, I don't remember any Trust statement when Sisu were twice refused leave to Appeal. That part of the process isn't that momentous surely. Whereas the actual verdicts at the High Court and Appeal Court are definite milestones.

I think welcome is the wrong word isn't it? That is effectively saying they are pleased they won.

Which as individuals they can crack open the bubbly, but don't say it as the trust

Did they welcome the go ahead of the appeal?

I didn't personally welcome the appeal as it was fairly obvious what the result would be. More money spent on lawyers and nothing else.

Did you not welcome the verdict? Justice being served. All the pointless legal stuff resolved.

Was it? I was expecting SISU to be told to piss off again.

It is obvious this time it isn't the end of it and it will go further.

It isn't resolved, that's the thing.

They have Europe left and I guess they will go down that route. I'm sure the Catalan government will be watching that one quite closely and hoping CCC win it. If they don't it could have serious ramifications.

Sky Blue Sports and Leisure and ARVO via their parent company SISU have yet to indicate what they intend to do with respect to Mr Justice Hickinbottom’s unambiguous rejection of their Leave to Appeal to the Appeals Court. We call on Ms Seppala to make it clear that they will not be throwing more good money after bad by continuing this fruitless and futile process by appealing direct to the Court of Appeal. Not only will further appeals costs thousands more but they will also preclude talks with ACL. ACL have justifiably stated that they will not negotiate with someone who is continuing to take legal action against them, so stop the legal proceedings and get talks started for the good of all Sky Blue supporters, Coventry City and the City of Coventry itself

I could be wrong though as it was a quick Google on my phone!

I agree with you on that point at least Nick. It seems from the Alex Carter-Silk quote that Sisu won't let this rest, notwithstanding the overwhelming weight of opinion that "Enough is Enough".

Although the Council have been awarded costs, inevitably the winner in any court case doesn't recover all sums paid out - I'm told by lawyer friends that 75% is a good return. So if CCC have incurred around £0.7 million in legal fees then the council tax payers may be underwriting £175k or more.

Whatever people's views on the rights or wrongs of the whole debacle, for Sisu to pursue what looks like a futile legal argument based on the Justices' conclusions, will just waste more of Sisu's money (their problem) but also Coventry Council Taxpayers funds.

This does raise an issue with the Trust. Very little has been seen or heard for a while now. The regular open meetings seem to have become far less frequent, can't even remember when the last one was. As I member its been a long time since I was asked for my opinion on anything.

For me the trust either needs to be active and visible at all times or stay silent. They shouldn't be there at the beck and call of the local media, only summoned when there is something that shows the owners in a poor light.

Does a verdict being reached necessarily show the owners in a poor light? They thought they were right - as did Higg's with the expenses claim. They had a right to appeal. It turns out they were wrong. The important thing is the clarity of the decision - which should be welcomed by everyone ( even maybe by some in the SISU team ). It could mean that that avenue is now closed and we ( fans, CCC and SISU ) can move forward. Yes, by all means welcome the verdict and say you want to move on.

Like I said, I don't disagree with bits of it and actually agree. It is the way it comes across...

Let's not pretend it is all about the tax payer, there is Reeves on over 200k a year only working part time while he works somewhere else.

Spot on.
Clutching at straws to avoid accepting the decision and divert attention away from it.

Just wish they would challenge Sisu on a plan for the future with similar gusto.

What have they used membership fees for? Where does this money go?

I think the membership fees go into a holding account and can't be spent. Something to do with the rules around being a trust. Wasn't that the reason it was only a quid as there was no benefit to charging more?

Would probably help if more people stepped up and offered assistance, I'll certainly be looking to get more involved when I move back to the city.

Erm, have you read the thread from yesterday? I think I called that SISU would lose way in advance, the same as I have said they will lose if they go to europe or to a JR2. I accepted SISU were going to lose a while ago, the same as I have already they will in JR2 etc.

I have offered web / design / server help and still happy to. Politics aside I'll try and help anybody with that where I can whether they are a SISU lover or hater! :)

Fair enough - they were right though. Sisu did throw good money after bad.

I wouldn't argue that, like I said on a thread yesterday it's like me keep starting on Anthony Joshua and getting a kickin, then starting on him again and not learning from it.

I just don't see the point in it, it is like their lawyers just want the payday and keep advising them wrong.

It is obvious this time it isn't the end of it and it will go further.

Has that been announced or are you speculating? I don't think it is obvious. If I were Joy, I would be very cautious about continuing with JR1. The CCFC investment has been a disaster for Joy's firm. She would not be where she is ( in general ) by not having made some good investments as well as the ccfc debacle. I hope she acts in a commercial manner - and not as someone fighting a battle to the finish to prove a point. If City could get out of this league without blowing millions, she would be in a better position than feeding armies of lawyers in a EU court case. I don't think it is a given that she will carry on.

Hooray - you and I have agreed for once! *Quits SBT to go and enjoy the sunshine*

As things stand today it is. The lawyers have said they may, not that they will progress to a further appeal.

So, did you welcome the verdict that was reached? Justice served

Surely you listen to more than just people who pat you on the back for everything?

The best feedback is the negative, constructive feedback isn't it?
You obviously don't.
Funny I said you and a couple of others on here would have a go no matter how it was worded.
And yes it was the right decision.

Would there have been a statement if the council lost? There is nothing on the website from last year when SISU got the right to appeal? There was the one about the mess up with season tickets though.

Radio silence about that, and the positive move to make tickets printable at home etc, as well as the award for the family zone, as well as anything else half decent.

I think the first line of the statement sums up what would have happened if the council had lost...

Just a PR mouthpiece, the same as the telegraph and observer.

Playing devil's advocate here, there's a fair point made by Nick.

The Trust say's it welcomes the announcement, but how many in their membership thinks a correct judgement has been reached?

Word it properly then, even the local media have read it the same way... or they are spinning the trust against the club

In which case they are trying to get across exactly what my point was.

But it has nothing to do with the club remember.
They are 2 separate entities.

Think we're over-analyzing things a little here. I don't believe the SBT has an agenda at all. I'm not involved with the SBT, never have been, but just happen to sit next to Steve in B16 and a few others from the trust, and what is clear is that they are decent and passionate and care deeply about the football club - and that they also share the frustrations we all have about the stadium deal with Wasps and that they would like to see the stadium issue resolved.

To say they don't engage with the club is also unfair - to the extent that Anderson sat in the stands with them for a game in B16 earlier in the season.

I also think Nick makes some valid points. I think actually, unlike the polarised days of the Northampton exile, we are pretty much all on the same page now (give or take) and just want to move forward. Not sure we gain anything by arguing about specific words in a statement and what they did/did not mean.

It's not the hating of SISU people struggle to understand... It's the lack of hatred for CCC.

And the other parties in this mess? I'd love nothing more than the trust reeling off a list of people, then following it with, cunts.

I just don't get what people hope to achieve by hating CCC.

It's just wasted energy and the threads just rumble on with the same points/issues being raised but that ship has sailed.

Yes people are entitled to feel however they want, but the could have/should have beens aren't going to change the position we now find ourself in.

Time to build a stadium, get the move to Butts sorted or get round the table with Wasps or get any combination of these in place for short/mid/long term.
