Must be conflicting for him to have to represent twats like that, but at the same time would want to play on the World stage.

He wouldn't be representing the 'twats' (your word), he would be representing his mum and grandparents.

Exactly this. The bloke is literally half Polish whether he likes it or indeed other people like it, or not. If his family are proud and he is proud, who gives a fuck?

You only have to see how our players are treated on social media, especially during and post tournaments. Although I would caveat that a percentage are not even from the UK.
The racial abuse players get on social media is a sad representation of our society and we are supposed to be a progressive tolerant country. Bananas on the pitch in the 70's to X in 2026. Just a different tool to spread hate without having to attend matches.

A few years ago I played against a polish team down south. The abuse coming out of a few of their mouths was disgusting. Granted it wasn’t all of them.
But as soon one of our players said something (it was about eating carp as he is a keen fisherman) they kicked off! It was like ww3
Just to add he didn’t say it in the means it was taken, he was having a joke with one of there players and another over heard what he said

It's like here in the 70s and 80s. The majority of youngster don't know what they are saying or doing, it's the yampy minority 20+ year olds who like to have their gang and provoke the kids into joining in 'the banter', that's what kids think it is.
In the West End during the 70s a few 'bigger' kids would do monkey calls at black players and a few would throw bananas and the younger kids would giggle, and copy. Poland and other East European countries do the same, now as in the 70s they were communists and we didn't know what was happening.
However, I think it's safe to say it's the same. A few yampy individual like that guy on social media who is now in prison I believe with his brother, and Tom Robinson, who like their little gang to make them feel tough and important but their comments are hollow and meaningless.

This is also on Wiki, you had to scroll down ever so slightly...

Simms is eligible to play internationally for England, Poland,[26] and Jamaica.[27] On 6 November 2020, he was called up to the England U20 squad for a training camp.[28] The following week, he played for England U20s as a second-half substitute in an unofficial friendly match against Aston Villa.[29]

It’s more complex than being made out here. The Russian invasion of Ukraine has seen huge numbers of people taken in by central and Eastern Europe. Many are 18-30 males avoiding getting called up. Most are working and studies show they are bringing more money into the countries than they are costing, but rival politicians and the media have fuelled a lot of anti-immigration sentiment in regular people. And while it has not been about skin colour in the case if Ukrainians, it has become an enabler for people who were already racist to be more open about it, because they feel like they are in a bigger crowd of like minded people than they were before.

I used to be praised for being a foreigner speaking Czech with a ‘cute’ accent, now people are much colder towards me, assuming I’m Ukrainian. If I explain I’m English and lived here for 20 years, they visibly relax and become nicer to me. I feel like this has set Europe back by 30 years.

Lets not act whiter than white (lol) here too.

There is a poster who wrote "if a cow is born in a stable it doesn't make them a horse" on off topic and remains unbanned.

In fact some of the worst islamaphobia I've seen has been on the off topic board of this site.

Be interesting to hear the take of our Polish rep on SBT (skybluedom26) on what he feels about likelihood of Simms for Poland.....and what the fan reaction would be in stadium rather than online!

They previously had Olisadebe up front about 20 years ago.

I've only been to Prague once, wife's purse stolen from her bag on the way from the airport to the hotel all bank and cards etc gone... very long wait at the Police station to see the "specialist" pickpocket officer.
Last day of the holiday my debit card got cloned and when i got home my bank account had been emptied, ironically cash withdrawals in several Italian cities.... salary went in the bank account the following day and stolen immediately....again in Italian cities.
Wouldn't be in a hurry to go there again tbh.

Olisadebe was the first person of African birth or heritage to represent Poland internationally, in 2000. He scored 11 times in 25 games for Poland over 4 years.

He also received a barrage of abuse, but I don’t think the minority views
of a few imbeciles will deter Simms from making the decision. And it is certainly a minority.

Given how Simms is quite a hot and cold striker, having fanbase just wanting to harangue you purely because of your skin colour it might not be the best option for him.

Of course he could just start hitting the net immediately and win the fans over to some extent, but i feel he's the type of player that tends to take a few games to get going and I don't think he would be afforded that. It could be quite a harmful experience for him.

Plus the less he has to travel and play the fresher he is for us.

I'm not sure what you're trying to say here.

That there are places where you don't get racist lowlife bigots? Yes, I'd be surprised by that.

They've always existed, but they are currently emboldened to a degree that they have not been for a very long time, and Twitter (or X, really, because that's a different beast to Twitter even if it's the same platform) indulges that.

i think it’s fair to say both that Eastern European countries generally have a higher level of background social conservatism which includes anti lgbt and racism. And also that going on X: the racism app will find people far more racist than the average.

Poland is a fantastic country, it has it's problems as all countries do, but let's not write off a whole country because of a few cunts on Twitter. If someone came on here and selected a few posts, They could make us look like a right bunch of deranged simpletons.

He wouldn't be the first black person to represent Poland either. The poles took to Olisadebe well.

I've been to Prague a couple of times and never had any issues at all. Sounds like you were just unlucky (although understand why it would put you off going back). Issues like this in all big cities unfortunately.

Same here...been to Prague about 30 times (had some friends there), and never had any real trouble (but last visit was about 8 years ago).
In Wenceslas Square, you just have to be careful of the Romany girls at the bottom of the square - they will grab you and quite possibly your wallet...trick is, to not look like a tourist, and if they grab you, you really do have to be firm and push them away...they thrive on 'nice polite tourists'.
Czechs are lovely people and very hospitable.
If you're eating or drinking, just move away from Wenceslas square and the Old town square, where the prices are 'tourist prices'.
