So slightly strained translation:

“sakka” (soccer) is football in Japanese. “Moto” bean origin or foundation.

So in a way Sakamoto means origin of football.

Yes I got distracted looking for Japanese football chants.

Yes.

Still wouldn’t be surprised to see BNC come back, robins has always liked two choices each side.

Doubt he'd be allowed to come if not automatic first choice.

Burroughs not count as the other choice?

Think it's pretty clear so far that the plan is to get more aggressive wingbacks who get further forward this season.

Da Silva and Tats are both significantly more attacking, last night at Forest Green they were nearly always up in the attacking third.

I think we will see a defensive RB come in, like a Bidwell type player. So that we have a different option depending on opposition and situation, for each flank.

You mean like Giles? Or JWE? Or Panzo? I think this angle of over played TBH. Sure if he’s not getting any game time but as long as he’s getting a fair shot. And he would because Robins likes swapping out wingbacks during a game.

You could see on the game plan whiteboard the WBs start higher than Kelly and Sheaf. On the average position maps they’re consistently the furthest forward player aside from the AMs and STs. This is why I will die on the hill that they are midfielders.

Giles is being touted by wolves for £5m and there’s an indication boro will pay it

He got the most assists last year and really kicked on after three seasons at this level, I’m not surprised.

You mean Giles and Panzo signed as first choice? Giles left when he became not first choice. JWE his first loan spell - we don't know how Man City felt about his time in the team, but you telling me they'd be happy letting him have the same frequency of play next season?

But statistically the 4th best overall rated player in tbe championship with a total of 7.34 in 19 games is worth £2 million?

Over how many games? He had a great six months, the odd game aside. You’re all over the place on this as always.

What’s your valuation of McNally and would you pay it?

I agree, but take it a step further.

I don't think you can define teams in a single formation anymore, most are playing 2 or 3 depending on attacking and defending etc.

Man City are the most high profile example of this, where they are now playing 4 centre backs in defence and pushing one into midfield in attack.

Football is so fluid nowadays, its naive to try and define a snapshot of how they are setting up.

Agree. But I think the boxes fans put players on affects how they’re judged. You see far more complaints out wing backs can’t defend than IMO the far bigger crime which has been their lack of attacking impact.

Oddly over the number of games he’s played clearly

As for being all over the place you’ve been asked for alternatives and have come up with none

To us he’s clearly worth £3 million isn’t he

In todays market McNallly is easily worth between 3-4 million. He’s young, he’s English (always go for premium prices) and he’s performed well at this level

Wasn't long ago you were saying he's not very good and we should look elsewhere.

Not going to ruin another thread though.

Tatsu looks good in those clips, will be interesting to see how he copes defensively if he does play RWB. And if he does, it's clear Robins has decided we need more attacking output from wing back.

Yeah, I like that he can go inside or out and cross with either foot. It's like having a proper old-school winger for the first time in years (only he can also defend).

Possibly someone special here, certainly going to surprise a few, love when he gets knocked down he bounces up in a second. Still think we need another forward, preferably with a bit of pace and good first touch to go with him.

According to Robbings, Sakamoto IS a wing back (in the same way that Josh Eccles is a wing back)

“With Tatsu and Josh it gives us some different options,” said Robins, “but Tatsu is really versatile as well so it will be interesting to see where he fits in because I think I can play him in lots of different positions.”
