Rare clubs het punished for one fan I think. Normally takes a failure like stopping a pitch invasion or wide scale chanting. Obviously something should be done if in this case the one fan is identified and not punished as it sets a poor standard for others.

Ah ok.
Isn’t there evidence, although not possible to identify, that it was more than one fan?
I mean I’ve seen that vid where people are shouting stuff?

Maybe I’m missing the point but isn’t the reason for fining clubs for say, a pitch invasion, to send a message to fans that ‘do this and your club will suffer’?

I’m not saying that I agree with fining clubs for pitch invasions. But doesn’t it beg the question, what do we consider more important, people running on the pitch or people being racist?

There was an incident of racist abuse at the Udiniese v AC Milan game last weekend. Udiniese have to play one game behind closed doors.

We as SWFC fans are lucky Palmer didn't simply walk off the pitch, he was well within his rights to do so in my opinion, theres no place for it.
All I can do is apologise to the bloke and hope he does play in the cup game.
It was obvious to those around me on the Kop that something insidious had happened, players don't react like that to nothing, sure players will wind oppo fans up, why not?, fans are allowed to give them stick when they sky a shot or skew a cross, you get some back when they score, take it on the chin, its football.
Its shaming any Owls fan descends to the level of a bloody neanderthal and sends us hurtling back to the 70's and all over the news for the wrong reasons ...again.
anyhow..Well played, thoroughly deserved the win and great support, and once again apologies aren't enough but Sorry Mr Palmer, I hope the idiot is banned for life, I can take the banter when we lose, i'm used to it, but that level of behaviour is beyond the pale...good luck for the rest of the season cov

I’m sure just like our fan base most Wednesday supporters are decent. As we have the unique chance to play the same team right away It would be great to see some support towards Kasey from your fans.
I’m 100% sure if this was the other way round we would call the bastard (s) out and have st least a banner or chant to show suppprt.

I’ve read Palmer is considering whether to play or not, I hope he chooses to play if selected for many reasons the main one not allowing a dickhead to affect me.
I don’t think the Wednesday lot will even boo him wouldn’t be a good image for their club, unfortunately the top boss of FIFA has got hold of this and I reckon could make an example of this incident but will wait until investigations are complete to act, booing Palmer so soon after last weeks incident would be picked up by the media and not just in this country so booing not adviseble imo.

I hope he plays, otherwise I feel that the racist bigot will have won. That said, it is clearly Kasey's decision and I will quite understand and respect his choice if he doesn't fancy it. I feel very sorry for him. No-one should ever have to put up with this.

I hope that both teams will take the knee before the match and I think they will. Sometimes it has seemed as if it was starting to become a token gesture but in view of last Saturday this will have real meaning.

I am flabbergasted I’m realising that the efl haven’t said anything
There was another monkey gesture in a league two game wasn’t there?
Maybe Italy has a bigger problem so they’ve jumped on it immediately
I’m not convinced punishing a club for the actions of a minority or its supporters is the way to go but ffs nothing!!!

And it’s a sizeable minority of Wednesday fans saying he asked for it even if they’re not going the whole he deserved it. Both are insidious

If the consequence for racist abuse was for home fans to be barred for a certain number of games it would focus a lot of minds.

I think SWFC are being quiet , saying nothing and hoping it goes away . They already have reputation for being racist and must feel very embarrassed about the whole situation. But their fans need to address this and report to the police straight away what they hear , point them out KICK them out and charge them . You have to feel for the SW fans who just want to watch a game of football and cheer their team on like we all do . A couple of dick heads makes not a fan base .

Clubs can't be responsible for which idiots support them and we have plenty of our own.

If we missed promotion because of some knob being a knob I'm sure opinions would change. The individuals need pointing out and we all have responsibility for that, get them fined, banned and shamed. If you think it's imaginary that once clubs are sanctioned other supporters wouldn't try to get them bans or point deducts then I consider that naive at best. They're also not mutually exclusive, at no point did I suggest not taking action against the actual problems but go after the individual not the club. You can consider both.

For repeat actions yes, I'd be amazed reading the online if some don't boo him and tbf we and he should be prepared for that. Many were incensed at him winding them up before the idiot acted and that was ok for him and them, I loved him winding them but know the line. I hope he does it again and the best way by scoring. Even do the Jude in front of them again.

See what you are saying Brighton but I say carry on playing and leave swfc to the consequences, top bloke at FIFA has put his oar in and that puts the club in the firing line.
I also expect an army of old bill at the game so best behaviour from our lot important. They could be arrest happy.

Even though I said in the other thread they've really showed themselves up, I don't think trying to guess about things that may or may not/probably won't happen tonight is doing anyone any favours.

The team, Kasey and our club need to think scenarios though
Pretty sure if they had th scenario at the end again sheaf would lead his team off

Not really, they'll have had a discussion about what to do in a repeat situation and then they'll be concentrating on the game. There's absolutely no way they are over thinking it like its being over thought on here.

Fair enough agree to disagree
Think robins was quite thoughtful and clearly the team have discussed their approach
Also pretty sure it’s affected Kasey to put what he has on Twitter

I don't think you can take the team off if he is booed, despite the situation caused from last week, there will be fans who just boo for the sake of it, if there are signs of racist abuse, then yes, without a doubt but also let the ref make that call where possible having pointed it out to them first to see if can be dealt with like it should have been done last week.

Taken from their forum.

"if that slimeball didn't do what he did I would hope that Palmer would be facing a distribute charge"

I'm not sure what a distribute charge is but some of these Sheffield Wednesday fans are very precious. 'Awww did a player wind you up??'

It's Palmer's choice and whatever he chooses will be the correct decision but I hope he plays. Show that tiny minority of f*ckwits that they mean nothing.

Exactly, we could walk off if he's booed but I don't think it will hold up, rightly of wrongly. Again as I pointed out in the other thread, they could just claim its because they are incredibly thin skinned about being wound up. After all if they were booing him because they are all racist they'd just have to say why aren't we booing the other black players then. Its an easy defence.
And now I'm over thinking it like everyone else in this thread.

This is the mentality that needs to change - clubs can and do take responsibility for which idiots attend their games (including ours), and punishing teams and their fans for the actions of tiny minorities has often played a big part in that.

If the mentality is going to be that we have to water down our punishments because a club missing out on promotion would be much worse than someone racially abusing a player in the stands, then of course nothing will change.

I mean just cos you’re racist doesn’t mean you have to shout abuse at every black person. But i agree a boo during a game for whatever reason is part and parcel and while id understand us walking off I don’t think the FA would back us.

Its more about for me what can the club do? It’s like violence at games. One guy punches another do we punish the club?

For me it’s a health and safety issue for the club, did they do everything reasonable to prevent it and did they act appropriately once they were aware of it. In Sheff Wednesdays case I’d argue the haven’t done the former as it’s clearly been an issue and the stewards didn’t seem to kick the guy out. But if it hasn’t and they did I’d feel less comfortable punishing what could be an anti racists club.

Fans back their clubs normally no matter what.
What that fan has said is nonsense. Looking at fans ?? pathetic reason to justify what happened.

I got the impression the reason they didn't go off on Saturday was that the match was virtually over and it seemed sensible in the circumstances to just get that minute or so over. I feel the referee and managers acted responsibly. If it had happened earlier in the match I think they would have come off.

Not sure we need to overthink this tonight. There's an established process and we should follow that. Any racism directed to any player and we immediately appeal to the referee. I would be very surprised if they didn't then take the players off. If they fail to do their job properly we address that then but I think we have to assume the ref will do the right thing.

The EFL's silence is deeply disappointing and shameful.
